MGS4 = Crapnum Opus Delux

Is it just me or is MGS4 looking not that impressive graphically. I know the inevitable graphics are not everything response but I just expected more from our friendly neighborhood "super computer" especially when this is the most hyped title from the "year of the PS3." Something tells me GOTY is gonna be GTA4 and MGS4 will be overshadowed by many many better games like Fable2, NG2, Gears 2.....heck even Resistance 2.

after playing the muliplayer beta, ill have to agree, the only thing that can make this game worth playing is the storyKirlok

the controls don't work well for the multi player, but the multi player is not like the single player...

story smory.. story is not important.

There were no enemies in the immediate area, so the Haven Troops can do whatever the heck they want to do. So they hold their guns in the air for a second, oh my god, that's so ridiculously crazy!

I agree with you 100%!!!! i have bashed mgs4 in the forums before, not graphically, but because of the rediculous story. MGS takes itself and its story SSOOO seriously, but then adds in things like girls that cannot be hit by bullets, vampires in tights, and guards with 10ft vision cones. Its rediculous.HungryLikeAMug

It's a sci-fi fantasy. It melds fantastical elements with plausible technology.

GeoW plot made sense and didn't change drastically as the MGS series does time and time again. In fact, GeoW story was brilliantly written and flowed far better then most movies these days.

Nah historically ive been manticore. Went through a long PC phase with my Diablo 2/CS addictions. Last gen I owned all three. Right now I have 360 and am considering Wii. PS3 is lackluster for the time being.

MGS's plot make sense as well they are just deeper and more involved then the typical Aliens trying to take over the world. A plot changing drastically does not equal convoluted either, its called a plot twist. Your arguement is dumb because at the end of the day people play MGS games for its SINGLE PLAYER STORY MODE and people play GEOW for its MULTIPLAYER. Dont defend GEOW story mode.

MGS1 was the only good game in the series. MGS2 sold well because it was an early title for a popular system and it was also riding on the success of the previous game. People realized 2 was not that good and responded by buying half as many copies of 3 with a much larger install base.

MGS's plot make sense as well they are just deeper and more involved then the typical Aliens trying to take over the world. A plot changing drastically does not equal convoluted either, its called a plot twist. Your arguement is dumb because at the end of the day people play MGS games for its SINGLE PLAYER STORY MODE and people play GEOW for its MULTIPLAYER. Dont defend GEOW story mode.

When you have so many plot twists that the player is actually anticpating a plot twist you have a problem. When the details become laughably overwrought and suspension of disbelief is completely impossible....well....you have a game made by Crapjima.

Looks like they are posing for hero shots not fighting. What a freaking lame game.

Let me say, that I have NEVER, not once, hyped MGS4 for it's graphics. So I can genuinely say I don't care about that much.

Gameplay:

PREFERENCE. I don't like GeOW much. Sorry. It's not that it's "bad." It's just... mindless? MGS seriesalways requires more thinking than shooting. One thing I really like about MGS4 is the cinematics.

There were no enemies in the immediate area, so the Haven Troops can do whatever the heck they want to do. So they hold their guns in the air for a second, oh my god, that's so ridiculously crazy!

Why are we arguing about realism, both GEOW and MGS are not realistic, they are sci fi or fantasy based games. MGS just has a more realistic base and in most cases explains things with science, however typical of the Japanese culture there is mysticism put in there as well.

Nah historically ive been manticore. Went through a long PC phase with my Diablo 2/CS addictions. Last gen I owned all three. Right now I have 360 and am considering Wii. PS3 is lackluster for the time being.

Depends what you want for the wii, the only real good games are Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda: TP, Metriod Prime 3, SSBB and No More Heroes.

Outside those the other games suck (maybe boomblox will be good though).

(Kinda have to agree with the PS3 being lackluster right now though, its pitiful not having a steady flow of games).

I didn't say it was realistic, I said it didn't matter what they did, because there were no consequences(real or imagined), for drawing their guns in a relatively dramatic way. They are super soldiers(not USMC) with powered exoskeletons, after all, capable of jumping great distances at great speed, so they shouldn't worry about landing on an empty rooftop without their guns at the ready in a second.

maybe its just the hypocrisy of system wars, but the same people who dog on stories from other games, like halo or gears, will swear by the laughable stories in the MGS games. I've played them all, and they all start off interesting and realistic, and then just turn, frankly, stupid. Like in mgs2 for example, russian mercenaries taking over the tanker to take control of a badass metal gear with nuclear capability to ensure Russian world dominance again...seriously awesome. Snake sneaking in and stopping it....awesome again. but...oh wait...ocelot is...half liquid snake? ok i'll shake that one off.

flash forward, seals trying to stop the terrorist takeover of that huge plant in the ocean, raiden is the new operative and he tries to stop it too. Then we have a combination of people running around under boxes, flying vampires in tights, a girl who bends bullets, a fatass bomb expert on rollerblades (my favorite), and then raiden single handedly takes out like 10 metal gears, (which are like the most powerful things in the world).

I wouldnt think the story is so stupid if it didnt constantly try to be serious and real and then add in absolutely ridiculous crap. Maybe the game would work better if the entire game was over the top, because then it could possible work. I mainly think its just a culture thing and the japanese audience can appreciate certain story elements that most westerners may find a little ridiculous.

Well that is your opinion, again MGS has a huge fan following and its due to its gameplay and its story. Its not depending on multiplayer to save it. I would rather anticipate a twist and still be surprised at the result then know the entire premise of the game in the first 5 minutes of player.

after playing the muliplayer beta, ill have to agree, the only thing that can make this game worth playing is the storyKirlok

you're complaining about textures, as if games are only made of textures, and not polygons, particle effects, AI, or a framerate.

you made one insignificant observation about soldiers doing something you didn't like, even though the circumstances didn't dictate that they need to act differently.

Im sorry no combat situation would merit 5 soldiers bent down in a spiderman pose and then all of them drawing their weapons in the air behind their backs while still in a Spider-Man pose. Can you tell me what circumstance would lead a real soldier to do anything remotely like this? I just laughed when i watched it. The thing that makes it funnier is that the game is trying to so hard to be serious. Crapjima only made one good game and that was MGS1.

um sorry the main compaint against Gears 1 was lack of story. so how can it also be convoluted. maybe you need to look the word up?

You have a half life avitar, its kind of hard to snub your nose at MGS plot when you seem to appreciate Half life. Most action games take them selves seriously, I can appreciate that and MGS is a more tone down Sci fi epic which I appreciate too. ITs all in preference.
