Microsoft Sucks...plain and simple. After 3+ years of owning an XBOX 360,I got the dreaded RROD. My console is out of warranty, Microsoft refuses to repair it unless I pay $100...screw that. I'll end up trying to fix it myself. I never overused the console, never kept it in a confined space, never left it dusty and dirty, etc. etc. I can now sympathize with everyone else who hasdealt with this. It was a valiant effort by Microsoft to extend the RROD warranty to 3 years, but really it wasn't enough to please their customers. It should've been a massive recall and until each and every RROD XBOX was fixed, the repair should be free. I find it funny how you XBOX fanboys can brag about this piece of trash and how great the sales are compared to the PS3. I guarantee you that a large percentage of XBOX sales are people like me who have had to or will buy 2 XBOX 360 consoles due to the RROD. Sure, some may still beunder waranty and get the free repair, others not covered will pay for the repair and/or buy a new one...so no more bragging please. Had Microsoft built a solid console from the beginning their sales would be about even or under the PS3s.

lol your claiming you even owned a 360? your claiming you had rrod, and your using the exact same argument that would apply to the ps3 as well since it has a 11% failure rate, that a good portion of purchases are rebuys.

Its not microsofts fault your unwilling to pay 100 dollars for a fix but are willing to make it so they will completely refuse to fix your system *if you try to fix it your self* or go buy a new one for even more money then what it would cost to get it repaired.

In the mean time, I'll sit and play my elite that got e74 and was fixed in a week and 2 days *and eventually free since e74 got covered under 3 year* and my nephew will continue to play my old pro launch system that still has yet to fail.

Oh no worries there my friend....I have a PS3! The only reason I have a 360 is for the exclusive games otherwise I buy all multi-plats on PS3. And yes, it does do everything! An amazing system, no hardware problems, full backwards compatibility (I have an original 20GB, upgraded to 320GB), freedom with the hardrive, freedom to backup and restore data, and the funniest part is the streaming capability for music/movies on my Windows PC! Streaming works perfectly from my PC to PS3, but would never work with the 360..made by Microsoft....utterly pathetic!

No sympathy for you here. The warranty is 3 years and you've had it longer. When you open a new 360 there is a service plan for $50 you can send in for, it covers for 2 years any problems. I got that, it goes into effect after the 3 year warranty, so I'm covered 5 years for 50 bucks. When the warranty on your car goes do you pay for the mechanic to fix it or cry about GM?

23% yea right the GI is alot more reliable than the article that says 23% they only count one and a half years of the X360s life and is not the only warranty site there is.

btw why are you using GI's PS3 11% if you don't like GI ?

You must be a math wiz! 11% equals a good portion of rebuys....ok. Sure it's Microsofts fault. They should've recalled the systems. It may not be financially smart to spend $300 on a new one when I could get mine repaired for $200 less, but I've heard the horror stories of getting a "repaired" system back thats DOA. I don't wanna deal with that and it's my decision if I wanna buy a new one. Plenty of other people were in the same situation as I and also chose to buy a new system...that was my point. So don't bother trying to defend a faulty console made by a greedy company with crap customer service. And oh yea, it's only a matter of time before your old launch system fails.

Sorry, but there was no $50 service plan with launch consoles and if there were I certainly wouldn't have been duped into buying it anyway. And because I've had it for more than 3 years and it broke I should be ok with that? Sorry, but my Nintendo from 1987 still works....if you think 3 years isa long shelf life for an expensive piece of electronics then you have problems. Yea, go ahead and compare cars and Xboxes, that's a good point to make on a video game website forum...

"Its not microsofts fault your unwilling to pay 100 dollars for a fix but are willing to make it so they will completely refuse to fix your system *if you try to fix it your self* or go buy a new one for even more money then what it would cost to get it repaired." There is no logic in this quote, for one thing people should have to pay 100 or more to have something fixed that breaks normally. To go up against your second claim, no one should have to try to fix it themself or buy a new one. Microsoft lacks the ability to fix an issue which has been present for years and instead of fixing the probelm they find a run around alternative that people sadly will buy into. With no hesitation even after the three year warranty is up for only one probelm, let us not forget the other defects it won't cover with the three year warranty. You are not only paying to have something fix in which you know will break over and over again after the so called three year warranty, you are also wasting money on online. How are you wasting money for online gaming you ask? All the times you don't have your Xbox 360 on you are still having money come into Microsoft. So lets say you didn't play your Xbox 360 for a month for a perticular reason, you are still supposed to pay and you lose money. With free online I can choose when I want to play without being affraid of not getting my money worth. I can even choose not to play online at all and still be alright, but with a Xbox 360 in most peoples opinion if you don't play online with a Xbox 360 you shouldn't have one. This is obvious the mentality of alot of people sense they keep saying Xbox 360 has such a better service and that online gaming is they key to having a Xbox 360. I avoid the Xbox 360 for a pretty easy reason, not only because of the problmes I posted above, but for the simply fact it realizes on Western related games too much and the Japanese games that do make it to the United States either don't interest me or can be gotten as a enhanced port for PlayStation 3.

Isn't it 23%? Wow fanboys lately are really on the loose both the leemings and cows.

Fact that the 360's failure rate is 54%

Well mine is working fine the two years I had it.

23% yea right the GI is alot more reliable than the article that says 23% they only count one and a half years of the X360s life and is not the only warranty site there is.

btw why are you using GI's PS3 11% if you don't like GI ?

I didn't use GI's survey for the PS3 or the 360. I though the whole article was a bunch of bull (like most surveys). BTW when did I say I didn't like GI?

1 warranty company out of many counting only2 years of Xbox's 4 years...

just to be clear...

Or a poll anyone, like you(major cow) could enter in? I think the study is much more accurate. Lets not forget, I do believe it was the most recent two years, when more and more of older xboxs would be failing.

Had Microsoft built a solid console from the beginning their sales would be about even or under the PS3s.

paul52181
It happens. but you can get it fixed for $100 which is half the price of a new console. The fact that yours is out of warranty says you made it 3 WHOLE years on a first gen Xbox, thats freakin amazing! Once you get it repaired though, it will have newer guts and won't be your old 'xbox' anymore, it will work longer without problems.

no the article says it was specifically the first 2 years not the recent years and the poll is correct it's just fact that one in every 3 X360 owners have gotten failure with the 360 you can't deny it.

Like I said before...without all the failures and repurchases the 360 would be in 3rd place so stop being an immature fanboy and bragging about a piece of trash. I know it's been said a billion times already, but do you ignorant Xbots forget that the360 had a 1 year head start on the PS3 yet you only lead by 7 million?? With the new PS3 price drop and great exclusives it's only a matter of time. In the coming years the 360 will be outdated and far, far behind the PS3 in sales..just wait and see.

Well 54% came from the same poll as 11% so if you're gonna use that as a source for the PS3 failure rate, then yes its 54%

I can. None of by friends have gotten it. Thats 0% chance. Face it. If it was a 54% failure rate, the study would have shown that. AND i was right. It was from 2007 till now. So, as the launch 360s got older, wouldnt they need MORE repairs? "Electronics-warranty company SquareTrade has issued a survey of 16,000 game consoles it serviced from the second quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of 2009." From the article.

Its nothing to be jealous about when a console that is winning shouldn't be due to lack of support to fix a simple issue/defect. How a console wins is opinion any ways. Some people consider the console that sold the most wins, the console that has the best library, or the console that was able to last the longest this generation before giving up and we all know it will be the PlaySTation 3. Why you ask? Because the same was done with the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, so in the end Xbox 360 still won't win because if Microsoft released the original Xbox in 2001 - 2004 before pretty much giving up on it, the PlayStation 3 will win as far as lasting the longest I can assure you that. Check this Xbox 2001 - 2004, Xbox 360 2005 - 2009, sure its lasted longer then its original, but I still can assure you that it will not last over the PS3, getting ahead doesn't help, all it does is rush you out of the game faster. Which is why the Tortise won and the Rabbit did not and you can laugh all you like its true. In the end, who is considered the winner is only opinion, the true winner is the one who stays in the game the longest and that will be the PS3 in my opinion. You can disagree all you like, the PS1 did it, the PS2 did it, and now the PS3 will stay in this generation for 10 years, so if you think Nintendo and Microsoft will do that, good luck. If so many people keep asking cows why sales matter now and so many people don't think sales should matter then you shouldn't be considering the Xbox 360 the winner based off sales, because I don't see how you feel its the winner even based off a opinion unless you mean the library or something. it should be based off who last in the generation the longest and everyone knows who will stay in this generation the longest despite the fact the Wii is a success. SLOW & STEADY WINS THE RACE, no matter how you choose to think of that is your own opinion and have fun laughing it up. But the PS3 is the Tortise it takes its time in delivering games. Based off the majority of opinions even on Gamespot, most PS3 exclusives do well, the ones that get a 7.5 or very bad don't get talked about, but the games that get ranked in the 7.0's are still good, just ignored. QUALITY VS QUANITY MOST PEOPLE KNOW THE CORRECT ANSWER The Xbox 360 will not win in my opinion because Microsoft will do what they did witht he original Xbox, they will use it for a short time and make a new one, by making a new system and givign up on the old before the generation is over is basically for fitting, not winning like so many people claim.
