Though Sony has sold more than 6 million PS4 consoles, Microsoft may be closer in sales than you think.

"On March 13, Microsoft released a statement regarding the success of the Xbox One, calling it the most successful launch in Xbox history. “Xbox One continues selling at a record-breaking pace with 258,000 units sold in the U.S. in the month of February, surpassing Xbox 360 sales by over 61 percent at the same point in time,” the statement read. “And, Xbox 360 continues to grow its install base with 114,000 units sold in February in the U.S. in its 100th month on the market in the U.S., more than any other seventh generation console."

Microsoft also revealed some impressive sales figures – more than 772,000 Xbox One games sold in February, while 2.46 million Xbox 360 games also flew off shelves. The combined sales figures made up for 48 percent of the total software market share. The Xbox One is also averaging 2.75 games sold per console. The Xbox One and Xbox 360 sold more hardware than any other home console platform and was accountable for 43 percent of the home console market share in the US"

the next few months sales figures should be interesting for the board to see, to say the least. MS/Xbox One seem to be really carrying some momentum onward. especially since the release Titanfall and it being rumored to have given the system a sales boost as well. with the games already announce 2014 games, and E3 right around the corner, things are looking good for them.

i was sure the price difference and damage would affect things for them early in the gen. but i also felt that it all could be turned around gradually by releasing a system with more, and better features...as well as a better selection of high profile games. seems to be doing just that...just quicker than i thought it would.

only the beginning of the video discusses the thread topic but i'm adding it for those who didn't feel like reading the article.

No they aren't lol. There is nothing "record breaking" about the pace their setting. Surely you know why that's the case.

They are really not closing in on the PS4. They'll get a boost from Titanfall, but even in NA the PS4 is continually outselling the Xbox One. That extra $100 is killer and a single, multiplayer only title isn't enough to convince people that price difference is worth it.

@tymeservesfate:

In order for MS to be "closing in", they would need to outsell Sony for a month first. The gap is still widening every month, maybe not as big of a gap last month in NA, but Sony still sold more hence they didn't close in even 1 unit.

The gap was always going to close I dont know why people actually thought MS were going to "fail". The reason the PS4 sold like crazy was because it was substantially cheaper. Contrary to cow belief 1080p doesn't shift hardware. A constant stream of software certainly does however :P

Lol, here comes the Cow herd to damn any positive Xbox talk :) But MS is likely at 4 million sold now, and hopefully the uptick in sales from the price drops show them a worldwide price drop will help them more than any one game ever could. But Titanfall has helped alot.

I doubt it will close in significantly. That being said, I expect both systems to sell well in this generation.

For god's sake, the DS4 is outselling the titanfall bundle AND titanfall the game.

It's gameover for MS. They've lost so much money this gen just trying to stay in the race that corporate execs aren't going to see a reason to keep Xbox* around any longer.

If Xflop outsells the PS4 worldwide for a single month this entire generation I will be shocked. The gap is never going to stop increasing...it is only a matter of how much.

To any lemming who wishes to answer...how can the gap ever close when Xflop is outsold every single week worldwide? It is impossible.

Xflop could be cheaper in Europe and it still wouldn't matter. PS3 proved that...US and UK(US Jr) are the only markets Xflop is relevant in.

At the same price PS4 is objectively better from a hardware perspective. Kinect has NO value to many people(ie it is unlplugged by people who did by Xflop).

4 million sales (my guess by now) in 13 markets in 4 months is far from a flop, lol. All MS needs is a worldwide launch, price drop of $100, and keep those compelling games coming. The One will do just fine.

"Closing the gap" would imply that the Xbox One has actually outsold the Playstation 4 for a month.

Since this hasn't happened yet, the gap between them is in fact, widening, not closing.

See @tymeservesfate: and you get mad when people call you out on your bullsh**,and star accusing people of fallowing you..

Please show how is MS closing in on sony in consoles sold, when the PS4 outsold the xbox one in NPD,and world wide is not even close.

Selling less you don't win..

@Chutebox said:

Not only the PS4 sold more on its first February, but so did the PS2 and the Wii as well, the only systems that didn't were the xbox 360 which was supply constrained because of yield issues and sold 160k and the PS3 which was $600 and sold 127k.

You can see how dishonest MS is and how they always find a way to spin those sales.

How the hell is MS at 4 million.?

They sold 3 by the end of 2013.

They sold 200k world wide on Jannuary and like 350k (with luck) on February,by the end of February they were like 3.55 millions, and march is not over.

Now 4 million shipped yeah i believe that but sold to consumer i don't think so,they are probably like half a million away.

Your crystal ball, that after 4 months and the One having not evenb launched worldwide, before either console has a price drop, allows you to see the future already reeks of naivety, blatant fanboyism, and not a shred of historical knowledge on the launch of anything ever. 4 months isn't enough time to make anything resembling a long-term prediction. PS3 took 2 years, a price drop, and great games to take off. MS will be just fine and do the exact same thing. Will it let them catch and pass the PS4, I don't know. But price drops and compelling software will eventually tell the tale of the Ones future, but nothing is set in stone after 4 months. It just doesn't work that way.

You are talking possibilities. I am talking about the PS4 being cheaper, having better hardware and has significantly more brand appeal outside the US. Which one of us more likely to be correct? I don't even think you believe Xflop can actually post better worldwide numbers. It would only be possible by completely dominating the US again and that dream is long over.

"In what probably isn't the most surprising news you'll read all year, Titanfall's launch in the UK on Friday has shot the Xbox One hardware full of vim and vigour. UKIE reports that weekly sales are up a staggering 96 per cent, with sales of the £399.99 Titanfall bundle accounting for 70 per cent of this figure"

-

"According to UKIE, Titanfall "more than doubles the sales of what had been 2014's current leader FIFA 14, which until now had delivered the highest sales for an All Formats No1 back in Week 1 of this year."

after recent news i don't see how anyone can say how the gap is widening. at least right now, if anything.

It tells me they aren't "closing in" but still falling further behind in total sales. Your thread title says CLOSING IN which is 100% false at this moment. Personally, I hope both consoles sell neck and neck as it benefits us the gamers, however, your topic title is misleading and false and screams desperation.

The current gap is at least two million units. Until the Xbox One actually outsells the Playstation 4, that gap will widen, and not close.

This really shouldn't be that difficult to understand.

No doubt...........Resogun and Sound Shapes sold a ton of PauperStations since November. Imagine how many consoles Sony would have sold without those heavy hitters.

Just to let you know, that sounded more than a little bit bitter.

the only reason sales are so high is because of the huge amount of defective units. people go back and get new ones for free. and MS probably counts that as a sale.

My friends dad has gone through no less than 3 Xbox ones. all of them defective. the first two the kinect sensor failed to work at all. despite being plugged in properly it would work for a few minutes then the xbox would report that there was no kinect sensor connected at all. the 3rd one was the recently release titanfall xbox. the funny thing is the kinect actually worked on that xbox but the controller would not pair at all. so far 1 man has had 3 defective units. how many have others had?

after recent news i don't see how anyone can say how the gap is widening, if anything.

It tells me they aren't "closing in" but still falling further behind in total sales. Your thread title says CLOSING IN which is 100% false at this moment. Personally, I hope both consoles sell neck and neck as it benefits us the gamers, however, your topic title is misleading and false and screams desperation.

not my title, that's the author's title of the linked article. so, talk to her. and what do you think the term closing in means exactly?

The current gap is at least two million units. Until the Xbox One actually outsells the Playstation 4, that gap will widen, and not close.

This really shouldn't be that difficult to understand.

how would you know what the current sales numbers are? we as a whole havent heard what the current numbers are in a month or more. i mean, is there a link saying this claim of yours that you can share...or something?

I doubt it will close in significantly. That being said, I expect both systems to sell well in this generation.

And that really is the truth, imo. PS is the world wide favorite, have a longer history and brand recognition and loyalty around the world. This announcement is for US sales. I'm glad some americans support it. But don't deny yourself great games just because they're not on a certain console, providing you can afford it.

Actually looks like PS4 likely still held the UK even despite the boost Titanfall gave the Xbone. Sucks for XBox fanboys playing sales.

@tymeservesfate: Is there any link you or the "author" can share? The only thing she/he is saying is MS isn't getting beat every month as bad as they used to. That isn't gaining.

The games are what make the console. Price is great in the short term and a terrible reason to buy something in the long term.

That's why the PS4 has a 2mil lead. :)

No doubt...........Resogun and Sound Shapes sold a ton of PauperStations since November. Imagine how many consoles Sony would have sold without those heavy hitters.

Have fun Kuu2 bby <3

Please don't start this, again. Sony announced they hit 6 million units as of the beginning of March. That was announced.

Microsoft announced 3 million units by the end of 2013. We know their NPD numbers for both January and February, and we know what the ratio of consoles sold in NA is compared to the rest of the world. From that we can extrapolate that they hadn't yet hit 4M by the beginning of March.

They may have hit 4 million units by now, but they've either chosen not to announce it or they haven't hit it yet.

They are really not closing in on the PS4. They'll get a boost from Titanfall, but even in NA the PS4 is continually outselling the Xbox One. That extra $100 is killer and a single, multiplayer only title isn't enough to convince people that price difference is worth it.

I have actually seen topics on here stating that Titanfall will make the X1 outsell the PS4. Lol

It will help a little for a little while in N. A. only. As N.A. seems to work that way with Xbox.

Microsoft is improving monthly by leaps and bounds. More people are seeing that THE ONE is the place to game.

then write her and correct her man, lol. all i did was copy and paste the title. and i'm only doing that now because you guys whine about me making misleading titles. i copied and pasted the title, a couple quotes, and wrote a short, non-flamebaiting, comment. and people are still crying at me instead of talking about the subject, GOODLORD lol.

there's also this. it's not totally getting slaughter in the UK at least. that's one positive at positive for them. but like you two said, there's a lot counting against them, and it all remains to be seen.
