Why do people keep saying that it is? Because of Kinect?

Microsoft has great IPs like Gears of War, Forza, Alan Wake and Halo. Are they going to end or are they going casual?

Playstation has the PS Move, yet people don't say it's going casual. Next year, there will be a better competition of exclusives (with the new alan wake and halo 4) and playstation has (the last of us and probably something will be announced or maybe i'm forgetting something)

I think Microsoft can handle both audiences, the casual and the core. The playstation will never lead like they did with the PS2, never again. There is a bunch of core gamers that play on the 360 and like it more than the Playstation (me included).

So what do you have to say? And yes I'm a Xbox fanboy, deal with it.

This is why: Prolonged loss leading doesn't work. The next Xbox will be underpowered because the hardcore are not worth the money. They'll still make Halo, of course, but Microsoft's focus is going to be the casual motion control audience.

looking at their kinect push, how many core IP's they have stuffed in the background and never used nowadays and the fact some of those core franchises listed actually have had kinect integrated makes me think otherwise.

M$ themselves have already went casual. The third parties are still bring their multiplats that do very well, but M$ themselves just does causal stuff. Look at all the new features they have added to Live, all of those increase casual appeal

To me, ever since, that fall update(November 19th 2008) where I got stuck with those stupid Avatars, just like the Wii, was the day Microsoft went casual.
Full time PC gamer ever since...

Ok, the fact that my 5th 360 died on me didn't help either, but still...

Most of microsoft's gaming divisions debt comes from the original xbox and the poor contract they made with their GPU manufacturer that didn't allow price drops with out selling at a loss, but the 360 has for the most part been profitable while targeting the core/hardcore audience. I would also argue Sony lost most of their money trying to push blu-ray sales, and not due to their target audience.

Hahaha wow you really made a topic because of the other thread? Jeez man you're sure coming across as insecure about your purchase. Also everything you listed is better on the PC, aside from JRPGs that is, which there is a bit of a lack of on PC unfortunately. Pretty sure handhelds rule the JRPG market now anyways. Also Microsoft's profits have been going up alongside their release of the Kinect, which I view as a little telling for their future.

The point is, if they loss lead to release a high powered console next gen, they're going right back into the red. At best, they can hope to break even for the losses from this gen and they'll never recover their cumulative losses if they continue their strategy.

They'll appeal to both, but the casuals will be a huge market for them. This generation they focussed more on multiplats over exclusives, because it worked. The casual market works for them as well.

Considering their past 2 holiday seasons have been heavily Kinect focused, and the new Dashboard set out and on top of that their main weight of advertisements are focused on the Kinect peripheral and marketing as such makes me think otherwise to be brutally honest.

Also their core game exclusives have dropped considerably since Kinect was announced with a focus on more crud like Kinect Sports and Gunstringer.

Well, I would expect the Wii U to produce more core games than the Xbox 360 moving forward, so I probably would have just held out for that if casual games are a big concern to you. The next Xbox could be a different story, but I wouldn't count on it.

Funny you bring op Move...it's not casual since it has buttons! Microsoft however, has already gone casual.
Kinect, all this random multimedia junk littering XBL, acquiring Rare and turning them into Kinect-only devs, appeasing to small children.
Even Epic Games is like, F it...we completed that junk called Gears of Bore, now on to some new IP that's probably going to be multiplat.
Bungie leaving, Rare massacred, the new Kinect focus, announcing multimedia features/gimmicks at a f***ing GAMES conference (E3).

Come on bro. Microsoft has gone casual...they freaking announced/hyped a SEARCH BAR at a GAMES conference. It's over.

The Xbox will continue to have core games, just not very many core exclusives. If the next Xbox is Kinect exclusive or something, just don't buy it. It's not like you sign a Pledge to Microsoft when you buy the Xbox 360.

The 360 actually has a fantastic backlog of games. Don't worry about it. It was only until this year that MS basically said "Screw it."

I'm merely talking about next gen when I say MS will go completely casual and milk everything for all it's worth.

Where do you see anyone advocating for PS3? And in real life, REAL gamers buy their own damn consoles. We're not kids like you getting freebies from our parents. I worked hard in my summer vacation with multiple paper round/jobs and got a PS3. It instilled disciple in me as worked to pay for the console (spent €492/$659). Face it bro, your parents don't love you enough to buy you a gaming PC or a second PS3.

Well, you can never really count on backward compatibility, anyway. The Xbox 360 only plays a handful of Xbox games and only adopters of the PS3 get PS2 compatibility.

no doubt most games have always been better on PC. So why has there been a console market for so long then? Many people don't want to game on PC. MS, Sony, Nintendo will do well for a while I believe. MS is not stupid enough to not make core games anymore. Will it be as many as the others? No. Doesn't seem to hurt them though, and I have enjoyed what I've played from them. Only here does this non sense matter.

Why do people keep saying that it is? Because of Kinect?

Microsoft has great IPs like Gears of War, Forza, Alan Wake and Halo. Are they going to end or are they going casual?

fact of the matter is those IP's are the only ones microsoft are giving to core gamers.

Also, unless they go the Activision route of releasing one of each every year, MS will only have about one or two exclusives a year while Sony uses several of theirs throughout a year and even Nintendo puts out more exclusives then that in a single year (good for them considering their lack of multiplats I guess).

This is why: Prolonged loss leading doesn't work. The next Xbox will be underpowered because the hardcore are not worth the money. They'll still make Halo, of course, but Microsoft's focus is going to be the casual motion control audience.ActionRemix
One problem with this... MS has many other streams of revenue from different branches. Now that the xbox is making profit, and from the looks of that list, more than the other 2, then its ona roll right now.

Yes, but I want to be able to play this gen games on the next gen console if I feel like to. And I don't think that PS4 will run 360 games :P

Well, you can never really count on backward compatibility, anyway. The Xbox 360 only plays a handful of Xbox games and only adopters of the PS3 get PS2 compatibility.

over 300 titles is a handful? How big is your controller?

The have already gone causal. Look at the amount of Kinect trash that has come out this year compared to core games
