Xbox 360 - $199

Wi Fi - $100

LIVE - $50

Extended warranty to cover your ass through the 10 years - $50

$400 right there. I add in Wi Fi because you have to be equal among consoles. The Wii and PS3 have it for free, the 360 doesn't.

Silverbond

So the 360 is cheaper than the PS3 without all those unnecessary costs?

Calling a live fee unneccesary is contradictory, considering everyone praises how MS is so advanced and better with their online.

[QUOTE="Jackopeng"] you do realise the 360 is 7million consoles ahead of the ps3 right?Silverbond

That doesn't matter. 360 had a 1 year head start. What matters is NOW, how things are selling NOW. And right NOW, the Ps3 is owning the 360 in sales.

Right NOW the 360 still has 6 million lead over the PS3...

lol nice1 "NOW"

Plenty of people use online. That's no excuse. We're talking about the average consumer, and this generation, online gaming has like it or not become the norm.

lulznub

Out of the 30 million or so 360 owners only around 10 million are on live, 10 million out of 30 isn't even close to being the norm, this is also the case with the PS3.

Sony has what, like 27 million PSN accounts set up? That's a weak ass argument right there. Another reason Ps3 is better, larger community.

You made a valid point or two in your original post, but they're drowning in claims like this.

We're still complaining about the $100 WiFi after all these years? Put it to rest, we all know. It's a rip off.

No PSN only has 17 million which includes anyone using an account for PSP, PS3, or Playstation Forums. PS3 has far less online users than 360.

yes Live costs money but like you said sony are implementing a Subscription model so this is will shockingly COST MONEY :o:o:o NO WAI!! and who said the 360 is a 10 year console btw?Jackopeng

no, you're mistaken. sonys subscription model is for things in addition to whats already free right now. sony has stated several times that the ps3 will continue to be free to play online.

Did i say they're charging for online play? :S

said? no, implied? yes !

Another huge plate of cow nonsense to sink my teeth into.

First of all, it makes absolutely no sense to imply that not having Blu-Ray screws over the consumer. Did Microsoft even have the ability to have Blu-Ray in their console? Who else is complaining about the lack of Blu-Ray besides a bunch of Sony fanboys? If you're going to say that MS is screwing over the customer, the worst way to make your point is to critisize their storage medium, a storage medium that in no way leads to any immoral practices.

Second of all, a company has the right to charge for a service that they provide. Only somebody who has an entitlement complex and thinks they are entitled to free things could say that Microsoft charging for online is screwing over the customer. Free is nice, but free is not obligatory.

Wi-Fi: Don't need it. A Ethernet cable is more reliable than Wireless for online gaming anyways. Not to mention that you'll have a much better connection & a better signal going wired.

Live: Can be more cheaper than $50 if you search good enough.

Extended warranty: 3 years to cover RROD & E74.

And the online isn't exactly "free" for both Wii & PS3 as you might think that it is. Nothing comes free.

You're reading in-between the lines. The Xbox 360 will always cost more because 1) Online fees 2) Wi Fi 3) After the 3 year warranty (these are 10 year consoles remember) You have to buy another and 4) AAA Batteries, of course you could always buy a charger pack, but oh wait that still COSTS MONEY

topgunmv

The 360= $199 & $299
PS3= $299
The 360's cheaper.

That's a crappy argument and you know it.

No. The 360's cheaper than the PS3. That's pretty straightforward.

Guys, whether you include Wi Fi or not, you need to consider. The Xbox charges for it when for the same price the PS3 gives it for free. So if you buy a 360 you are getting screwed on features. Simple as that.

"Screwed on features" in this particular context implies that all for there to be no "screwing over", all consoles must meet this ideal feature set that you've set up.That's ridiculous. Would you please find some instance of "screwing over" that is actually substantial? You're going have to do better than WiFi. It's hardly an essential feature.

Both companies only release their numbers around the end of the year, both that 10 million Live number and 17 million PSN number were released around the same time.

If the PS3 was the only console to have built in Wi Fi I wouldn't say you're getting screwed on features. But the Wii has it too. Both of those systems have free Wi Fi, internet browsers, free online play, etc. and Microsoft either doesn't have or charges you for all of those things. Yes, you are getting screwed whether you want to admit it or not. It's a fact.

All the other systems have some form of Backwards compatibility with their last gen systems should we require people to pay for a PS2 along with a PS3 because the PS3 lacks this, or should we realize that its not needed to enjoy the PS3.

Another fanboy who doesn't know what a fact is. So surprising. "Screwed over" in this context is an opinion. It is not a fact at all. Facts are measurable outside of an person's perception. "Screwed over" is only a reality to you because you percieve it that way.

And why would you use the Wii to help your argument. The Wii is missing alot of the features that the other HD systems have. Are you going to say that Nintendo is screwing people over?

And who gives a flying crap about an internet browser on a console? The Wii/PS3 web browsers are clunky garbage anyway. I'm sure 360 owners are not lamenting the lack of a garbage browsers.

As for charging for online, if you believe that a company has a right to charge for the services they provide, that can't look like a "screwing over". However, if one has an entitlement complex which leads them to believe they are entitled to free stuff, I guess that would look like screwing over. Unfortunately, a huge amount of the community here has said entitlement complex.

What the hell is that, Microsoft? $100 for Wi Fi? For the same price you get it built into the PS3. Game developers are having to make sacrifies. Take Rage for instance. On Ps3 you got one Blu Ray disc, all the content, and the best graphics on consoles. With the 360 version, you're gonna have 2-3 discs, the game will look inferior (that's a quote from the developerS) and they have said Microsoft won't allow them to have a mandatory install so if you're playing that game without installing it will look and play worse than the PS3 version.

But that's not enough, you gotta charge the consumer $50 just to play their game online. When they go buy Modern Warfare 2 for the 360, they know damn good and well they arn't getting the full game. No, they have to pay MICROSOFT $50 just to experience their game fully. When you impose these restrictions upon the consumer, and charge them to experience their game fully, you have become an insult to the gaming industry.

Did you just use mandatory installs as a plus? The only reason the mandatory installs exist is because the blu-ray drive is slow as heck. Its a crutch, not a plus.

Fanboy? I own all 3 systems. Gladly paid for the Ps3 at $400 and the Wii at $250. Won my Xbox so its cost is irrelevant when I'm concerned. To spew fanboy at me is stupid and you only look like a fool.

You say Internet Browsers are not relevant, but fact is fact. People do use them. Believe it or not sometimes other people need on your computer, and you can check most sites on Ps3. I won't comment on the Wii's because I don't have much experience with it.

You're paying Microsoft for what? What does LIVE have? Cross game voice chat? I bet 1 in 100 people use that **** and only because they don't have phones. The 360 has nothing else. A party system? Games like Uncharted 2 and Call Of Duty have integrated party systems. You're paying them because you can't realize when you're being screwed over.

Funny because if you don't install Forza 3's second disc you lose out on 25% on the game. Xbox 360/Turn 10/Arcade model fail.

You call me whatever you want, but a fanboy is someone who shows loyalty to one system. When I purchased a Wii I forfeited my title of a fanboy. So that ends your little false accusation right now.

(By the way, it's your browser, not you're browser)

Ideal feature set? The Xbox 360 was rushed out and lacks in the feature department. That's a fact. The 360 wanted a headstart and it got it, but at the price of not including all the features the Ps3 and Wii have. Now with the PS3 and 360 at the same price, you simply get more bang for your buck with the PS3 out of the box, plus there are no more fees. Once you buy a game, you can play online. You're good to go out of the box.

Sony has what, like 27 million PSN accounts set up? That's a weak ass argument right there. Another reason Ps3 is better, larger community.

No PSN only has 17 million which includes anyone using an account for PSP, PS3, or Playstation Forums. PS3 has far less online users than 360.

Your link is from 01/15/2009 buddy ;) nice try Sony in its latest reports stated that PSN has 31 million registered accounts. Although it is possible to have multiple accounts on the PS3 without paying for each one.

Guys, whether you include Wi Fi or not, you need to consider. The Xbox charges for it when for the same price the PS3 gives it for free. So if you buy a 360 you are getting screwed on features. Simple as that.

lulznub

How am I getting screwed over for a feature I consciously try to avoid using?

I wouldn't even let my Wii connect to my wireless network at home. I ordered the Nintendo ethernet adapter (Cuz... you know the Wii is lacking an ethernet port right?)

So Microsoft is screwing the consumer, when Sony, Nintendo and other big electronics companies have done far worse in the past? PS1 and PS2 were total cash cows, you had to buy memory cards, network adapters, controller port splitters. Then you have your PS3 with no HDMI cables and price reductions on newer consoles that screws over the early adopters. However it doesn't matter all around, because one person will take one miniscule feature from one console and compare to the other. If the other console does not have it, then it's screwing the consumer.

Gotta love this craptastic thread. I do have the wireless adapter however as of now I don't use it. I don't even use my ps3's wireless right now. A wired connection gets me less lag in games. But man TC I must say your argument makes you look like a noob which is what your name implies. Plus you say you have all 3 systems. What's your gamertag? You know we can look it up.

You're paying them because you can't realize when you're being screwed over.

lulznub

Just because you own all 3 systems(which is suspect)doesn't mean you are not a fanboy. You are obviously a Sony fanboy. You spew all the usual simplistic Sonyfanboy garbage. You're not fooling anybody. Only one person looks like a fool here and it's not me.

You're browser example is ridiculous. It simply drives home the fact that you think that being screwed over means that one system doesn't have this ideal feature set that you've constructed. That's ridiculous. That means that I can take any feature that the other 2 systems lack and imply that those companies are screwing over the customer because their console lacks that feature. Sounds stupid, doesn't it?

As I don't own a 360, I'm not paying them for anything. But I maintain that companies have the right to charge for their services. To think that charging for services is screwing one over is to have an entitlement complex. You still haven't addressed that.

Fanboyism is a mentality, a mentality which you have. So my accusation is not false whatsoever.

Secondly, thanks for correcting my grammar. Your argument isnonsense but atleast you've made yourself useful by being my proofreader.

Thirdly, let's go with your assertion that you get more bang for your buck with a PS3. Even if we establish this as the truth, how doesnot offering as much value as one's competitor=screwing over the customer? There is always going to be oneconsole that offers more value. That doesn't mean that the console that offers less value is screwing over the customer. And "bang for your buck" is subjective anyway. A person might think the 360's larger online community and more integrated service and the more expansive library gives them more bang for their buck. Not everybody has fall in line with your opinion about value. The solution to this would be to quit worrying about how people spend their money. But a fanboy can't do it I guess.

Fourthly, you still don't know what a fact is. It is your opinion that the 360 is lacking in the feature department, your opinion and nothing more. It's simply scary to see so many people that don't know what a fact is.

I already addressed this in my earlier post.

Do you have a credible link for these numbers?

Also Sony doesn't just count multiple PS3 accounts, they count PSP numbers, and their multiple accounts, and playstation forum accounts, while MS only counts active 360 accounts that have been on in the last six months.

Plenty of people use online. That's no excuse. We're talking about the average consumer, and this generation, online gaming has like it or not become the norm.

opex07

Out of the 30 million or so 360 owners only around 10 million are on live, 10 million out of 30 isn't even close to being the norm, this is also the case with the PS3.

Out of the 30 million or so 360 owners only around 10 million of them still work.

can you fix your quote chain so it doesn't look like I'm being a blatant fanboy. I certainly never said anything about only 10 million 360's working.

Thank you

cry me a river. Multiple discs wah wah wah. Did anyone making these claims to PS3 superiority due to 1 disc even own a PS1? Some of the best games came on multiple discs. Get over it. And speaking of mandatory installs....cough...ps3....cough...

Alright then. Just cause they are the biggest company in the world, there's no need to get jealous 8) I pretty sure sony will pay you a decent amount for your work ;)

Here's an idea... dont pay for it! Sure, the prices are insane, but there is no screwing of the consumer if the consumer isnt stupid.

And Sony doesn't? Who was it that was putting rootkits in there CD's so people couldn't rip them on seperate PC's. Lost a lawsuit for flooding the market with defective equipment and DENIED that there equipment was defective? Told everyone rumble was last gen and then expected everyone to buy new controllers with rumble after they put it in?

In other shocking news, the Wii is a system for casuals and Crysis has really, really good graphics.

That was sarcasm, those news are not shocking.
