MGS4 is easily game of the year for me, and as of right now is game of the generation too. I'm glad to see so many other people enjoyed it! MGS4 is my second favorite game of all time, next to Starcraft. DA_B0MB
hahha ya go starcraft!!!!and mgs4 is also one of my top games!!!!
WORD!!! Dude, it's almost surreal, cause...come on....JACK!!! ya, and you know...and this has NOTHING to do with his passing, but he prob should get a grammy or oscar, or both, for this role :) Have you heard what they're saying about the movie.....up there with Godfather2 and Starwars.....WOW :)jazreal
Thats what I heard, that he is deserving of an Oscar for his performance. I was never a fan of his, he just bothered me. However, after seeing previews of his performance as the Joker, I am amazed at his ability. He litterally puts the spookiness and horror in the role. I can't wait to see it.

lol Spookiness is the right word. NOT at all gimmicky, and VERY believable. and i may have heard wrong, but is the film 4 hours long???? thats what "i thought" i heard??[QUOTE="scoobiesnackarf"][QUOTE="jazreal"]WORD!!! Started on the Atari as well, went to NES, SNES, PS, PS2 then PS3. Though i've finished most N64 games (Zelda, Mario 64, Goldeneye, etc) and even Xbox and 360 games (on PC, Halo, Halo 2, Gears, KOTOR I & II, etc) i do agree.
MGS4 is the best of this gen and enters my personal list of best games of all times. In that list there are Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Castlevania X: Symphony of the Night, Xenogears, FFVII, FFX, Full-Throttle, Sam & Max, StarCraft and now MGS4 is on the list as well. No, i can't reduce the list, if i tried it would end bigger...

Yes, 7th guest was ok. I really did not like that game so much. Yet, i really liked the games we got from LucasArts. Like Grim Fandango. That's a great game! It's almost there in my list.
I forgot to add the SNES' Shadowrun.
One of the best of all times as well. And FFVI... damn, i can't get the list to be any smaller...
I Really liked the game but, Im having a hard time finding the will to replay it. The emblems are dumb you cant even see them. I dont even know how many I unlocked on my first playtru because I did not write it down and shouldnt have to, that is stupied. The fun of the game is the weapons and being able to customize them, why would I want to sneak and not kill anyone to get the best emblem? I dont know, I loved my first play tru but am starting to think some of you are really overrating this game.lolkie_81Dont play it for the emblems.

lol same here. Starcraft at #1 and MGS4 at #2MGS4 is the best game I've played so far. It's a masterpiece. Kojima Productions not only lived up to the hype but far exceeded it. The last fight alone is so awesome. Pure fanservice. You could say the entire game was pure fanservice and I loved it.
I rate it somewhere near the bottom just to annoy everyone.
It's not leaps and bounds better than anything that's ever been. Sorry, it's not. So it's not even near the top.
[QUOTE="Kez1984"][QUOTE="Boogie_J"]a lot of people hate MGS2, but to me that was THE masterpiece in the series. It's too bad the story went over so many heads because few games rival that game's storyline, i'm telling you..
MGS4 is up there though, definitely

By that you mean a sef-important convoluted mess with dialogue worthy of a Anime DVD?
Anime is awesome 8)Correction: Awesome anime is awesome.Bad anime is not. :P
This thread is depressing, not because I hate seeing people enjoy MGSIV, but because I have no nostalgia to feed off of if or when I play this masterpiece. There is nothing more satisfying than playing a game that compliments new, exciting gameplay with wholesome youthful memories. It just means so much more when you're emotionally invested at that level. I really wish I could say that the MGS series was one of those, but it isn't. :(
Oh well, at least Diablo III is going to be one of those pleasant reminders of those good old days.
As strange as this may sound....my faves go in the order of...
MGS3>MGS2>MGS4>MGS
I know thats different than most, but MGS1 just doesn't do it for me the way the others do. MGS4 and MGS are close though. I almost like MGS4 the least. It's not a bad thing. I just enjoyed playing MGS2 and 3 over and over wheras I only played through MGS around 4 times on PSX and Twin Snakes. I've played through MGS3 around 5 times and MGS2 I don't even know...maybe ten times. I need to do no kills, no alerts, no deaths on those two games, because I know every guard location and every item location.
I enjoyed the game. Couldn't possibly hate it (well at least not at all times). It still is the game that I enjoyed less in the series though, for too many a reason that would probably require lots of patience to point across.
In the end it felt like the game in the series that pushed the very same to lesser... well, shall we say greener pastures. Except in the very control of the character, there was definitely growth there. But still, compared to what the other games in the series did for their time... It just didn't feel like much of a significant jump in all areas, at some points(hell many points) it actually reached a feeling of downgrade to me.
If I wasn't to expect something completely revolutionary, I was at least expecting a perfection of the formula that was already established. And the game simply, didn't even reach that point to me.
Snake Eater is the best that I've played mainly because it didnt have the silly story.
Portable Ops is second because its a sequel to Snake Eater.

there were a few parts when it was over the top, but overall it was a good storyline.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty > Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.thrones
Agreed. MGS4 was still pretty sick though in my opinion.
Im in the MGS3 camp.
MGS2 is in my opinion the worst of the series, that doesnt mean its a bad game it isnt, MGS2 didnt do much for me at the time other than wow me with the graphics and the gameplay refinements, i didnt like the bosses in the game all that much, think it had the worst bosses of the franchise.
I think that the content of the entire MGS series is astounding, but the way it's told is just asinine.
That being said, I think that MGS 4 is one of the best games I've ever played and it certainly has the best production values and presentation. It's the first one since MGS that I have felt like completing without wanting to smash my controller into dust particles.
The cutscenes are WAY too long but that didn't bother me as much as I thought. In fact, I really enjoyed them.[QUOTE="Boogie_J"]THE masterpiece in the series. It's too bad the story went over so many heads because few games rival that game's storyline,

Look you are a fanboy. You have to experince the game first ok. Anime are not like Metal Gear. Animes are boring except Death Note.

A *few* parts? I thought the WHOLE story was over the top! :D
it was feasible. nanomachines are in primitive existence, as are AI's, and a lot of the things in MGS will probably be possible in the near future. true, the dialogue was laughable, but then again kojima was trying to imitate an american action movie and he made one better than any true american one i have seen.
