MGS4 no longer 10, Killzone 2 no longer 9

not likely. even with today's standards, those games are still great. even older games like elder scrolls IV oblivion is still great for today's standards. maybe its like this: age of empires, total annihilation, warcraft 2 aren't great compared to red alert3. system shock doesn't compare to crysis. something like that.

A game gets rated according to the standards when the game is being rated.

You could say metal gear solid 4 is AAAAE by 2008 console standards and Killzone 2 AAAE by 2009 standards

Oh, and for more reference anyone who still owns an NES, Genesis, PS1, PS2, N64, Gamecube, Xbox, or anything in between just throw those out. All the games on those systems are like 2.0 or lower by todays standards. Not even worth playing because they're such garbage. If you're still playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time I just want you to know that you have horrible taste in games.

Confined linear games thast you just shoot or crawl are the worst thing that happens to gaming this generation (or any generation), so to me games like Gears 2, MGS4, KZ2 are more like 5-6/10 games for a few hours of cinematic boredom, no deep gameplay, freedom, choiceor anything to write home about

It depends on the genre dude, the FPS genre is constantly spitting out games, ofc standards change quicker. Seriously some of you guys try to hard not to understand things sometimes.

I disagree, FPS on consoles hasn't exactly moved on leaps and bounds between Halo 3 and KZ 2 to be honest. I think Halo 3 is still applicable today. Its just its graphics that seem to bother people I guess (not me). It doesn't matter how many FPS come out, because most are run of the mill, but its harder for the ones that try these days, to continue to push boundries.

So I think things advance slower with FPS games now.

I think cows should stop trying so hard with the KZ 2 score and just let it go. I thinks that's TCs point, if we start conveniently chopping scores in SW then everything has to go.
