Ok, before any cows start flaming me, I am talking about the texture detail and polygon counts. Sony is so quick to tout blu-ray this and blu-ray that, then why are MGS4's cutscenes using the in-game engine? If Blu-ray is this huge media format, I would think Kojima would be rendering everything at ultra-high 1080p pre-rendered cutscenes.

The cutscenes are AAA Hollywood quality until you notice how bad the textures & poly counts are compared to pre-rendered... Its a fact that doing the cutscenes in a 3D package like Maya is a lot easier that doing it in-engine. Unless they are pulling off Gears of War quality cutscenes (which they are most certainly not), why not take advantage of all that Blu-Ray real estate and go guns blazing with ultra detailed cutscenes?

Well first of all, Kojima has never used CGI in a MGS game, and doesn't want to.

Second, the game looks gorgeous. If you want to hump a wall while your playing the game you may notice some pixels, but there really isn't anything to cry about.

Here is a cutscene you probably haven't seen yet, now rethink what you said and now tell me what you think, by the way MGS4 is in 1080p, the cutscenes are better than Gears, Heavenly Sword also.

I think its nice at first glance, then it looks flat and low-res when you really look at it. And all of your comments are wrong. All of them.

You've obviously never played a MGS game, if you did, you'd know Kojima always has his cutscenes using the real time engine.

I don't see that at all, not one bit, have you seen the MGS4 TGS trailer? Also check out a cutscene of Heavenly Sword http://www.gametrailers.com/player/23164.html

Not trying to look like a fanboy because Gears is honestly one of the most intense and fun experiences i have had in a while but the cutscenes just aren't better in Gears than in MGS4 or Heavenly, not only that but Gears some serious framerate problems when the cutscenes run.

Metal Gear Solid is a letdown period. I tried muliple times to play it. Ive played MGS2, i bought MGS3 Subsistence. Its just horrible so boring, it seems like everything just drags on forever in those games. Even the cutscenes. Just my opinion.

You're definitely right about Kojima. He said it himself. He chooses to make his cutscenes with the in-game engine.

MGS has always been done this way, why change it now?

This game looks awesome, and the cutscenes being in-game gives a more immersive experience.

kojima has used up all 50GB....nuff said...this game is more that grpahics... i think if he compressed the game some more he could fix up some stuff, my thoughts at least...mebe he should make a 2 disc blu-ray game heh

AskForDetails

What the hell? What on earth is going to fill up 50GB? If the game doesn't use CGI cut scenes, there is no way it could use 50GB. If they can fit Mass Effect on a DVD, I don't see how MGS4 would take up 50GB.. Unless its.. a 1000 hour game or something.

Did you just make that number up?

Kojima has actually stated that Blu-Ray was originally to small for MGS4.

That's right, even back on the PSX the cut scenes were always real time, and that gave it some really cool effect. While TTS for NGC had better graphics and all, it lost that part it originally had.

Do you honestly feel that the ability to pause a cutscene in the middle (so you can actually see this) and say 'look, that chair has a low poly count!' negatively affects the gameplay experience? If you say yes, then you are crazy.

For sure, because it is a known fact that I only sit on high poly count chairs, the low count one make my butt hurt.

Developers shouldn't use pre-rendered cutscenes anymore. They usually break the flow of the game, plus give wrong picture of the actual product when used on advertisement. It's a lot more admirable when the developer can create good cinematics with the actual game engine rather than using pre-rendered animation.

HS does look amazing, but at what cost? The game was suppose to be released earlier this year and it got delayed until now. And what was the final product? A 6 hour game with mostly arena style battles and Dumb AI. Don't fall into the trap the lemmings did last gen.. ie just bragging about the graphics..

What the heck brought HS into this ? :S

6 HOURS GAMEPLAY ?!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!! i dont know about you dude, but i play games slow and steady, i make sure i enjoy every single bit of them. My last Final fantasy took me over 100 hours :D ( just an example ), then replayed it.

Mr Epyx here is telling us that he thinks msg4 graphics arent that good. Im just trying to say " dont whine if most Xbox360 games look worse.. seriously "

And about HS, THAT GAME IS AMAZING!! YOU ON CRACK ?

I don't know why people are complaining. The MGS trailers are all kinds of Awesome.

You'd have to be a really testy dweeb if you actually complain about MGS4 visuals -- which are superb BTW.

You must have some really high standarads, everything that was shown crushes most if not all titles coming out for release. The texture are really impressive, better than Gears and The Darkness everything look clean and sharp especially the character models. With more than 5 months till the game is complete i think we'll see some improvements but nothing major, this game already looks amazing.

It's seriously ridiculous how awesome MGS4 looks.

I don't care what the PS3 costs. I will be playing MGS4 right when it's released.

You must have some really high standarads, everything that was shown crushes most if not all titles coming out for release. The texture are really impressive, better than Gears and The Darkness everything look clean and sharp especially the character models. With more than 5 months till the game is complete i think we'll see some improvements but nothing major, this game already looks amazing.Adrian_Cloud

Sure, no problem, just go order some Chinese take out and ask then to load it up it. Though I have to tell you, MSG is bad for your health.

Metal Gear Solid is a letdown period. I tried multiple times to play it. Ive played MGS2, i bought MGS3 Subsistence. Its just horrible so boring, it seems like everything just drags on forever in those games. Even the cut-scenes. Just my opinion. RyanShazam

Lems got noting to do with it. MGS4 does not look like a great game. The gameplay videos I saw for MGS4 look like total crap.

Kojima should of stuck with releasing those stupid cutscenes that didn't make any sense.
