things are shaping up nicely

Most of the stats revealed in the presentation tie in closely with the white papers describing beta "Durango" hardware, previously revealed in the SuperDaE leaks, though there are some interesting new additions, such as a 30GB/s link from the CPU to the DDR3 RAM. In contrast, PlayStation 4 is believed to have 20GB/s access to the 8GB of GDDR5, while the graphics hardware has the full 176GB/s bandwidth available. We also see that the 32MB of ESRAM (embedded static RAM) used by Xbox One for accelerated GPU processing is actually a cluster of four 8MB modules, each with a 256-bit bus, operating in parallel to facilitate its wide bandwidth.

Since the GPU does most of the work on consoles, wouldn't this article just be confirming how powerful the PS4 is? It's says right there that the PS4 has 176GB/s of bandwidth between the GPU and the GDDR5 RAM. That's way more important than the the CPU to RAM bandwidth. They've confirmed the obvious- that the PS4 is powerful without having to do all the tricks and off-loading that the XB1 does. The XB1 has extra hardware in it to compensate for it's shortcomings, yet it still doesn't approach the PS4s potential.

So basically both consoles are pretty even in terms of power and games will look similar on both consoles, just like this gen... With some games looking slightly better on one or the other. Case closed.

Kaz_Son

Not really. PS4 still has a significant advantage in GPU and RAM. CPU boost of 9% doesn't mean shit since CPU doesn't really handle tasks like graphics. The difference in power between the PS4 and XBone will be noticeable.

Not with back writes i.e.for PS4's read and back writes 176 GB/s could reduce down to 88GB/s per direction. X1's ESRAM supports 204 GB/s which equates to 102 GB/s per direction.

Back writes = writing the results back to memory.

Certain people would cite 7770's results, but they have forgotten 7770 or 7790's L2 cache bandwidth I/O can only do 119 GB/s with 72 GB/s or 96 GB/s external memory bandwidth.

The prototype 7850 with 768 stream processors has L2 cache bandwidth I/O can do 205 GB/s with 153.6 GB/s external memory bandwidth.

From http://www.edge-online.com/news/gaijin-games-on-why-war-thunder-isnt-coming-to-xbox-one/

How much more powerful?

AY: It depends what youre doing. GPU, like 40 per cent more powerful. DDR5 is basically 50 per cent more powerful than DDR3, but the memory write [performance] is bigger on Xbox One so it depends on what youre doing.

How is that going to translate to on-screen results for the kinds of games you want to make? So to optimise War Thunder on both consoles you could hypothetically make a better, prettier version on PS4?

AY: Yep.

KY: Probably yes. But again, thats not a very big deal.

---

PS4's GPU is 40 percent stronger, but X1 has faster memory write preformance i.e. writing results into memory.

Carmack on next-gen console hardware: 'very close,' 'very good'

http://gamingbolt.com/ubisoft-explains-the-difference-between-ps4-and-xbox-one-versions-of-watch_dogs

"Of course, the Xbox One isnt to be counted out. We asked Guay how the Xbox One version of Watch_Dogs would be different compared to the PC and PS4 versions of the game, to which he replied that, The Xbox One is a powerful platform, as of now we do not foresee a major difference in on screen result between the PS4 and the Xbox One. Obviously since we are still working on pushing the game on these new consoles, we are still doing R&D."

----

link

"We're still very much in the R&D period, that's what I call it, because the hardware is still new," Guay answered. "It's obvious to us that its going to take a little while before we can get to the full power of those machines and harness everything. But, even now we realise that both of them have comparable power, and for us thats good, but everyday it changes almost. Were pushing it and were going to continue doing that until [Watch Dogs] ship date."

http://www.videogamer.com/news/xbox_one_and_ps4_have_no_advantage_over_the_other_says_redlynx.html

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at E3, Ilvessuo said: " Obviously we have been developing this game for a while and you can see the comparisons. I would say if you know how to use the platform they are both very powerful. I don't see a benefit over the other with any of the consoles."

----

http://www.videogamer.com/xboxone/metal_gear_solid_5_the_phantom_pain/news/ps4_and_xbox_one_power_difference_is_minimal_says_kojima.html

"The difference is small, and I don't really need to worry about it," he said, suggesting versions for Xbox One and PS4 won't be dramatically different.

Nope! PS4 150% higher GPU power. The rest is practically the same. PS4 > X1.

FoxbatAlpha

On CU front, PS4 has 40 percent more power than X1.

X1 has greater GPU memory write performance.

As for PS4's GPU+MEM vs X1's GPU+MEM1+MEM2, it depends on the workload type.

Show me gameplay that looks 40% better.

At the same settings, 40 precent more power is like 43 fps vs 60 fps.

Nice try but wrong. Unlike last gen, architecture of both consoles is very similar so it is easy to compare them and PS4 is the more powerful machine. No game will look "slightly better" on X1, because it is weaker. All multiplats will look either same on both consoles if devs choose to forfeit the extra power of PS4, or better on PS4 (higher resolution, better effects, etc.)

It's no rocket science.

Yet the experts are saying its pretty close. Really comes down to the games and how well they are made for each machine. The extra power will be minimal and developers wont put the effort in (and expense) to make user of them. Just like every other generation.

[QUOTE="tsgamer82"]Lets all be honest here, Im getting both systems because im a gamer and not a fanboy, but in reality the the multi plats are going to be play and feel the same with 2 big differences, they will look a little better on the PS4, but will have better online play one the XBone as they better online with all their servers and Xbox Live, but again I will get to enjoy all the exclusives un like the fanboys. the only systems I currently do not play are Wii u and PC, not that the PC is bad, its great, and well....the Wii U Sucks but the PC is good lolstayhigh1
PSN is the next xboxlive..what will they have that will be better??

Could be but Sony said that with the launch of PS3 and than PSN plus but it was no where close to Xbox Live, Plus the PS4 wont have even half the servers as the XBone so from a lag in games stand point XBone will be better for online gamers, but it don't matter to me as again I will have BOTH, no need to be defensive lol
