It still happens but as I have a refurbished console I'm not sure if it happens with the news ones. However the most important part about the new update is you can install the entire game to your drive. You only need the disc in the drive to prove that you own the game. No more scratched discs.

but the problem with that is it takes Xgb on your HDD, most 360 owners have a 20gb.

Are 20 gigs still being sold? I thought they were 60 now. However a game only takes between 4 and 8 gigs or so. After that delete it and install another. You can still play disks. It's not like the scratching happens all at once, it happens over a long period of time. When you start seeing a scratch form merely install the game until you get interested in another one or you buy a bigger harddrive.

I don't think you're going to get a reliable answer to this one on here. PS3 fans will say it's very prevalent still though they fail to realize that it's mostly the refurbished ones that are RRODing. Since it was caused by excessive heat in the console and they are down to 45nm or 55nm now, or soon, on both their CPU and GPU chances are it is quite a lot lower than with previous versions of the hardware. Purchase one and you'll be given a 3 year window with which you can return it if it has RROD. That should be plenty of time for the end of this gen. I highly doubt you'll be needing to though.

Yeah, keep your 360 horizontal and don''t move it. I don't believe anyone who says they have scratched discs and said they;ve done neither of those.

what is not try, I got rid of my 360 because it messed up my gears 1, crackdown, dead rising and Double agent . Double agent was so jacked up I could only play one level in multiplayer. also don't give me that crap about moving your system because I only touched my console to put in a game and it was in an entertainment center. Bad design plain and simple

My launch 360 downstairs has never scratched a disc and it stands vertically. Also, my 4 360's (RROD) spanning just about every year the console has been out upstairs have yet to scratch a disc.

I've had two disks scratched because I accidentally moved my 360. The Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Far Cry 2 can't be read on my system any more. Its ridiculous, If I want to get a new disk I'd have to pay 20$.

1. If there's a WARNING ON THE CONSOLE then yes MS knew about it.

2. It sounds like 90% of these scratch disk cases are the faults of the users, more then the company itself
