It looks interesting but no way in hell will it work as advertised. I really dont think the tech is there yet and if it is then its not possoble to make it affordable yet

People already demoed it at the show and people working on GTAV have used it. Their responses were overwhelming.

i will wait till gs reviews. they have been on point recently with psnow and 2014 console reviews.

I work in the education sector and could see this really useful in motivating and educating kids in the classroom.

I think it comes down to if the technology can actually deliver what they are showing. It will one day, just wonder if this is it. If it is and its priced right then game on.

That depends entirely on one thing - PORN.

Give people the ability to have their living room turned into a GTA strip club or a Greco-Roman orgy and everyone will want one.

Porn gave VHS the edge in the VHS-Betamax format war, it can do it here.

HD-DVD of this gen.

MS has no sense of technology.

Except it the opposite.

What you are searching for is VR not AR.

Holographic technology like this could be cool in the future, but I would prefer if they could come up with a projection system instead of glasses. So that every one can see what you are doing in a room from different angles. Not sure how they would achieve it, but that would be the best outcome for this technology.

What an insane piece of technology. Just imagine the uses in games !

This is definitely a game changer. But it'll take years before we get something like in the tech video. And many more years after that before devs start using it. But I'm definitely interested.

They have been working on that for many years now. Not happening at the moment.

Their PR and marketing folks need help. Hololens? It's as difficult and cumbersome to say as Illumiroom.

Real-life minecraft may be incredible, though...

I don't think it is too bad, it at least gives you a good idea of what the product is by just hearing the name. You expect it to be a lens that gives you a holographic experience, and that is exactly what it is.

Illumiroom makes no sense though, as that sound like some type of new lighting fixture that you can buy. Like those Philips LED lamps that change colour.

It isn't a great name but it isn't Ouya, Wii or iPod bad.

Actually when I hear "Hololens" all I think is "Hollow-Lens" and it's difficult to say in general.

Looks good, but i wont say anymore until i see it with my own eyes. So far, i'd rather have Sony's oculus rift for gaming, specially FPS one's, but I might use Microsofts hologram for other games that involve building and controlling large armies. I like holograms and eye visors, but i'd use them for different things. I'm not a big fan using a controller for building, i tend to use a mouse and keyboard, but what the guy did in the video with Minecraft would be a lot easier, assuming it actually works in the real world lol

This is not the silly Xbox division pooping out PR to console gamers who believe everything they're told, so I wouldn't exactly apply the same expectations.

Business service & software is Microsoft's biggest and most profitable (~20 times Xbox division in 2014) branch. If it's as well thought out as recent projects like Office 365, then I have pretty high expectations for this AR tech.

I always have these doubts with any new tech that gets created. I have the same doubts for VR, which includes Project Morpheus. It may not be Xbone division directly but their last huge venture was Kinect and still had the balls to market that device as a 1:1 experience which it definitely wasn't.

kinect 2.0 incoming. Lems never learn, never stop hyping.

Weren't you hyping this garbage? Move failed harder than a bomb and you need it for Morpheus? ROFLMMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Kinect 2.0 was already here a year ago. FYI.

As always you are wrong, i never hype anything vr/kinect/illumiroom related because they are nothing more than gimmicks- but keep trying to hype kinect 3.0

Really? how the hell do you know he's wrong? this had not been released yet so why don't you wait and see instead of being an insufferable know-it-all who thinks they can see into the future and accurately predict 100% what is going to happen.

And hes right about one thing, compared to Kinect, MOVE really did fail like a bomb

The nice thing about this is that it can live along side VR tech as a separate entertainment device with different types of entertainment. VR lets you be immersed in a fully created world where as this lets you augment games and other entertainment mixed with your current surroundings.

PS - Why is this GS site always terrible with Chrome browser? Almost unusable on some threads.

Live demonstration of Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality tech:

Loading Video...

However, I remember Nintendo doing augmented reality with the 3DS back in 2011. Nevertheless, Microsoft's HoloLens is definitely a big improvement over previous augmented reality efforts. It looks like it's coming a lot closer to the augmented reality world we see in the Accel World anime.

Apparently Microsoft has plans to bring HoloLens to developers by Spring. This means we can expect it holiday 2015 or somewhere in 2016, faster than I thought

Looks cool, yet MS is always very optimistic with its new ideas .... Kinect was announced years ago and got a 2nd iteration and yet, it's no where as it was advertised to be ... the tech. is there but it needs more time to make an impact.

I like how people forgot the live demos before Kinect released had the same problems everyone else had when it came out. This live demo actually worked.
