How exactly do they act as a monopoly? Did you miss the link I gave back? They are trying to make companies pay them for using Linux basically... See the Halloween documents leak for further proof on how Microsoft is set to make propietary patents on several different products to further limit the market to their own products. See the lawsuit of Sun against Microsoft regarding java. They basically took java which is a program that is supposed to be cross-platform and tried to make them Windows exclusive basically. While companies like Sun are trying to make the industry as open and varied as possible, Microsoft is set to make it as closed and exlcusive (for them) as possible.

You understand in business you try to protect you marketshare and also increase it right? This isn't something Apple, Sony or any other big company doesn't do. Again you're confusing success & business practice (albeit unsavoury but thats the world, as you'll find out) with "acting like a monopoly" (which I don't understand how you can "act" like a monopoly, you either are or aren't)
[QUOTE="RedruM_I"]Microsoft = monopoly = sucks.Rza_rectahMS is not a monopoly. They tried those tactics and got sued.
Microsoft is a monopoly by some definitions. The exact definition of the term "monopoly" is as unrealistic as the exact definition of the term "perfect competition" so they have been adjusted.

God I don't want to move into the realm of defending MS here, but why should they have to put competitors products in theirs? All businesses seek to protect and expand marketshare, MS isn't doing anything different. If you were an investor in MS wouldn't you be worried if MS wasn't researching competitors and trying to counter them? That doesn't make them a monopoly.
In terms of EU vs MS you're behind the times http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8537763.stm
