Right now you get better value and bang for your buck buying a PS3 over the Elite. The problem for Sony is that it might have overtake the 360 in sales for about the same amount of time that the 360 overtook the PS3 when it had its price drop. This wont change the fact the 360 owners buy more games on their system, and multiplats will continue to sell better on the 360. So I do see a shift in sales for the upcoming months, but nothing that will make up the 8 million console difference that currently exists, and you can bet that MS willl counter with another price drop and this will be the trend. Its a little too late IMO for SONY, I think they should of acted more swiftly to overtake the 360. I find it comical that people think the PS3 slim is going to compete against the Wii, which far and away won this gen hands down and will not be overtaken by either MS or SONY. So basically its good news for the consumers, but status QUO for the big boys.

agreed. right now, PS3 offers more value than the 360 at that price point. I'm pretty sure Sony's priority right now, is to make profit, seeing as they've been posting losses. sure sales might pick up a bit, it might overtake 360 quite a bit in Europe(especially when GT5 launches) and Japan. but it will never catch up to 360 in US, we all know why. as for me, I could care less, as long as good games keep coming to PS3, I'm happy, and so far, Sony's line up is looking very impressive both for PS3 and PSP.

I agree with your thread title. as for your post...it can be debated(i wont). it seems like every time theres a price drop its "oh noes, teh (MS/SONY) is doomzorz." it gets really out of hand. i want ms and sony to survive as long as possible so they can continue copying eachother (and ninty) thus making my prefered console(ps3) that much better.

I agree, but best of all, the consumer wins. 3 great systems and all affordable at the moment.

I agree though I only have a wii it's good to hopefully see Sony make a profit and thus make all company's last until next gen....and then fan boys will battle all over again -sigh-

The profit comes from software sales more than hardware sales. This has been always the case. Personally, I do not want either sony or MS to win. More competition makes everything better and cheaper for the consumers. There is no need to be a fan-boy. But, I really wish MS does make some change for xbox 360 like adding an wifi, and super drive.
