The act of innovation is a difficult point to argue. As much as nintendo are almost certainly not the pioneers of motion control - they have developed it, packaged it and marketed in a innovative way and brought it to the masses - changing the way that we play games.

until i see inovation in gaming from micro then there really nothing to brag about considering were on a gaming site.

microsoft has done nothing at all new to bring to gaming. nothing. online was sega, the controler is nin, console is sony (dvd player) REALLY tell me what mico has brought to the gaming comunity.

M$ has never come up with anything on there own including there OS. The core of windows is off the Linux OS and they still use the Mac address system for on-line. The only inovation is how they can milk the consumer in the end. There was an artical from some another source not long ago that showed that M$ has dropped from around the top 10 companies to around the 50th place in the past few years. Heck the video games were around before the personal PC was on the market. I remember back in the 60's there were some of the first electronic game systems in local fairs that came around to small towns once a year (I think it cost a quarter to play a game on these systems back then).

Sony on the other hand is involved with development of most of the latest technology in some way or another. They are also big in science research and electronics that are used in these projects. As for inovation they may not always be the lead developer but they get involved with new development when they can.

As for market values Sony as a whole has a safety in there market shares that protects them from any kind of take-over. This would mean that basicly they only have less than 49% of there total value that's traded on the open market unlike M$ that has there whole stocks traded on the open market (no safety buffer to keep from having another company taking over).

Nintendo is only trying to get the casual gaming market and they really have no other true inovation. This in the long run could bring a lot more consumers into the console gaming market and selling more systems on other game systems. Sony is getting things lined up to be there with something new for these consumers when they are ready to upgrade there gaming systems.

Windows came out in the mid 80's..... the Linux Kernel came out in 91

Au contraire, what's doomed is your farce that Microsoft is "t3h innovation" when it comes to videogames.

You read that right folks. According to BusinessWeek's annual World's 50 Most Innovative Companies, Microsoft comes in at number 5, beating out Nintendo at number 7 and Sony at number 9. Take that, Sony and Nintendo fanboys! Oh wait, we're talking about games, aren't we? Well then I suppose Microsoft didn't really even place for games. Their innovation was attributed to their Surface PC and efforts to catch up with Google in the search engine market. Both Nintendo and Sony, however, were specifically lauded for their video game systems, with Sony called out for PlayStation Home and the PlayStation Network, and Nintendo for tapping into an entirely new gaming audience. This doesn't mean the Xbox 360 isn't innovative. Just not innovative enough for BusinessWeek, that's all! Just look at it this way - three of our favorite companies are in the top 10 of the list. We should throw a party, or at least stop hitting each other for a minute.

Kotaku

I did not make it up either as you can see. The above is my reputable source. ;)

Noooo lol there is no Farce that MS is number five on that list and Nintendo lands some where Below MS.

So you may want this to apply ONLY to VG but that is only one aspect to the innovator known as MS - well j/k a little. :)

I'm sorry man as I am not intentionally ignoring you as someone has reported me in my own thread and the troll who did it is getting away with it I guess so I've been a bit busy as I have never ever reported anyone for anything as long as I've been here but I guess fanboy's go around trying to silence what the truth they don't want to hear. :?

That said umm, as I've said man, MS has many div. and VG is one of them so it makes much more sense to me that this company, MS, who has invested literally Billions in this industry shall not hold Innovation behind some iron curtain so as their gaming div can't get to it, No, they will innovate through gaming much the same as they are known for in other areas.

I'm not at all some MS fanboy, it just irks me sometime that in these forums, some like to act as though the other two, Sony & Nintendo are the innovators and I'm just pointing out that major business publication disagree with their fanboy notions and frankly I guess it makes them mad.

In you're own mind maybe as I don't think so and it seems this article makes no distinction but you are allowed a opinion no matter how wrong you are. ;)

Where does the article make a distinction about MS and video games?

Mr. Stretch Armstrong, ladies and gentleman!

Dude, I don't like being mean.... Really, but you need some help with reading comprehension as you seem to " step in it " all the time.

I say clearly and now bold it just for you so slow down, take some deep breaths, whisper to you're PS3 to relax and read again please.

I don't like being mean either.....

Why is this thread in SW??? Has ZERO to do with video games, especially since the "innovations" you want to promote have ZERO to do with the 360.

Seems to me you should have taken some breaths after reading the article and not made this fanboy thread trying to cup Bill's *****.

Nintendo has nothing to do with video games? Wow.

I'm 99% sure they are talking about PC's and stuff, NOT the 360, if anything Sony should win, with their other technology they've made, like their TV's Walkmans and whatnot. And Nintendo should come 2nd or last, they only make games consoles after all, but they did revolutionise gaming quite a few times so, they're all pretty equal.

Look at it this way. MS got to be number 5 because of all different things, including PC and what they do on that. Nintendo became number 7 just using video Games because they don't have anything but that. So who do you think is more innovative with games MS or Nintendo.

Nintendo has nothing to do with video games? Wow.

Dude, where did I even say anything about Nintendo?

Obviously, Nintendo is the one of the three that was put on the list 100% due to video games and video game related innovations. That should go without saying.

The problem is, Sony and MS are into many, many different things that its very hard to say what role VG's played in the decision to add them to the list. Can't really come to that conclusion unless you get a statement from the authors of the list stating so. Which we don't have.

Again, this list has ZERO to do with VG's, besides the sure thing of Nintendo due to it only being a VG company.

/thread.

The reason I agree? Microsoft is indeed innovative. They are finding new ways to get rid of the RRoD which they brought upon themselves all the time, aren't they?

Everyone just says ninty are so innovative because they put in motion sensing which wasn't anything new or amazing, they were just taking a gamble to try and open up to the casual market.

Fail thats including Microsoft's main businesses.. Its gaming industry is small compared to its other operations.. While Nintendo is a gaming developer.. And other then Sony's electronic section they just do games.. Microsoft does OSes, numerous programs etc etc.. Nice try though.

Why can't you put aside any of the notions that in all probability you are wrong on - I'm judging that by you asking this question, and use a bit of logic and critical thinking and come up with the answer:

because all three are in the console business ! ;)

Seriously people, this goes out not just to this member but all who seek to discredit ME and this publication from a Very respected business news source.

Frankly speaking, ( and I must be careful as the silencers of truth are ready to strike me down for daring to tell the truth here :? ) what in the world happen to critical thinking with many of you as this seems a very Easy correlation to which company in the VG business is best prepared and funded to really make this industry TOPS in the entertainment business.

I know this is SW but even I'm surprised the hate I'm getting for daring to point out the Truth. - sheesh !
