LOL who cares bout MGO ... i beat the game 5 times already & i havent even registered to MGO and never will, SP is what MGS is about
This topic is locked from further discussion.
thats great !!!.
because of the stupid opinions of people saying 20 hours cutscenes 7 hours gameplay thing people doubt on buying the game
Dont listen to them people buy the game and enjoy the pure perfection!!!, and if you dont like it change it for another game
What about MGO participation? You need MGS4 and a PS3 to do MGO, so that could provide a conservative sold-to-consumer estimate.HuusAsking
online attach is actually a lot lower than you'd think, they say only 6 of 10 people actually take their consoles online these days - which i find really weird. not sure if there are updated figures on that, but you could take the number of people on MGO and extrapolate based on PS3 online attach figures to get a pretty good idea of how many were sold.
[QUOTE="nintendo-4life"]Its doing good for a PS3 only game and Konami isn't trying to get Gears or Halo like sales. So long as they are making a profit. Not bad... but not great, GeoW outsold it in the same time period i think.
kinda sad this game isn't doing better.
SnakePS360Gamer
What a rediculous thing to say. They will always want to sell as many units as possible. To suggest they aren't trying to is ludicrous.
konami announced yesterday that they just had their millionth mgo subscriber. so there are 1 million confirmed buyers
ogvampire
ok then, time for some fun and fuzzy math.
facts:
1,000,000 MGO subscribers
58% (roughly 6 of 10) take their consoles online (figure courtesy of NPD Group, April '08 report)
1,000,000 + 42% (420,000 people that don't play online) = 1,420,000 copies sold.
now here is the fuzzy - this doesn't account for people that have bough the game, go online with their PS3, but haven't played MGO yet, but no matter how you spin the numbers you won't hit the 4M mark - feel free to try. you'd have to claim that the vast majority (and i mean insanely vast) that bought it and go online with their PS3 didn't even register for MGO.
I hope this makes is painfully clear to people how sales arguments are meaningless this gen. Konami's report was based on all sales including copies sold to Sony for bundles which could a) still be in storage, or b) are still on store shelves. There is no getting around this math - even if you put the margin for error at 100%.
Buth teh cows said that game sells mean noting druggyjoe3000
I believe it was posted to prove the lemmings who said it wouldn't sell wrong. This is SW after all. You will always see graphics, sales, and review games.
Top 15 for ps3 has 5 seperate exclusives
Top 15 for the 360, has 5 exclusives 3 of which is shared with the pc, and 2 of which are sequels from this gen.
So please keep the fanboyism out and lay it to rest about the ps3 not having any games now. I think that argument is officially dead. And if still being brought up is only due to lemmings running out of reasons to bash the ps3 and just can't handle the fact that the ps3 has plenty of games now. Plenty of actuall exclusives and more on the way, all the while playing some great multiplates aswell :)
Thats good for Konami, I know they were worried for a while that the PS3 hardware was going to be a sales flop for the game. It was an amazing experience too. I just don't see Konami wanting to take that kind of risk again though and maybe see them going multiplatform from here on out.Darthmatt
Konami as a whole will defintely develop multiplat games.
Kojima Productions will always focus on one console in order to get the most out of it. Their next game would either be 360 or PS3 exclusive.
Which is why I qualified my basis for this number as a conservative estimate. We can at least obtain a minimum number with this fact, and we now know at least 1 million people have played MGS4 on their PS3--it's pretty safe to say most of those people bought the game (in contrast to renting them, just to keep things on a legal track).I hope this makes is painfully clear to people how sales arguments are meaningless this gen. Konami's report was based on all sales including copies sold to Sony for bundles which could a) still be in storage, or b) are still on store shelves. yeah, i wouldn't be shocked if the sales are even up around 3 million or more. if you're willing to say that around 1 of 3 people that bought it that do use PSN (have their PS3 online) haven't even registered - which i don't think is crazy.. but in reality i'd say the sales are close to breaking 3 million, not over. but who the hell knows, heh :).

what you absolutely fail to show - and for obvious reasons - is the breadth and depth of the 360 library compared to the PS3, or say - compare the PS3 lineup now to the PS2 lineup at the same point in it's product cycle. funny how two icebergs look the same when floating in the water - but can obviously have incredibly varied shapes and sizes when you go past the water line.
fact of the matter is the 360 has the more diverse library when considering not just AAAE games, and that's what really defines a console over time.
so no, you haven't quashed the argument. it isn't close to being officially dead. if you think it is then i welcome you to start a thread right now in SW instead of arguing this in the back alleys - i'll be there with my popcorn :)
there is still a very valid concern among PS3 owners that the library is nothing compared to the PS1/PS2, and is still a shadow of the 360s total library. Even if you just add in AA games you'll see the 360 has an insane lead on metaranking sites.
Ok Shovelware for the win then right? I get how its played now. Geez I do hope that Sony puts out alot of waisted plastic disks soon to have a more diverse library lol.
GreyFoXX4
that's seriously your retort? that's your argument? i can see why you don't make an official thread for your argument :P and i find it hilarious that anything less than AAA to you is shovelware.
it's been proven that the PS1/PS2 did so well due to the library, it's diversity, and wide selection of budget titles. and despite that you barely have an argument to establish a case for PS3 having a good variety of AAA games given how long it's been out.
c'mon, make a thread on this. i'd love to participate, i'll give you my best - i have tons of material :)
We're not even talking shovelware here. Just look at the JRPG genre. You would think a genre that's based in Japan would gravitate more towards a Japanese console--if not the PS3, then the Wii. But where are most of them right now? And they're not even cheapies for the most part. Namco's two JRPGS were solid 8.5's each, and most of the others made at least 7. It won't take three guesses unless you're being an intentional idiot. Plus one of the PS3's supposed flagship titles, FF13 (that's right, a JRPG) has bridged the gap. Then you've got companies like Capcom and Namco who are striking out to the gaijin console when they weren't so accommodating last gen.Ok Shovelware for the win then right? I get how its played now. Geez I do hope that Sony puts out alot of waisted plastic disks soon to have a more diverse library lol.

Take everything into consideration and you have to admit the landscape has changed, much as the US elections have changed. It's no longer just Sony's world. It pains the cows to admit it, but Microsoft has managed to make genuine penetrating inroads into the console market and has made this a serious battle for second...and it's Microsoft currently in that spot and with nothing that's guaranteed to threaten it on the horizon. Indeed, time and money are on Microsoft's side now. The longer Sony waits, the more once-loyal-now-exasparated gamers plunk down for a cheaper but more diverse alternative, knowing full well that the cycle is due to repeat in two more years. IOW, might as well get while the gettin's good.

Well I think about 99.9999% of people bought MGS4 for the single player. Some probably heard from friends or reviewers about the sub-standard on-line,and just didn't bother. Also as strange as it may seem, some people just don't play on-line,ever.Plus the fact that some people don't even have internet access.(Just my theory anyway :P)

i honestly dont know how they got that high so fast. last i heard MGS4 sold about 3.3 mil, now it shot up to 4.3 so fast. not that i dont believe konami, but maybe they reported shipped numbers, not sold numbers

So like 37 mini games based on carnivals or some mediocre kids cartoon for every quality first party game? I mean they have Nintendo to look to for guidance.
Not bad... but not great, GeoW outsold it in the same time period i think.
kinda sad this game isn't doing better.

Halo 3 has sold over 9 million and GeoW2 will probably sell about the same amount. That's a great achievement for MGS4, since I don't think any of their previous titles have sold that many copies. I think the main reason it sold so well was because there weren't any incredible games like that on the PS3 yet. A lot of PS3 gamers really didn't have anything extrodinary to play up until MGS4. So gamers flocked to it. Kudos to Konami, now hurry up and make a new MGS game for the XBox 360 and Wii.

I think it had to do with MGS2, Raiden being the main playable character that might had put a lot of people off. And I agree MGS3 was the best story wise.
