Ground Zeroes got panned because of the length and price. The gameplay was otherwise flawless.

Its Metascore is still pretty close to Destiny's, funnily enough, and of course it scored higher here on GS

Doom 3 was not like that. sure it was slower than doom 2 but atmosphere wise it was incredible. it doesnot have follow scripted path, shitty stealth section, cutscenes, ironsight like new wolf has.

Mmm, MGS isn't exactly what I'd call niche. The games usually sell about 5-6 million+ on one platform. Hell, MGS2 sold 7 million into an install base of 15 million at the time... that's not niche at all lol. MGS4 spiked PS3 sales and was the turning point for the console. None of that sounds niche to me.

And no, not because it's the newest. So far my favorite games in the series are MGS2 and MGS3. Obviously being the newest (or oldest) game in the series has nothing to do with what I consider quality. Not even sure how you came to that conclusion.

Yes, MGS4 was a pile of shit. MGSV is a completely different game. I had more fun with Ground Zeroes than I did with the entirety of MGS4, and that was just a lengthy demo. Also, Ground Zeroes got "panned" for length vs. price. Otherwise, it was showered with praise for its quality gameplay and production values. Actually it's funny that you bring up GZ reviews, as a good chunk of them made mention that TPP would be GOTY material if GZ is anything to go by.

MGSV is the most mechanically sound MGS game BY FAR. It's not even close. The controls, the AI, the amount of choice for the player just completely shuts down all MGS titles before it. This is all based on GZ, and TPP is only improving and expanding upon that. Then we have the fact that TPPs flow and mission structure is an expansion on PW which essentially guarantees more content than any MGS before it... all of this let loose in multiple open world sandboxes..

As a game, MGSV already has best in series in the bag. Story wise? Who knows. MGS4 had the worst story in the series and still managed critical acclaim.

Man, I get that you really don't know what's what with this series. It's like you read an article or two and came in here expecting to be some authority. Make sure to remember this thread and have yourself a good laugh next year when MGSV comes out and you see just how wrong you were.

Seeing the gameplay video, wasn't the game set in Afghanistan? Why is there a jungle? Is it a jungle?

Afghanistan is just one locale, this was Africa. I believe there will be at least one more locale too.

oh my god they turned the lights off TEH ATMUSTPHERE...**** off, game was a corridor crawl of pure boredom, with key fetching, bland encounters, and all that jazz. New Order had dual wielding automatic shotguns, game was bitchin. Not surprising considering the Escape from Butcher Bay and The Darkness devs made it.

I dont know about many. I havent seen turd and MGS4 put in the same sentence alot. I personally thought it was great. From what iv played from GZ I think TPP will be a blast.

Oh man Kojima is literally doing everything I wanted with this game, the fact key characters can die permanently is really going to make stealth vital.

Uncharted - good chance to win GOTY

Bloodborne - crap game

Division - another crap game

Rainbow Six Sieg - is that a joke? crap game

Arkham Knight - Will be one of the best games of 2015 for sure

No man's Sky - crap game, again.

The Witcher 3 - Will be graphics king, but other than that, crap game.

The part about Ocelot possibly not being a buddy bums me out. One thread I read had a guy speculating that if Ocelot were a buddy you could go into a "Rival Mode" and he'd be talking smack while you compete for the most kills in a mission. That'd be so fucking awesome lol.

Buddys permanently dying sounds kick ass.

Oh btw, I also saw a different version of the 20 minute gameplay where the decoy was some ghoulish looking apparition/character from Silent Hill. I'll try to dig that one up soon.

Here it is. Pretty much the same demo, but with a few different things (finding DD, different decoy, etc..)

I'm not even going to explain why this is an idiotic post, at least everyone else put effort into there post instead of repeating crap over and over again, which is basically what sums up MGS since MGS4 came out.

Every numbered MGS title has swept up multiple goty awards with the most recent getting both a perfect score and goty on this very site.

If you're basing your argument on Ground Zeroes, you might want to read those reviews instead of looking at just the scores. Reviewers thought the game was excellent, but nobody likes paying for a demo no matter how great it may be. The amount of content was the issue, something MGSV will have no shortage of.

It's foolish to make predictions about goty 2015 right now, but it's even more foolish to count MGSV out of the running when it's one of the most ambitious upcoming titles coming from a killer pedigree.

History is not on your side. The fact that this game plays better than every MGS and even Splinter Cell before it doesn't help you either.

Just watched the English tgs gameplay. The sound effects Quiet makes are kind of annoying, and seem out of place for a stealth game.

Nice try my degenerate little friend but with an IQ of 133 (> 98th percentile) and an MBA from an Ivy league college I am anything but dumb (you obviously are though)

Metal Gear Solid 4 won GOTY here at Gamespot, (scored a 10 out of 10 score from virtually every big video game reviewer like GS, IGN, GameInformer, Famitsu, aka all the biggest publications)

And every major Metal Gear game has been a serious GOTY contender. Zelda has been a joke since the Wii-era, and some of the games you mentioned were downright mediocre.

The Witcher 1-2 for instance is a great game (I actually enjoyed them both), but its not even a AAA franchise. TW1 got 8/10 (or something) and TW2 barely scrapped a 9 here at GS. I'm willing to bet (without having done the research) that they are both below 90 on Metacritic/Gamerankings. And you are stupid enough to believe that TW3 (based on its amazing visuals?) has a higher probability of winning GOTY than Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain which looks superior in every way to one of the greatest games of all time (MGS4), a part of one of the greatest franchises (Metal Gear) of all time? Buahaha. Like I said, only Uncharted 4 (based on ND's experience in past games; UC2 and TLOU being two of the greatest games of last gen) and a couple others were the only ones that STOOD A CHANCE against MGS5.

I based my GOTY predictions based on what games have been shown and what games have been hyped or received accolades so far. Regardless of weather you want to admit it or not, MGSV wasn't even one of the top five biggest games at E3 this past year.

As far as MGS GOTY history, lets take a look at that, and I'm not going to count Readers Choice Awards

MGS: Didn't win a single GOTY award, the majority of GOTY awards for 1998 went to Ocarina of Time

Sons of Liberty: Won one GOTY award from Game Informer. As opposed to Halo CE which won 5 GOTY awards, GTA3 which won 7 and Final Fantasy X that won 1

Snake Eater: Did not receive one GOTY award, as oppose to Halo 2 winning 4, Half Life 2 winning 10, GTA San Andreas winning 3, World of Warcraft winning 1 and Doom 3 winning 1

Guns of the Patriots: 3 GOTY Awards, one of them from Gamespot, 2 others from Gamezine, a site that I can't even access, and PAL Gaming Network which is defunct, but to be fair so are some other sites that reviewed Ocarina of Time so I'll give it a pass

3 GOTY awards as oppose to GTA4 which won 10, LBP that won 3, Fallout 3 that won 6, and Fable 2 that won 3.

So much for sweeping multiple GOTY awards as you stated. 2 MGS games didn't receive any, the other one's only receive one from a major publisher and were overshadowed by several other games. History isn't on my side? Apparently it's not on your side either.

Also, enough with the demo excuse. GZ had less content, it was also $30 as oppose to $60. Halo ODST had a 3-4 hour campaign and a multiplayer component that everyone already owned, $60 and 83 on Metacritic. That excuse doesn't fly.
