As a gamer that concerns me. Much like Vista which was kinda rushed to the market and turned out to have poor hardware support and backwards compatibility with software has been terrible. Instead of trying to fix the problem, Microsoft is trying to cover it up with the nice and soft3 year warranty blanket and are going to risk billions of dollars doing so. In the first year and a half they lost over 1 billion dollars from the 360, and if the hardware keeps faulting out at a 30% rate, then you are looking at almost6 billion dollars down the drain for the span of the consoles life, if not more. Sony never did that considering that the PS2 was extremely faulty as well and they made attempts to fix them instead of slapping a warranty on it and paying for the repairs, although PS2 repairs were dirt cheap compared to the 360's.

I have pondered getting a 360 but knowing that at the moment, Microsoft is not willing to fix the problem, I remain hesistant on whether to buy one. Does anyone know when they are supposed to release the 65nm dye hardware for the console because I am really hoping that will help it run cooler and use less power consumption.

No, they're not. They admitted Vista is garbage (although not in those words), and they've certainly taken steps to remedy the 360 woes. I can't believe I'm defending MS :?

So which would you rather have?:

Sending your console to be replaced every 3-6 months because it broke down

or

Not having to worry about it getting replaced all the time.

I have more confidence in a company knowing that I do not need a warranty. You know, I have never bought a warranty for a Nintendo console and all of them have worked flawlessly for upwards of 10 years, even my GC works like its in mint condition even though I probably put over 5000 hours of game time into the thing. One would think that a company as rich as Microsoft would be willing to actually remedy the problem, otherwise it could hurt their fanbase and they would struggle to gain a fanbase due to lack of trust.

Uh, how are the ignoring it??? They basically said they will pay for any problem you have with your 360 for life! Sony will fight you tooth and nail over problems during the one year warranty. MS will bend over backwards for you forever. SOunds like they addressed the problems to me:D And mine hasnt had a problem since launch...

they should be doing more than bending over backwards when 30-33% of their consoles are faulty, and 3 years does not equal lifetimecoverage. Extending the warranty was basically them saying their hardware is bad, if it wasn't they could issue 30 day warrantys

Because you still have the inconvenience of having to ship it back to them, waiting for it, getting it back and possibly having it fail again. Extended warranty from the store you picked it up at is the best way to go....as long as you make sure to get a brand new replacementifthere's issues. I went to an EG Games to replace my first PS2 and they tried to give me a refurbished one. I ended thats**t right quick. lol

It shouldn't make the customer feel better by throwing extended warranty at them.Iwould thinkthey would ensure better quality in the future instead of avoiding the issue and outright telling people they're doing so. Bad move on MS's part if you ask me.
