MGS4 graphics = not that great

Personaly, I think that MGS4 is one of the best looking console games to date, along with Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and Gears Of War.

And please don't call me a fanboy for saying that, I have owned all three next gen consoles and got rid of the 360 because of the problems I had with it.

Graphics wise I think MGS4 looks better then gears. Gears 2 though looks better then MGS4. And we already know MGS4 is a better all around game then gears period. Gears 2 may be better gameplay wise and more fun but it better be strong in every area this time if it wants to reclaim GOTY this time around beause we already know MGS4 is.

I find Gears of War better in gameplay and graphics, MGS2 is still my favourite of the series, but MGS4 is good too

all you people who are saying it does not have the best graphics out have either never played it, are in serious denial or dont own a hdtv. Or the broken multiplayer segment?

I don't get how Bioshock has been forgotten so easily. That game looks incredible and still does.

Well I never even thought or would have thought that mgs4 graphics were going to be great prior to playing it after seeing screen shots of the game. And I think most would say this aswell. But it is a true testiment of what kind of graphics it does have when thread upon threads try to counter it or boast about them. Or even countless reviews praising the graphics in mgs4.

People need to move on cause mgs4 is a complete package, that is truly epic with a great story, great graphics, great gameplay, great replay value, great atmosphere, great characters, great cutscenes, great action and action scenes. But I guess some need to talk about textures to try to bring it down and such. Have at it, if that truly makes you feel better :)

This seems to be the case with most Japanese developed games. DMC4, NGII, and others seem to prefer that more "anime" smoothness as opposed to western games which want to have the characters and environments look more realistic. Could be a design choice, because clearly the environments in MGS4 are so rich and detailed this texture debate doesn't ring true when your playing the game. Not to mention Snakes camo suit picks up every possible part of the environment so perfectly I don't see how that doesn't put this texture crap to bed.

i totally agree with your statements, but you must agree, knowing kojima has stated many times that he stressed he dev team to play american games and learn from them as much as possible instead of just japanese ones, and you can tell that the final mgs4 product definitely delivers far beyond anything else i've seen come out of japan. and dude the textures arent bad at all, i found them to be much better than cod4's textures. expecially the ground (have you seen the mud surface on slaughter house on mgo, that looks amazing)

MGS4 level design was much better than Gears of War. I am looking forward to more variety and more light in Gears of War 2.

Gears > MGS4, graphics, imo.

Graphics wise I think MGS4 looks better then gears. Gears 2 though looks better then MGS4. And we already know MGS4 is a better all around game then gears period. Gears 2 may be better gameplay wise and more fun but it better be strong in every area this time if it wants to reclaim GOTY this time around beause we already know MGS4 is.
