Everyone is already calling NG2 a flop and not AAA here. Do people forget that EGM already gave NG2 game of the month not MGS4, so there may be some places ( Eurogame and 1up) that don't like NG2, but from what I can see it looks ike a great game and possibly better than MGS4. Mgs4 might be better just don't count out NG2 yet.

EGM did NOT review MGS4 yet, whoever told you that was lying.

Different games. I expect MGS4 to be more engrossing but NG2 to be an adrenaline rush. I can't wait for both.

The editor of 1up.com said it was fake (I think he's the editor), and that he and two other people would be reviewing the game in the issue after it due to certain reasons.

MGS4 will probably outscore Ninja Gaiden 2 here.

What? that was proven false.

Actually 1up which is EGM btw, gave it a terrible score.

so far it is not reaching it's acclaimed status set by it's predecessor .

Did any non fanboys really think NG II was going to be a better game then MGS4? NG II basically flew under the radar for the past year.

Better? No. Different? Yes. I can really see myself slowly enjoying the epicness that is MGS4. I also can see myself (esp. after a bad day) flipping on NG2 and slicing people left and right. If I had to chose one, I would go with MGS4. Thank goodness though I don't have to choose.

In a mass appeal sense, yes. For people who like action games over cutscene games, no.

I agree with that. As an owner of both consoles, I've been waiting for MGS4 since Nov 06, NG II on the other hand basically was announced out of nowhere, and will be released barely 6 months later. Since the first vid of NG II I've had luke warm expectations, it just didn't feel like it was getting the coverage I would have expected from what I think some figured would be this huge summer must-own blockbuster.

It has mass appeal because Ninjas, Robots, Pirates, Zombies and Aliens, all sell well.

Did anyone really believe that NGII would end up being one of this gen's - or even this years - biggest titles? Other than hopeful Lemmings, that is. It's the sequel to an overblown cult-classic. Great game, definitely, but sales wise, the original wasn't a blockbuster by any stretch. It won't touch the impact on the public several other games this year have.

The MGS story is pubescent garbage written to pull on the heartstrings of hormonally imbalanced teenagers. Kojima's games are the video game equivalent of The Titanic.

I got my copy of EGM today, here's the deal, as I subscribe and get them up to a week before it reaches stands, neither NG2 or MGS4 were reviewed, MGS4 had an article written about it after the reviews page, while NG2 was in the reviews wrap up, it was written the camera was annoying in preview versions, though probably better in the final version, though the brutal action compensated for it, both will be reviewd in the August issue, which hits stands July 1st.

No. No it's not.

There are so many hidden messages and metaphors in the MGS story and in the characters it's not even remotely close to Titanic. You just suck at intellectual thinking and understanding story-lines obviously.

My point exactly. Writing trash directed at the young and impressionable sells, and is touted by countless of them as the best thing ever... Until the grow up a bit. Titanic is the perfection of the art of movies like Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Transformers... And Kojima is the best at writing such convoluted trash to dig into teenaged wallets.

Well, I enjoy the narrative of MGS, though Kojima essentially wins, he makes money, and he does it well, which is the overall point of it all. Fan service may be in there, but Kojima and Konami certainly want to hit the jackpot.

Yes. yes it is.

Ask any Titanic fan about it and they'll drop a line not far from what you're feeding me, about how deep and powerful it is, how masterful the writing is, etc. And just like you, they believe it. Go figure, each one of these titanic (har har) intellects fully believes that they are just that much smarter than all of the idiots who just lack the intellect to appreciate the profound depths of their idol's work. They fail to consider that, hey, maybe these people do get it, but they just know something I don't.

Eh, I didn't compare Kojima to The Titanic as an insult to his ability to create a popular product.

As for you liking it... Everyone has their "stupid" pleasures. From The Three Stooges to that idiotic, cheesy song that you don't want to admit to your friends that you do really like when they all start saying it sucks. In the case of MGS fans, they just somehow got it into their heads that this mass-market hack is the next Dostoyevsky or something. He makes pop-drama, more in line with soap operas and the WWE than great works of narrative. Doesn't mean it's not popular, doesn't mean it's very well suited to what it does - but the type of profound narrative masterpiece we're told it is by its droves of fanboys? Puhlease!

What the hell is with you and Titanic? Titanic wasn't that great at all. The plot sucked, the writing was generic, the characters bland and uninspiring...i could go on and on. It was a boring love story that grossed a lot of money due to teenage girls and their love for Leonardo Dicrapio.

You are comparing two different types of stories.

There is so so much more depth to the MGS storyline than Titanic. I just have no clue what compelled you to compare the two.

I understood you did not use the analogy as an insult, though it is the ultimate point. Tastes differ, which is the bttom line, many think Kojima is brilliant, and the MGS storyline is resplendent, I would much rather call MGS a Dan Brown novel than Dostoyevsky, more shock value than depth, though I believe the MGS storyline is substantial enough.

Yes, really. I'm guessing you're part of the target audience?

Actually I was going to debate that warped statement you made but decided you weren't worth it pretty much. Metal Gear Solid's story like probably goes over your head and makes your brain hurt.

Yes yes yes, I get it. I'm so dense I couldn't possibly understand the depths of metaphor and profound implications of the MGS IV story. I'm currently reading and enjoying The Man Without Qualities, but MGS eludes me. What an unexpected exit for a Titanic intellect like yourself.

Aye, and my point is that the people who think he is brilliant will probably fit into a certain age category, which of course is Kojima's target audience. Outside of that target audience. among people with a bit more experience in the storyteller's art, a large portion of the viewers will realize that the story is largely melodramatic, cliched, and convoluted. Not necessarily unenjoyable, but brilliant? A masterpiece? So many of the things it is so frequently touted around here? Not even close.

Kojima does have some notable talents. Cinematic presentation - he is among the best in gaming. He must be given some credit for his early forays into the stealth genre as well - though, I feel he's been handily surpassed there in the sense of substance over flash. But a great writer? Again, not even close.

Point taken. I can understand the melodramtics and the convulted, as the MGS series is difficult to grasp for the uninitiated.
