MGS4 29 hours long

I think this speaks ownage. Paul Fitzpatrick, the reviewer in Official Playstation magazine said it took him a little over 29 hours, about 1/3 cutscenes, meanning 20 hours of gameplay. That's using the Blu Ray at it's finest. Here is a question and answer session also about his review, pretty spoiler free :D

Not too suprising, it took me 24 hours to beat MGS2 the first time though, but once I knew what to do I was able to beat in in 10 hours on my next playthrough.

Nice find. every lemming that said this was an 8 hours game has been owned, hard. MGS4 is going to pwn everythingf50p90

this game and Bluray are the reasons I purchased a PS3

MGS3 first, than MGS1 than MGS2. That's the timeline.

That's how I'm playing it right now. I'm half way trough MGS1 now. Just an awesome game. Getting ready for MGS4 :D

Metal Gear cutscenes = win.

While that's the timeline, there's so many 'in-jokes' for lack of a better word in MGS3 you can't pick up if you didn't play the other two first.

Except that CoD4 and Gears did a pretty good job of making its best moments interactive. e.g. the helicopter crash in the ghillie mission or the berzerker crashing through the wall in Gears. Scripted but atleast they're interactive to some degree. Can't really see the point of maing such overly long cutscenes in a median that's supposed to be interactive. Or atleast make some attempt to keep players in control and involved.

I'm also not a huge fan of MGS cutscenes. Tend to just be over endulgent and tedious. Alot like the scenes in Devil May Cry. It's like the sort of rubbish CG designers come up with for their first project. Absolutley zero understanding of what actually makes a good action scene. It has nothing to do with how many camera cuts you can make in under a minute. Like a guitar player who just plays solos constantly and has no idea how to actually piece a together and actual song or even just something approaching a melody.

Sometimes you just wanna sit back and ENJOY the action rather then being in it. Cutscenes are little rewards for trudging through the game. When they are done right of course.

So Mass Effect doesn't have a story then? I'm not a "Lem" by the way. I own a 360 (Currently RROD) and a PS3. I just happen to able to be critical of games whatever platform they're on. Maybe that's a concept you can't quite grasp when you live in a world of black and whites where anyone critical of a game or system has to be a fanboy of some sort.

Yeah like I said though I'm just not a big fan of the MGS style cutscenes. To me it's more like punishment than a reward. I just want to get back to playing the game rather than having to watch another 40 minutes of self congratulatory amateur cinematography.

I don't mind cut scenes as long has it helps the story. You get use to them if you play a lot of JRPGs.

I really don't see a point on telling others that you own both systems. That doesn't prove that your "Not a Lem". I have both system too. Mass Effects story has nothing on the Metal Gear Solid Series. Ask any people who played both games. MGS's story is much more appealing than Mass Flop.

Why, that's lovely. Besides as far as I've read then the game offers much replay-value, so the actual game-time is longer. And to the cut-scene haters... Then live with it, cut-scenes and story is a great part of the series, and if you actually get yourself involved with the story, then it's interesting to watch. This game is a fusion between a game and a movie at some level.

Probably means the game will be some 18-20 hours long for most people.. (MGS games has always been quick if you dont look around much)

For me it will still be some 30 hours though xD Nice game.
