[QUOTE="SecretPolice"]It's all a matter of prospective my friend as I just sorta apologized adding the following info. : sometimes posts & posters go to far about the 360 platform which, just like in real life, I respond too only in SW - it's just for fun and frankly if PS3 can deliver the gaming goods this year I will be all over it. :)SpruceCaboose

I would argue that the PS3 has already delivered many gaming goods, and it only looks to improve upon that soon.

I hear ya but only to a point.

Having the 360's library of games and especially over the last 8 months or so, I can't think of a game on PS3 that would tear me away from Lost Odyssey right now but to be fair I guess, I have all but stopped playing my other 360 games like M.E. and Halo 3 so umm yeah. :)

if sony could then ms could of. sony delayed the ps3 just so it could have blu-ray, i believe.... and it worked out for them. ms could of delayed the launch and put in hd-dvd.

SpruceCaboose

MS launched the 360 in November of 2005. The first commercial HD-DVD players hit almost a year later. By delaying the 360 by a year, and raising the price by at least $200 (Probably more) to incorporate a technology that would assuredly be locked into a format war, MS would have effectively been committing market suicide with the 360.

Believe it or not, price is a major issue in consoles, and is the main reason, IMO, that the PS3 has had a rather rocky start to its generation.

i totally agree with that point, maybe something that factored into the decision was that the xbox hadn't been a profitable division yet for MS, so to gamble by adding such expensive technology and delay the console was something MS couldnt take a chance on, Sony on the other hand having dominated the past 10 years could've risked something like this in their 3rd generation of consoles, now they are paying for it by trailing in the console race all to win the HD format war.

are people really convinced HD-DVD would have won if ms released the 360 with an HD-DVD drive? i don't see why that is a foregone conclusion. what are people basing that on? if the 360 had launched later than it did and cost $200 more than it did, it likely wouldn't have sold very well at all. look at how well the ps2 sold and look at the crappy start the ps3 has had due to price. the XBOX didn' t have nearly the fanbase the ps2 had and had little momentum coming into this generation.

It's funny when fanboys don't clarify their posts. Microsoft is supporting it... duh. However, it's not supporting it on the 360. Hence, this thread is almost not even for System Wars. What did people think would happen?

Here's a question for you all. How much would the RROD have cost MS had the HD-DVD drives been built in to all 360's since day 1? They probably saved a bundle by having it external.

Imagine how bad it would be for Sony had they gone through a similar issue as the DRE with the PS3. Eewwwwwwww.

This thread is full of all kinds of "What ifs?" so I figured I'd toss a few out.

Microsoft Will Support Blu-Ray, But Not with Xbox 360, For Now

gundamdragonque

That's crazy!! They told X360 owners if Blu-ray won they would offer that option.

This is worthy of it's own thread actually.

actually its fanboyish when people make claims in their topics or posts without actually stating any facts, I posted an article and stated exactly what the article states, assuming anything beyond that is pure speculation and the way things are going, it's only a matter of time before MS incoporates Blu Ray to the 360 in my opinion

Thank you. I didn't think that anyone was willing to use logic to look at the situation. I appreciate that.

Your main topic contains nothing but the link. Your topic title is instead vague, as it refers to Microsoft. Given this is System Wars, it is very easy for people to deduce that you are claiming that your article confirms that Bluray is coming to the 360. Which is what many in this thread have done.

I'm sure you didn't mean to do it. However, can you please update your original post.

I applaud MS's decision of abandoning this HD-DVD nonsense but I'm afraid is too late for them.

So much for "BluRay is unecessary".

Agree.

Nah - I got one for under 50 bucks and the HD-DVD movies look great !

I know, I know - just joking around but I did buy it and for now at the fire sale price for both the player and the movies; it's a sweet deal.

Maybe its just me, but I would just buy a real Blu-Ray player, not a 360 add-on, that would make more since, they will both be around the same price.

You do realise that Microsoft is a software GIANT. They have this little OS called Windows that is supposed to support all sort of new technology, one of which is Blu-ray.

Good luck on your crusade, trying to prove Blu-ray is necessary for gaming :-D

What would suck is if they ever make Blu-Ray Xbox 360 games.

i have a hdtv and wont use it for movies till 2009.

by then i can pick up a bly ray player for $120.

Newsboy

Well, if Microsoft would have put an HD-DVD drive in the Xbox 360, do you think Blu-Ray would have won? Of course not. HD-DVD would be the winner by now and you would be enjoying HD movies already. Instead they greedily offered an add-on drive as a way to milk consumers. This half-way support is what doomed HD-DVD as a format.

the hd dvd addon wasn't to milk customers, it was to prolong the format war until digital distribution was ready. hd dvd wasn't finalized when the 360 was released so it couldn't have had an internal hd dvd drive unless they wanted to delay the 360.

it is unnecessary for games. this will not be used for 360 games, only for playing blu ray movies.

It really was a bad choice of not including HD-DVD as a main drive for X-box 360 because with that idea they could've won the format war but I guess MS just wanted a cheaper console or didn't really care enough about HD-DVD.

Wouldnt it be Impossible for MS to make a 360 that had Blu-Ray built in since their games are on DVD 9s and not Blu-Rays? Can a Blu-Ray drive play DVD 9 games?

well its as simple as this i was going to buy a ps3, this year for the blueray player. know that i now microsoft might come out with a external one i will jump on that instead.i would rather by a 360 blueray add on than a game system i dont realy want. if microsoft makes a add on it will hurt ps3 sales. i dont see why some of you guys think the 360 will need a internal blueray drive for. its not necessary to go down that route look at the WII they could careless about blueray games

Uh... buying a PS3 is cool if you want the games it has, but it's more cost-effective to shell out for the drive if you only want the Blu-Ray support.
