Im goin to have to agree perfect 10? No. It may be a good game in its own right but not easily picked up by newcomers, which means it doesnt deserve a perfect score. But does anyone notice that highly anticipated games get perfect scores now and days?Airacomet
So if a game isn't easily picked up by newcomers its not perfect? Its called a learning curve. I guess since most people are too dumb to appreciate Citizen Kane that isn't a masterpiece either.
The game is supposedly perfect right? Then there shouldnt be a huge problem for newcomers stepping into the fray. I played this game expecting something world changing; but I was confused, and most importantly bored.1. 10 is not perfect. 10 means the game delivers on what it promised and then some. Its a game that goes that extra mile to outdo every other game in its genre. A ten is a game that raises the bar for the industry.
2. You expected something world changing. That is why you fail. You want your world changed...get married..have a baby..move to another country. Don't play a video game expecting your life to change.
3. Sorry you were confused and bored. Here is a small red ball, perhaps you'd like to bounce it.
I don't believe it's overrated, but it certainly is overappreciated. The game is nothing after you finish it, but it's one hell of a ride on your first time through.BioShockOwnz
MGO says otherwise + I will definatly be repeating this game again after i have had a good shot at MG1,2,and 3 :)

Their are so many emblems to achieve. Not to mention you get to bring all your new toys to the beginning of the game making it more fun to mess with the guards. Their are so many ways to play the game it rewards multiple play throughs.

10/10 is perfect ex: 100% on your math test? = perfect, as in no errors. I played this game expecting a "10" rated game, its not. Maybe among the MGS fanbase but that's about it.
I don't believe it's overrated, but it certainly is overappreciated. It all leads to the same story. I played every single way the first time through, thus making a second playthrough unnecessary. Emblems =/= replay value. It's worthless after playing through once.

And the game pretty much is perfect, gameplay wise. So yes its got perfect gameplay. A guy with the Wii shouldn't have such high standards. I mean you BOUGHT a Wii..you obviously don't expect much from games.
And excuse me for being an MGS fan. But the cutscenes are fantastic. I guess you can punish a game for having too much story. But thats just it. Its MGS 4 you should have been expected cutscenes being this long.
jg4xchamp
I hate this line of reasoning.
It's an MGS game, so of course I expect plenty of cutscenes. But MGS4 easily has more cutscenes than any other MGS game.
MGS2 had a lot of cutscenes, but even at its worst, at the very end of the game, the final sequence was probably about 20 minutes long. MGS3 did not have as many cutscenes as MGS2 either, after the incredibly dense beginning is over.
MGS4 regularly has cutscene sequences that don't just surpass, but exceed MGS2's longest cutscenes, especially if you include the 'interactive' Mission Briefings in your analysis. The end of each Act, going into the beginning of the next, is usually an extremely long cutscene. Many Acts have enormous expositionary cutscenes in the middle. And Act 5 starts with a mission briefing that isn't even close to interactive, followed by a huge cutscene. It's also filled with long cutscenes, and leads into the final cutscene, which clocks in at seventy minutes. Even as someone who has played MGS games, I had no reason to expect that kind of density of cutscenes in a 20 hour experience.
A lot of the cutscenes are also incredibly dry and boring, and many convey information that isn't particularly pertinent. Not knowing what I would hear in a cutscene, I couldn't just skip it (I might miss important story information, and I do have some interest in the Metal Gear Solid continuity), but they were often extremely boring.
Going back through the game skipping the cutscenes, it's a much smoother experience.

Really? You played your first time through finding every easter egg? Did ya have the solar gun on your first play through? What about the item you get when you beat screaming Mantis. Worthless? Its actually more rewarding. Do you not rewatch movies even though you know how it will end? Plus you play on a different difficulty and you have to adjust to smarter A.I.

I'm sure you experimented with a number of different approaches to the game, depending on your situation. But you didn't play every single situation every single way the first time through.
I'm definitely enjoying my no-alert no-kill no-continue run, even though I already beat the game, because I'm forced to approach situations that I had gone through a certain way in a different manner.
It's not for everyone, but I always enjoy playing through MGS games again, because there are a lot of different ways to solve problems.

i have played the game and i can tell you this is the most borring stealth (wannabe action game) i have ever played, the gameplay is OK but the cutscenes oh man what a borring snoozfest scenes in any game ever and some took must than 30 minutes and then when you start playing 1 minute later other large and borring cutrscene I mean WTF?
the framerate in the game is just hilarious, in some parts in the game the framerate gets a 10 fps (mostly in explosive parts and a lot of stuf going on)
most overrated game evar.
I wonder how much SONY paid, gamespot and IGN.

Oh, sorry I'm not a fan of the series because I don't absolutely love everything Kojima does.
I recognize everything they are talking about. In some cases, it angers me how some characters are recast in ways that don't fit with their portrayal in earlier Metal Gear games. In others, I'm bored, because I really don't need to be bothered to be told exactly how every facet of the SOP system and the 'war economy' works.
I'm perfectly capable of caring about a game if the story is told well enough to reach me. There were only a few situations in Metal Gear Solid 4 where that occurred. Those were:
The microwave hallway 'button-mashing' scene, and the flashback to Raiden and Rose's conversation about meeting after he blocks the ship.
To me, the vast majority of the game was certainly worse in that aspect than other games like Half-Life 2: Episode 2, or Portal, or ICO, or a lot of Bioshock, despite the high production values on the cutscenes. If those cutscenes were a movie, I would have been extremely disappointed. It's lucky that there's a fantastic game behind all that.

The majority seems to agree with me and not you. So either 90% of game critics are crazy..or your just wrong.
I'll take the latter.
i have played the game and i can tell you this is the most borring stealth (wannabe action game) i have ever played, the gameplay is OK but the cutscenes oh man what a borring snoozfest scenes in any game ever and some took must than 30 minutes and then when you start playing 1 minute later other large and borring cutrscene I mean WTF?i loved mgs4 but they overused the nano machine concept
the framerate in the game is just hilarious, in some parts in the game the framerate gets a 10 fps (mostly in explosive parts and a lot of stuf going on)
most overrated game evar.
I wonder how much SONY paid, gamespot and IGN.
