That's one thing I have to applaud Phil for. Last gen, Microsoft lost out money and faith by not owning exclusive IPs (like Gears, Dead Rising, Mass Effect 1, L4D, Saints Row 1 etc.), it's good that they've gone the Sony route and chose to obtain the IPs.

Ori and The Blind Forest, Quantum Break, Scalebound, ReCore, Crimson Dragon, State of Decay and ScreamRide all belong to Microsoft despite being developed externally.

Sunset Overdrive is the only game developed externally that doesn't belong to Microsoft but that would have meant no chance of the game existing because Insomniac wanted to own the property and Sony doesn't do things that way. It's good Microsoft made the compromise because we got a great game out of it which MAY come to PC later.

Ryse was another but Crytek were dicks about it. Microsoft seems to be still trying to retrieve Ryse, so I wouldn't count it out completely.

All they need now is capable/quality AAA first party studios though. Something which Sony kills them at.

I hope they keep Phil, he knows what's he doing. BUILD THAT IP LIST, THE XBOX NEEDS IT, BREAK THE SHOOTERBOX STIGMA. GO PHIL!

Getting the ips is one thing, them actually being great is another.

Allegedly Ori is already there, the rest of the stuff remains to be seen. Ryse is pretty bad.

Well considering the IP didn't sell well and Microsoft actually seeking them out to retrieve it, I'd say they were dicks about. Even in their period of hardship, they wouldn't sell it. You have TimeSplitters, why do you need Ryse?

Yeah Phil is doing a good job in that department. The irony is people claim MS be buying exlcusives and studios left and right. But really... Rare and Lionhead were really the only studios they bought... And that was early in the Xbox life cycle. Other than that MS has not used its money wisely, they mostly bought timed exclusive deals and third party devs to make games for them and yet the third party games werent even owned by MS like Gears(early on obviously).

Heck they still as of not yet bought Remedy. MS seemed to stray away from building up their first party game library and buying exclusives/studios, it was because of this that MS lost the Mass Effect franchise for good.

Its seems Phil is making sure games stay on the X1 or at least X1/PC and not the rival consoles. The new IPs for X1 are also looking interesting, but we need to see more from Recore and especially Scalebound.

Who cares if they own the IP. Owning a PC is still making Xbox redundant.

I'll never understand owning just the franchise "name" for video games.

Owning powerful studios I think is the way more important to win generations.

Like Bungie, Naughty Dog, Nintendo. It's not the IP imo its the studio who makes the games behind the IP. You take the studio away its just not going to be the same game anymore..

I feel like letting go of bungie, bioware, epic to third party and spending tons of money on big name IP's just doesn't make any sense. People want the game from the studio. People want the next Christopher Nolan movie they don't care if some weirdo directs like a Inception 2, they want the new nolan movie not sequel by some unknown.

The Mojang minecraft purchase while keeping it third party is also some of the strangest plays I've ever seen. If Sony bought that you would see ONLY ON PLAYSTATION I Guarantee it, it would instantly come out of stores, and you would need to put on PS to play it to move systems and gain market share.

I can't understand most of Phil's moves. I'm just not sure he's the right guy for the job I dunno if he understands the industry. Look at android they put an android robot pissing on an iphone an stuff they ARE COMPETING against each other it's not a friendly game of let me praise bloodborne or whatever nobody does that in this kind of field.

The BC announcement was great theory but i'm skeptical that it doesn't pan out. I'm not sure how many games I own will work with it so I can't get really excited and I have 360 in my basement so if it plays them worse than that id rather just rehook the 360 up no point in playing game with lower frames on a better system if I have download them and use up space on HD.

Yeah and? They still own them, they can do whatever the hell with them. And Microsoft has an obligation to Windows 10, once that dies down. They'll set their sole attention back onto Xbox.

How exactly? Because a few games that are on the Xbox One came to the PC as well? What about all the ones not on the PC? What about the PlayStation 4 *exclusives* which share domain with the PC...

This is without a doubt one of the dumbest perpetuated arguing points I have seen.

Microsoft is being generous, you don't see Sony releasing their IPs on a platform outside of PlayStation and yet, Microsoft is the evil one. lol

Everyone wants platform agnostic but when Microsoft does something to the like, it's considered bad. Wow.

For SW sure, we don't consider these games exclusives, but you can't deny the value that it has for MS that they can't be found on PS4

Yeah but PS4 is going to matchup better with PC and the whole point of the xbox was to own the living room so PS4 will own the living room if it matches up better with owning a PC. I could definitely see a lot of people saying I own a PC / PS4 (exclusives) / WiiU (exclusives) and not mention xbox anymore last gen I think everyone had a 360 last gen in every house I went in. Its not good for the brand period to have no exclusives.

Just for comparison's sake, Microsoft owns the Crimson Dragon who's developer also made Panzer Dragoon Orta for the OG Xbox. The latter they don't own. Not that it means much individually as the name value of both are worthless but Phil is actually changing Mattrick's tired and destructive routine, he deserves all the credit he gets.

BELIEVE IN PHIL SPENCER IS TRUE.

Stop pretending it's a good thing that the Xbox is losing their exclusives left and right to PC. There's absolutely no reason to buy an Xbox One, now that more of their exclusives are coming to PC. It's a good thing for gamers that more of their IPs are coming to PC, not so much for the Xbox brand. Losing their exclusives stunts the growth of the Xbox brand, we don't have to buy a low-end underpowered last gen tech to play 2 or 3 of their exclusives anymore.

Don't worry when Windows 10 loses steam, you won't see any exclusives on PC and cry "M$ the evil one" whilst also touting the lack of games on the Xbox One. As hypocritical as it sounds, it's still a certainty for Sony fanboys.

Considering Microsoft owns the most widely used computer OS on the planet...it makes sense they would like more games to be on PC as well. Not to mention Windows 10 is being billed as a "gaming centric" OS. It's a win-win for them. Or do you think M$ actually cares what a handful of people on System Wars try to "own" each other with?

Them's the breaks when you fund a game's development instead of developing a game internally. Maybe they'll learn from their mistakes and invest in buying first-party studios rather than renting them.

Maybe you should read things in context, which you would have gotten (presumably) had you bothered to read beyond the first sentence of his post. It's pretty apparent, if you read the entire post's contents, that he's referring to the negative impact on the Xbox brand.

I don't know how many times I have to explain this and it gets tiring. MS doesn't see PC gaming as competition to their console. The PC is an open platform.

"But..but...but...BlessbyHorus the X1 games being on PC will be a disadvantage for the X1! There is no reason to buy an X1!!!!!"

True and not true. One thing we have to understand is that us people on forums are a minority, but a vocal minority. PC gamers who game on consoles are an exception and like I said a vocal minority. In real like the demographic difference between Consoles and PC gaming is so different that its not even funny. And I noticed it in real life so many times to come to this conclusion of my own and even MS themselves know it. The average console gamer does not know jack about anti-aliasing, CPU power, framerates or even modding... The average console gamer is not going to spend $900-1000 on a gaming rig. They would rather use that money to buy a Mac, new HDTV or save up for a car.

The thinking between console and PC gamers are so vastly different in real life if that you ask an average console gamer what 4k is, they probably wouldn't know. Console gaming is viewed as "entertainment", meanwhile PC gaming is viewed as a "hobby". MS understands the two demographics are different and knows that porting their games over to PC will not even effect the sales of their console. You guys must be sh*tting if ya think the average console gamer(with no experience in building gaming rigs) will build himself a high end rig that cost about $900-1000 just because the new Halo game is coming to PC.

Crytek are dicks for wanting to own their own IP?

Well considering the IP didn't sell well and Microsoft actually seeking them out to retrieve it, I'd say they were dicks about. Even in their period of hardship, they wouldn't sell it. You have TimeSplitters, why do you need Ryse?

Because it's theirs. What's difficult to understand about that?

Microsoft funded it and got a pretty thin game in return with a fuckton of potential. I say it should be their's.

Them's the breaks when you fund a game's development instead of developing a game internally. Maybe they'll learn from their mistakes and invest in buying first-party studios rather than renting them.

You don't need to own the studio to own the IP, you do know that, right? Microsoft could get Rockstar to make an X1 exclusive game for them and still own the IP.

Unlike Sony with Agent, they probably went broke trying to offer the sum of development. lol, poor company is poor.

Microsoft is being generous, you don't see Sony releasing their IPs on a platform outside of PlayStation and yet, Microsoft is the evil one. lol

Everyone wants platform agnostic but when Microsoft does something to the like, it's considered bad. Wow.

Stop pretending it's a good thing that the Xbox is losing their exclusives left and right to PC. There's absolutely no reason to buy an Xbox One, now that more of their exclusives are coming to PC. It's a good thing for gamers that more of their IPs are coming to PC. Losing their exclusives stunts the growth of the Xbox brand, we don't have to buy a low-end underpowered last gen tech to play 2 or 3 of their exclusives anymore..

It's not a good thing more people get to play great games? That's pretty selfish of you.

Don't worry when Windows 10 loses steam, you won't see any exclusives on PC and cry "M$ the evil one" whilst also touting the lack of games on the Xbox One. As hypocritical as it sounds, it's still a certainty for Sony fanboys.

Well, I'm a gamer, you're a gamer. I read his post in that context, you seem to have comprehension issues. Basically contradicting yourself as well.

I'm bored. You're boring me and I'm not getting into a childish pissing match about this. It was clear to me what he was stating. Again, had you read past the first sentence it would have been clear to you as well.

This is the last I have to say to you on this topic.

@Bruin1986: Did I say that? Fact is is if you own a gaming PC you get a lot of so-called Xbox exclusives and that makes PS4 a more attractive product by comparison.

Sony is starting to do the same thing with some of their 3rd party deals like SFV so it must make some financial sense though.
