MGS4 my favorite game of the last 10 years

So let me start out by saying I have been playing games for 20+ years now, started out on Atari, then went to NES. My top three favorite games of all time have been Link to the Past (SNES), Super Mario 3 (NES), and Final Fantasy 7 (PS). I had all three systems last gen and have all three this gen. I greatly enjoy Halo, loved GTA 4, Gears of War, etc... and then bought MGS4.

Prior to MGS4 I had only played about a few hours of MGS1 so the series is somewhat new to me. I am simply amazed by this game. I usually skip the cut scenes but have watched every single one this time around. As of today, the game is now in my top 5 of all time and I honestly cannot say its at bottom of that list. When it comes to consoles, I truly believe that two of the greatest games this gen by far are GTA4 and MGS4 and yet MGS4 just is... well... WOW.

For those of you old school gamers like me, where do you rank MGS4?

And yes, MGS4 is one of my favourite games as well. However, I prefferred the story of MGS3, althoughthey are both very close.

I Really liked the game but, Im having a hard time finding the will to replay it. The emblems are dumb you cant even see them. I dont even know how many I unlocked on my first playtru because I did not write it down and shouldnt have to, that is stupied. The fun of the game is the weapons and being able to customize them, why would I want to sneak and not kill anyone to get the best emblem? I dont know, I loved my first play tru but am starting to think some of you are really overrating this game.lolkie_81

Hmm I have no idea what this emblem stuff is you are talking about =P seriously. I just started Act 4 (yes I go slow lol) but I am excited to play it again already. For me what makes the game so special isn't its graphics (which I love) but rather its ability to blend cinema, story, gameplay together so brilliantly. I know this will sound veryyyy corny but this is the first game in which the characters story actually reached through the screen and hit me. I knew nothing of Solid Snake prior to this game and yet Kojima's ability to bring the story aspect into the game has actually made me care about Snakes story when I am playing. That is what makes it a masterpiece to me.

I think for its "time" sons of liberty was my favorite as well. I replayed that game a few times just because it was so fun.

It dosent matter, one persons opinion is not better than the next.

MGS4 is easily game of the year for me, and as of right now is game of the generation too. I'm glad to see so many other people enjoyed it! MGS4 is my second favorite game of all time, next to Starcraft. DA_B0MB

DA_B0MB, i haven't played Starcraft (I know, horrible right?) as I just got into PC gaming last year but yes, MGS4 is just amazing!

I see a lot of people mentioning Sons of Liberty in here lol, it was a great game but I loved Snake Eater even more.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've ever had, the way certain songs would come up to bring up old memories during certain points in gameplay was a fantastic little touch. The listing of who the artist was and where the song was originally from in the corner made me really feel like it was an interactive movie that I was in control of.

Who could forget the ending boss battle?

There are just so many moments in that game that really stand out to me. My favorite game of all time is Zone of Enders: The 2nd Runner (ironically its also produced by Hideo Kojima) and MGS4 steals the title by just a hair.

The last time I enjoyed a game as much as I enjoyed playing through MGS4 was the first time I played through LoZ: OoT, almost 10 years ago.

The last time I enjoyed a game as much as I enjoyed playing through MGS4 was the first time I played through LoZ: OoT, almost 10 years ago.

I love the first MGS, really love it, then MGS2 was awesome, really awesome, i haven't had the chance to play MGS3 (shame on me) but when i get it (you can bet i'm gonna get it) i'm sure i'm gonna love it, and then there is MGS4, the best game in years, is so freaking awesome, i havent finish it yet, cause i always come back to previous acts to play some parts, and i'm already planning to start again from the beginning.

MGS4 easily is in my top 2 favorite games of all time with OoT.

Uhhh when did I say that every other game was bad??? I stated that games like Halo, GTA4, GeoW were great but I felt that MGS4 was the pinnacle up to this point. Just because I find one to be utterly ridiculous amazing doesn't mean I don't find others to be amazing.

I don't rank it because I have no interest in playing it. I played the first three MGS games, and the only one I enjoyed at all was Metal Gear Solid. My favorite game of this gen would be a toss up between Gears of War, Call of Duty 4, or Ninja Gaiden II. Although there are a lot of solid looking games coming out this year and next year that will probably become my new favorites.

Not to get off topic but I never thought I would see the day in which someone would play a better Joker than Jack Nicholson and yet it seems as if that day is about to arive.
