...the new name for Xbox LIVE Silver.

I don't know about that. Naming the silver portion "free" just highlights the fact that you have to pay for the service that's good for anything.

I like the way that it doesn't roll of the tongue nearly as well as Xbox Live Silver....so catchy Microsoft

I don't get why this is such a hard thing for Sony fans to understand, especially now that they have PSN+. The Xbl Silver account has and always will be free, if you don't play online games such as myself, this is the account for you. If you do play online game then you pay for the Gold account for get all the benefits that the XBL community has to offer, simple.

Cows had better get used to the idea because we know that PS4 will require PSN+ for online playing

Lol Microsoft fail attempt at humor. We all know everyone would jump ship to Xbox Live Silver if the online gaming part was free.

Companies do this sort of thing, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Samsung, Toshiba they rename certrain things upon the release of other things to better intergrate they also rename things to give them a better understabability to the common consumer.

Its not that hard to understand...

Windows Live has always been free to play online. 8)
