....because Microsoft has nothing to show for their current systems and hasn't for awhile now. Sony still has two big games coming (Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima) that are arguably both GotY contenders.

Sony still has a leg in the race for the current gen, so why would they not be focused in the now and not the future just quite yet? I think if everyone is patient a little longer you'll start hearing about the PS5 this summer.

I would rather they just start talking about the PS5 and what it's bringing to the table

I am excited to see what happens and they need to say something too with all the dozens of game rumors that have been floating around. Like today I heard for the first time about a Jak and Daxter game for PS5??

They're starting next-gen around the same time... We've simply had less info from Sony.

Good thread!

Obviously. But Microsoft has been eager to release information whereas Sony has said next to nothing about next gen simply because they still have current gen games to focus on.

TLoU2 went Gold and GoT can't be too far behind, unless this pandemic seriously limits the last crunch. MS are playing the market, and there's no arguing they've done solid this time.

What you are stipulating is purely speculation. Do you think Sony consists of two developers, who are intricate to a next-gen reveal? Do you feel these devs haven't shifted focus to the PS5?

I am saying the marketing and focus will be on their current gen games coming out. Last gen Sony had games caught in the crossfire between PS4 and PS5 and they suffered sales wise from it. Obviously these games are coming out a little sooner than those games did in 2013 but still.

Sony's gaming division is huge, and yet the focus of your thread is that they are being held up embellishing upon next-gen due to a few games. Sony got crunched and released a GDC PS5 reveal as a worldwide consumer reveal. As much as I love Sony, it was a shit-show.

At the end of the day, Sony screwed the pooch this time around. They can well come out and clinch this gen, but stop making excuses.

You're being unfair. Boobiesoft gave up back in 2017. The console war ended there. Of course they want to start the next gen, it's like when you need to fart - can't hold it so you can't wait to get home.

Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch are busy with their current gen games about to release. Media Molecule also just released Dreams back in February. Bend just released a game in 2019 (Days Gone). Pixelopus also late last year (Concrete Genie).

We probably know what Insomniac (Spider-Man 2) and Santa Monica (God of War sequel) are up to. Guerrilla Games are rumored to be working on multiple projects (Horizon Zero Dawn sequel, SOCOM, Killzone)

That leaves San Diego, Polyphony Digital and Sony Japan.

I’m not a playstation customer so I don’t care about current or upcoming titles this gen, but I would like to see something about what they’re doing next gen. So far all we know is that they have weak hardware - comparatively. Really sony? That’s what you want us to think presently?

All of this is contingent on the idea that Sony micromanages developers. That's my takeaway, at the very least. Things like marketing are handled ahead of release, and may need touch-ups going forward. If what you say is true, Sony aren't saying anything, because they're too busy micro-managing developers as they're currently dealing with a few game releases... What?

The problem with sony is they have this habbit of saying what they will do with their consoles. They make you think it will be at console launch that your system you bought will do all these things, but instead, it takes them around 4 years or more to finally see them patching the console to do the things people want. And sometimes the stuff just dont work that good.

Microsoft lacks exclusives and first party studios which they really need.

For me at least and it will sound crazy, but i really dont care much for Sony first party titles. The last of Us doesn’t interest me in the least. I like Microsoft exclusives, but the games i really enjoy the most are from 3rd party developers.

Well actually Microsoft still has plenty in store for this gen as well since their stuff is going to be cross gen for a couple of years. Halo Infinite is a very big title of theirs.

The reason Sony has gone dark on the poos5 is because they are trying to milk the shit outta the cows with its last 2 first party games for the poos4.

Once they are out and people have payed for them, well then they will shift to milking cows with info for the poos5 LOL.

This generation should have ended in 2018, and TLOU2, FF7R and GoT should have been ps5 titles. Every game coming out runs poorly and has graphical issues (poor textures, poor AF, poor AA, washedout af, etc). I can't believe some people are still saying that they're perfectly fine with current gen systems for the next 2-5 years, like what is wrong with you???

Really? Seems to me, the only thing Sony hasn't done is shown what it looks like.

We've seen the controller, full specs and we've been told more about ssds than we thought we wanted to know.

yeah instead of having series x games at launch you guys finally get last gen games instead I guess its good you guys finally get good game after the current gen is over. how about Microsoft release halo on xbox one and the port to the series x and have a series x only game. Let me ask you. Have you ever bought a next gen machine to play games that are on the last gen machine or have you bought a next gen machine to play next gen games? no right you always bought next gen machines to play last gen ports for 2 years into its life.

they held back halo so they can make it look like a series x launch game when in fact was meant to be a xbox one game.

fact is xbox one will finally get new first party games after next gen releases. at least sony has ps4 games coming before the next gen starts then you will see ps5 only made games. good luck xbox fans with that slow ass hdd in there last gen system holding back the seires x games.

lol you will have third party games made only for next gen look better than your first party cross gen game for the next 2 years.

yes they do xbox only showed this much of next gen because there is nothing to show.

sony mean while likes to wait last min. microsoft has already showed most of there cards. what will happen sony will wait and take the series x thunder away by showing off first party games that are made only for the ps5 without having the ps4 hdd holding them back.

look at that tech demo that alone made people say im getting the ps 5 without even seeing the system yet.

hell it can look like a gorge forman grill again and i would still get it just because of sony first party.

But on topic. For launch, the Xbox One will receive a version of the new launch exclusives as well and when you upgrade your console to the XSX, updated versions will be available for free. Seems cool to me.

Fun fact, most mutiplats launch on previous hardware around new hardware launch. How is that a problem?

Yes, Sony isn't done with the current generation but, I don't think that's the reason why they've been quite.

They just aren't ready to blow the lid on PS5 until they've nailed down their transition plan.

A successful transition of the PS4 user base to PS5 is Sony's #1 priority. And if they do it well, they'll continue to crush it.

Ex.

- All of the top 100 played games of the last 24 months are playable AND upgraded on PS5 (+ many PS4 exclusives).

- The rest of the PS4 library should at the very least be playable on PS5.

- Offer limited edition / exclusive bonus content for the top F2P games to PS4 and PS5 owners.

- Continue to provide premium content up on PSN+ and PS NOW.

PSN+ has built up quite the library of games you could have added to your library with a press of a button over the past few years.

Ex. COD: WW2 (this week), Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, DiRT Rally 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Bioshock: The Collection, Titanfall 2, Nioh, Outlast 2, The Last of Us Remastered, Batman Arkham Knight, Detroit: Become Human, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, For Honor, Hitman, ONRUSH, Bulletstorm, Destiny 2, God of War III: Remastered, Dead by Daylight, Mafia 3, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, Bloodborne etc.

^ All of these games are in my digital library.

If you're a PSN+ subscriber, it should be a no-brainer to upgrade to PS5.

^^^ All of this is the story Sony needs to tell.

Fun fact, most mutiplats launch on previous hardware around new hardware launch. How is that a problem?

because there is always at least a few games that are made for next gen consoles. first party should never cross gen there games unless its a last gen game ported over to next gen. multiplats yes are cross gen but once your first party goes that way as well there is a problem. Microsoft only cares about gamepass numbers which is a good thing but they don't care if that appeals for next gen buyers or not. i hope its free to upgrade because if your paying for next gen ports and paying for gamepass then that would suck even more just to play the same game that is meant to be played on last gen console. thats like paying for backwards compatible. its like the series x is a super powerful mid gen upgrade.

not one of sony first party games will be for the ps4 and ps5. we all can see that developing with just the ssd in mind changes the way they can create next gen games. look at the tech demo. no way they can achieve that with a hdd without popups or losing textures as your moving that fast. your first party games will have popups and other things just because they have to build the game first using a hdd.

but on june 3 when they show the ps5 first party games you will see what i mean.

no im not in school. I always had a hard time when writing things. I can't spell to save my life lol but i can design a bridge or a highway or buildings as im a engineer. but don't ask me to write a essay lol.

@gifford38: You're really drinking that kool-aid huh. The PC market has had SSDs in it forever and the games have been looking great and running fine, even accounting for HDDs in the market. You seriously think that a game on the XSeX, which also has a fast SSD, will have pop-ups because the game has to be built on a HDD? Seriously???

Understand that these consoles are pretty much just dedicated gaming PCs now. More-so the XSeX than the PS4 due to backwards compatibility. Xbox is moving towards a Steam eco-system (digital downloads, huge backlog library of games) and injecting the Game Pass subscription on top of that with Xcloud being a plus. That sounds like a pretty good evolution of a console.

The PS5's path is more traditional. Focus on First Party games, spread them out and work on backwards compatibility however they can.

So if you think the XSeX is a super powerful mid-gen upgrade, what will a multi-plat on a PS5 look like to you? Multi-plats will account for the majority of games; so you're saying that most of the games on the PS5 will look like mid-gen upgrades right?

The XSeX and PS5 for all intents and purposes, will move forward as upgrades from this point on. Accept it.

Accept it.

yes games look great today but the fact is having 40x faster or 100x faster processing of data coming in and out of a gpu will be used differently. this is not just loading faster its the fact these systems can do those speeds coming in and out of there gpu at any second. how much more detail you can have in a frame by frame basis. instead of loading in 30 min of game time you can load in 15 min of game time leaving more of the gpu open to create more detail on what your seeing in that frame. but no one gets this and think that games will be made in the traditional way forever. mark was showing this to us in the deep dive but pc and xbox gamers was just not listening because its sony. watch it again and listen to what mark is saying about creating a game on a ssd instead of a hdd. i know its boring but it gives you an understanding it better.

I only said mid-gen upgrade because there first party will be making the same game on last gen tech as well even after next gen starts but i did say a super powerful mid gen upgrade. yuk no one ever buys a next gen system to play cross gen games for 2 years after the next gen system is out. maybe if the released those games before next gen and ported them over or maybe the launch titles only have cross gen games not 2 years in.

think about it are you happy that if you buy a next gen machine that there first party games will be on a last gen system for 2 years will that make you feel you got your money worth? the only next gen games will be from third parties once they got the cross gen launch games out of the way.

you telling me that cross gen games at launch look as good as the first party next gen only games?

I'd say MS is more hungry than last gen for sure. But I wouldn't confuse Sony's silence up until now for laziness.

Seriously. Do people think Sony doesn't know that games sell consoles?

@gifford38: Yea, not reading all that crap.

ok i will sum it up. yes there is always gross gen games at launch from third party. not 2 years into the next gen consoles life from your first party studios. thats called gamepass fill ins. will it make them more money yes of course but it will not appeal to the mass that want to game on a next gen console to play a next gen game.

that means any first party games being made now will not just be made for next gen it will be for last gen as well. not until they finish on what there working on now they can start to make a next gen game using only there gpu/cpu/ssd in mind until then every first party game will be on a last gen system as well.

how long does a game take to be made? years so even after they release all there games on the last gen console then they have to take another few years to create the next one.

while sony is making next gen games for the last 2 years or so because games like god of war and horizon zero dawn 2 etc. are being made with ps5 dev kits with only the ps5 gpu/cpu/ssd in mind.

can you see how long you guys will be waiting for next gen to start from your first party studios by doing this?

again Microsoft will be relying on third party for next gen games while your first party are going to be busy making cross gen games.

There's always a possibility. Seriously there is, even if small.

I doubt that's the case though.

Even though Sony had a terrible PS3 launch, they still had a lineup of launch titles. Why anyone would think Sony would just put a box out without games is beyond me. It's never gonna happen. Not for Sony, MS, or Nintendo.

Sony can fail next gen. That option is never off the table but we should at least expect them to deliver the standard offerings.
