"IllumiRoom envisions a next-generation gaming console with a projector that sits on your coffee table and surrounds your television with projected light,"
"The LED is projecting for a frame and then turning it off and Kinect IR is reading those layovers," said Rudder. "Then the Kinect turns off for a frame and then the projector goes on and then Kinect will go back and forth." Rudder described the technology as "incredibly sophisticated," but that the experience is "oh, my TV got bigger, and I can project on anything because the surface doesn't need to be flat."Holy crap, they managed to out-gimmick Nintendo.

[QUOTE="mems_1224"]Doesnt sound nearly as bad as the forced touchpad gimmick every game on PS4 is going to have. tormentosYeah because having a touch pad on a console that will have an internet navigator is a bad thing, how about scrolling through apps... By the way is this standard or just another useless add on like Kinect or the PS3 Eye.? Because every PS4 controller has one which mean standard, know how MS love to over price crap, and knowing that projectors aren't dirt cheap,it should be interesting to know what MS demand for this, can already see it $199 and 2 free months of xbox live. So scrolling through apps with a touchpad is good but using voice commands to open apps is bad?

this is old concep shown long ago by microsoft,. this is prodcut relation re-release of concept.
bring kinect up is no good, bcause that didnt go well for all gamers. many have kinect & boxed it or use it for menus only. illimiroom concept is nice, but seems fps intensive, expensive, & not get alot aaa suport like kinect.

A coffee table requirement is pretty damn bad, and don't forget mandatory Kinect.
And because every PS3 game ever launched had Sixaxis functions, too. Would hate to go through that again.Looks pretty cool, but I imagine this would get to be pretty inconvenient. Looks like a cool tech demo I would show friends, but not really use myself gaming alone.

This is just...just dumb
It's like they've never heard of a beamer with an HDMI-input before...cue the $750 propiatary microsoft beamer...and call it IllumiRoom.
They will gobble it up like when they payed $150 for a 1.3 MegaPixel camera.

I wonder if the Oculus Rift was inspired by:
Â
That was a great game. Would have been better if I knew what I had to do.
Â
Anyway back on topic - looks a little gimmicky, but could be fun if it was easy to set up. Not sure why people would critisise it tbh (if people don't have or have space for a cofee table all well and good, but it seems a little silly to critise a projector for needing somewhere to actually put it).

Its still a dumb gimmick. Would be cool for movies maybe, or something else.
When I play console games I'm on my knees a foot in front of the tv, so this wouldn't work for me.
[QUOTE="mems_1224"]Cry more You're an idiot incapable of countering most arguments and anytime someone brings it up to you they're crying or they're butthurt or they cause you post another stupid gif, you dumb shit. I can see it working in limited areas. Think about playing a version of either X-Wing or TIE Fighter where the TV is the cockpit window and the surrounding area is the stars zooming by and maybe in a game where you character is running in a blizzard with snow falling around you...Would be cool for movies maybe, or something else.

it sounds interesting. Â haters gonna hate but as a pure gamer i'm intrigued to see how this will work. Â At least MS is trying something different besides more horse power.

I never said it did.[QUOTE="silversix_"]Why should we care if Oculus Rift will be the standard in couple of years?mems_1224:lol: Oculus rift is just another gimmick. It will never be the standard. And this isn't a gimmick? I'd rather have fully immersive 3D gaming with a giant FOV than lasers pow powing on my wall. Oh yeah, that's ignoring that I can use an Oculus Rift on pretty much any gaming setup, whereas this won't actually work on mine, and many other peoples-just like Kinect, because not everyone designs their rooms to incorporate stupid gimmicks that require 10 feet of open space to work.

You realize that Illumiroom has been shown with games, therefore invalidating your point, right? Or, rather, example games.
