Metal Gear Solid because I like single player more than online play, and MGS4 definetly has a better singeplayer 'campaign'

MG4 was how you do a singleplayer fan service properly. Bungie take note.

FrozenLiquid

Unlike most others, Bungie does have the humility to acknowledge their faults.

What's disappointing with our generation of consumers, however, is that people want all flash, no lasting substance. It's why crap like 300 is considered a good movie. It's the reason why CoD 4's singleplayer apparently won out over Halo 3's last year. People were amazed at how awesome and epic everything in CoD 4's campaign was.

Now, however, it's pretty hard to go back after the second play through, or even the first. It's so damn scripted and tight it's not funny.

Apart from that one really stupid level, there's much more incentive to go back and play the all of Halo 3's missions due to its design. When Bungie said they wanted to nail down that "30 seconds of fun" philosophy, they meant it. They could've sold out game replayability by implementing some wowzer cool scripted sequence which may have gave them a greater shot at FPS GOTY last year, but then you have to ask yourself, what would you rather want? Some initially mesmerizing sequence which loses its appeal after multiple playthroughs, or some raw quality gameplay which is further enhanced by the extra features in Halo 3?

That's another thing. People b**** and moan at how Bungie didn't deliver what everyone was asking for. The hell were you asking for then?

1) A cooler co-op feature? Yeah you got it -- you got twice as many players for the campaign, and you got a solid feature set of gameplay changing skulls.

2) You cried that you had to play as Arbiter circa 2004. Bungie took note, and stripped his perspective down, making Master Chief the sole focus. So why did you all of a sudden turn around and tell them they butchered the Arbiter when he was perfectly alright in Halo 2? Make up your damn minds gentlemen: as much as you may think Bungie is God, they're really just human. They listen, they need time to adapt, then you snap your fingers and ask for something else on the fly.

Then they give you things such as Forge and Saved Films, extra things you didn't ask for, but made the Halo experience that much richer. What's the thanks they get? Instead of adding more merit to the Halo franchise, they get points docked off for being a "dumbed down version of Gary's Mod."

Sorry skrat, I'm talking about Bungie bashing at large, and when I talk to these guys on their forums, and sympathize with their passion and love for the game they make and continue to support (Bungie isn't dropping Halo 3 support anytime soon, as well as creating their new IPs); when they humble themselves by giving other devs credit for creating games and inspiring them; then when I hear this "Cough. Bungie, try harder you bunch of gits" it just really gets on my nerves.

Like a baby on a highchair. Gimme gimme gimme. Too hot or too cold? Spit it back in the face of your loving parents.

Our generation of spoilt brats sporting HDTVs are a crass of true gentlemen, indeed.

Well this is the problem there is a great divide between what a Halo fan is.

You havfe people who wanted more multiplayer post Halo 2, and Bungie certainly delivered, and exelled in this department, and im sure in this regard it was a perfect fan service.

But for people who wanted more depth into the story, fleshing out of the characters more, and a singleplayer that pushed the barriers of the platform (as the first did originally).... not to mention stuff that Bungie was hyping for the singleplayer prior to the release, I cant say it delivered. I cant say at all.

Difference is with a game like MGS4 in a series that has been singleplayer since the beginning, you play the game and its plainly obvious that its made for metal gear fans, and Kojima knows exactly what metal gear fans want, which seemed to be evolved gameplay of the same formula that has been in the series since the beginning, and a miraculous roundup of the saga (which seemed like an impossibility). Ontop of that a memorable story to carry the final title, and a sendoff for Snake. For all its worth it seemed to do all of that perfectly, in the most metal gear fashion possible.
Apart from the lackluster online it seemed like the perfect fan service, as I said, its mainly because Kojima knew exactly what the fans wanted.

I know Bungies Halo 3 and online support is phenomenal, and im also very aware that the majority of Halo fans seem to be there for the online, the multiplayer THE major reason why the series is so popular.

As a singleplayer game I just cant see it as a great sequal. It just isnt. It was like a half baked pie, if it was left in the oven for longer, and given some more attention it could have been one of the most memorable experiences, and unlike the mulitplayer it was terribly undercooked, and lacked anything that made it a better pie than X FPS devs pie in 07.

Which is why I say, when I say it wasn't a good fan service, and Bungie should take note from Kojima of how to execute one, in all due respect I mean primarily the singleplayer. Because I honestly could not see how Halo 3s singleplayer was a proper sendoff or finale for a series, compared to a game like MGS4.

Which is why ultimatley Halo 3 is going to remembered as a multiplayer game, and since Halo 2 it has turned into a multiplayer series.

Sure its the mutiplayer that will retain the games popularity in the long run, but its a massive fall from grace considering how good the firsts singleplayer was, and how the bar was dropped so far, in contrast to other singleplayer focused FPSs.

I cant say with bungie I "want want want want want *insert this and that*". All I was expecting was a bombastic singleplayer finale as they themselves had hyped it to be. It wasent that. In respect the multiplayer shocked me how great it was, but the singleplayer, what was supposed to be this hyped core of the game just lacked. Its a matter of "less, less, less" and more focus on nailing the core, than the features themselves (which of course were great). But I guess, as I said Halo has become a multiplayer series, so the whole notion of the singleplayer being the core does falter.

Honestly I think the devs needed to take a step back from all the features and stuff, and just taken a good hard look at what should have been the core crux of the game.

Or is it just possible that you only have a Ps3 and no 360 and therefore haven't even played through Halo 3's campaign and have no right to judge it ????

MGS4 raised the bar for the genre and most important for the gaming industry, Halo 3 did not.

MGS4 was dedicated for the fans and their demands, Halo 3 was not.

Simple as that, I didn't experience in Halo 3 what I've experienced in MGS4, in MGS4 even from the main menu I knew it was going to be something special for this gen of games.

Give me a better main menu theme than this.

Having beat both games on almost every difficulty (Halo's Legendary was easy...again) I agree with him. MGS4 blows Halo 3's Single Player Campaign away. Halo 3 Multiplayer blows MGS4 away.

However, MGS4's Single Player was SO EPIC, and Halo's wasn't...even though it was better than MGS4.

Overall, the most enjoyable experience though, was MGS4, because Halo 3's Multiplayer was passed up by COD4, Battlefield:Bad Company, GeoW (Still, I think), and Warhawk.
Eh, that's what this thread is full of, opinions though.

As far as you asking him what system he owns, don't you think that's silly, since you only have a 360?

agreed. The main menu theme is too good.

I really liked the TV advertisements for PMCs.

Honestly I thought it was amazing, adds so much to the story and setting, and is thought provoking - how do you sell war?.

Even the ads themselves made sense in context of their region and PMC - for instance the artistic European ones.

Impressive stuff.

Yea the Ads were kinda creepy, I didn't know what was happenning at first because I was overwhelmed of what was happenning and wondering if I brought another game or what if the retail lied to me? and didn't notice anything but on my second playthrough I figured it out.

FIrst it felt tacked on, and made me question alot of things.

Like how did whats his face(not naming him) exactly talk to Naomi if he is still in the thingy....

Is it even practical for Liquid Ocelot to act that way

and overall it felt tacked on. I mean I was able to get it. But at first, The stuff before the "suprise" had more of an impact on me.

That said I kind of got what Kojima meant. In a sense the story ended with the characters the STORY arc actually started with(not game order, but story order)

and his message was clear. I just think that the stuff before the credits had a bigger impact.

I have to say My favorite boss figths/segments

1- Laughing Octopus(I think Kojima hit a homerun from the get go)
2- The Metal Gear Showdown
3- Solid Snake versus Liquid Snake
4- Mantis
5- Wolf
6- Vamp
7- Raven

They were all fun though....although Raven was just too simpe of any idea for an MGS boss fight.

That said I kind of got what Kojima meant. In a sense the story ended with the characters the STORY arc actually started with(not game order, but story order)

and his message was clear. I just think that the stuff before the credits had a bigger impact.jg4xchamp
Yeah that is understandable it was a bit like "But WAIT there's more"!

For me it was like a massive weight taken off my shoulders of how Kojima was going to tie up all the loose ends in the saga. Who best than to have *Mr Big Surprise* himself show up.

Admittedly some of the stuff was too drawn out. The whole wedding scene. Eeehhhhhhhhh.

I have to say My favorite boss figths/segments

1- Laughing Octopus(I think Kojima hit a homerun from the get go)
2- The Metal Gear Showdown
3- Solid Snake versus Liquid Snake
4- Mantis
5- Wolf
6- Vamp
7- Raven

They were all fun though....although Raven was just too simpe of any idea for an MGS boss fight. jg4xchamp
Yeah I totally agree, and Laughing Octopus's fight was indeed to me the most memorable. Not just the fight itself, but the cutscenes with her before and after, and the whole mystery around the B&Bs.

However I found the battle against Mantis odd. It took me a while to figure out how to defeat her, but it didnt evoke a reaction from me, or nearly make an impression on me like Laughing Octopus's battle.

^^I just thought Mantis was funny, because you could throw her around.

IMO Octopus had the best backstory, the best emotional impact, and most creative boss fight in the game

She tricked me twice in the battle

When i thought it was Otocon helping me....- BANG wrong

and when I didn't notice that The dead Body of a Frog should have disappeared awhile ago.....

IT was such a good boss fight. Very well executed. I think Wolf had the second best back story.

OCtopus the best, because I honestly felt bad for her and said "Thats F'ed UP"

I enjoyed Metal Gear Solid 4 far more than I did Halo 3.

I enjoyed Metal Gear Online far more than Halo 3's multiplayer as well.

I really loved Metal Gear Solid 4. It was so epic, and really drew you in.

Halo 3 was great, but MGS4 is in a league of it's own in my opinion.

halo 3 is absolute trash comapred to the first two, and was not remotely enjoyable compared to when i bought halo 2 at launch.

MGS4 was freaking amazing though, i'm currently on my third playthrough, trying to get the bandana, stealth camo, and the tanegashima rifle or whatever it's called. the only downfall is that the online is kinda sucky, but hey at least it's more populated than UT3.
