It really is funny how quickly people eat up these rumours.

There won't be a next xbox anytime soon. MS is a lot smarter than that.

skektek

Really? They killed the first Xbox at 4 years.

Yes because, even after 4 years, it still wasn't profitable.

The Xbox 360, on the other hand, has been profitable since sometime in 2007 and will continue to be profitable at the end of 2009 (its four year anniversary).

What does that tell you?

So are they suggesting Fall '10 or Fall '09 for the Natal console?

I would be surprised if Microsoft went with IBM to make thier next Console, they would never part from the x86 or x64 that they know so well.

EDIT: amd IBM doesn't have a license to produce x86 or x86-64

the xbox 360 CPU is actually based on the MAC g5 series, not the x86 series.

The 360s CPU is based off the PowerPC CPU that IBM developed with Apple and Motorola.

youre both right....the G5 uses the PowerPc CPU so you baisicly said the same thing that he said

Why can't NATAL just be an add-on? A whole new console... sorta? I don't like this. I'd rather they just release another next-gen console in 2011 or 2012. [QUOTE="tubbyc"]

BTW it seems some are overlooking this part:

"Today, I can tell you that I have obtained the first details on the next Xbox (info that we'll reveal in the coming weeks) and that's why we can confirm that the rumor reported by 1UP is false. Microsoft is NOT launching a new, upgraded Xbox 360 disguised as a new Xbox in 2010 (although built-in Natal technology is a possibility for a new edition of the Xbox 360, similar to the Elite or Arcade flavors)."

Oh, thats a relief. I wanna keep this console life-cycle going as long as possible.

not surprising but it could just be talks about the next xbox way down the line. honeslty i think this gen could last the longest due to the economy. no body is going to shell out even $300 in this economy in the next couple year maybe 2012 at the earliest imo but more likely 2014

I don't think it's very likely to happen. If Microsoft is making a new console (which they are), I'm guessing that they aren't going to just "up" the hardware just a tiny bit.

It is true that the current 360 is still very profitable to Microsoft, yes, but they are looking at the long term. If they were to one-up Sony in their moment of weakness they could easily stay ahead of them for the next generation as well. Microsoft is a business, and will think of profits in both short term and the long term.

releasing a new xbox in an economy that is low on cash is kinda dumb. MS knows that they already have the upper hand by having a very low price point.

true but as everyone knows the initial launch of a system (aside from the wii) always yeilds financial loss for the company until they can recoup the expenses to cover the cost of development and other things for the new console, which is why one comming out sooner than later is out of the question. especially since theyre making nice profit off the 360 since it IS currently second in the industry at the moment and VERY popular

"It's not our intention to tease you, but for now the only thing I'm going to say about everything I heard regarding the next Xbox is that it won't launch until a certain type of television becomes more widespread because... " This is so obviously 3d tv's, seeing as its already taking theaters by storm, and it is the next evolution of tv. Stereoscopic 3d HD gaming would be sick, but thats really quite far off until tis widespread, I mean were talking like more than 10 years most likely. Those that just bought an HDTV arent giong to go out and get a new one anytime soon just because!

Um 360 is already PowerPC based. If they are going to make the next console backwords compatible wihout emulation they will have to go with them.

So the TC couldn't have made a more misleading title. The big news about the rumored new XBox console is: The rumors are false. Moving along....

Wouldn't that just completely cripple the Natal venture?

yea i noticed that. also what the man is implying is that the xbox 720 will launch with when 3d tv's are in the mainstream. according to analysts, blu-rays will be shipping in 3d in 2011 and 3d tv's will make up 10% of the tv market. in other words, no xbox 720 until 2011/12 the earliest.

actually, stereoscopic and auto-stereoscopic tvs are already on the market. a set standard has yet to be made but 3d tv's are set to have a 10% market share of tv's by 2011. it's not 10 years away, it arrived years ago. it's just become cheaper and easier to produce today.

ya release a 300-400 dollar console in the midst of an economic recession GENIUS Idea microsoft! I bet any money they abandoned the 360 at the end of 2010 as well

I'd buy it during a recession, it doesn't matter to me.

It is actualy based off an early version of the Cell BE's PPC chip.

Not a joke.

the G5 was used for "way back when" development because the high level code was simular.

I think MS has realized they cant compete with Sony in the next few years if they dont release a new console. Good luck MS as your sales will fail bringing a new console to the market so soon.

your kidding right? did you even read the OP. it even said that MS bringing out a new console in 2010 is FALSE. btw, it's the ps3 that can't compete with the 360 because of it's price. ps3 sales are flatlining with the occasional blip when a new AAA title comes out but then it's beck down to it's low numbers two weeks later.

Hopefully it would come with a standard controller as well...

Cause i still prefer a standard controller to motion sensing. Hopefully they wouldn't even think of releasing a new console until the end of 2010.

First off...the rumor was just shot down in the OP. Second...you do realize the Xbox 360 is outselling the PS3, right?

ms needs to go to intel or amd so they get a good cpu rather than a cpu that was 3 years out of date when it was released. x360 = power of 1.5ghz pentium 4 per core, the only thing good about it is lots of cores. but 1 amd 4000+ is better for games.
