Here's my thing, I don't understand how a game coming on PC as well as 360 negates that games existence. Yes, technically PS3 owners can play it without having a 360, BUT we all know probably 90% of cows don't have a PC that can run the games that we're talking about. Or if they do, they probably won't, it's just an arguement they use to justify their own games.
For what it's worth though, I DO agree that MS needs new IPs.
Mass Effect, Gears of War, Crackdown, Alan Wake, Kameo, Viva Pinata, and to a degree even Halo Wars are new IPs they've come up with this gen.
But, if you look at Sony, as overrated as I think a lot of their games are a lot of the time, they've come up with: Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Motorstorm, Uncharted, Warhawk, Infamous, LBP, Mod Nation Racers, Heavy Rain, and others.
So we're in agreement that some new IPs for MS at very least wouldn't hurt!
i agree. with the games coming out on ps3, i'm starting 2 doubt the 360. i think they should make games 2 compete with sony exclusives, such as an open-world superhero game (vs. infamous), hack n slash (vs. gow), then focus on ip's they already have, like perfect dark n such. maybe they can buy out cliffy b n give him his own studio too.

Crackdown 2 is an open world superhero game and I'mm 50/50 on a hack and slash game...

Like I said earlier, MS has no reason to "compete" with Sony. They are already beating them-- but when it comes to offering something more diverse with new IPs, Sony has MS beat in terms of its big exclusives. Sony is fighting hard, and MS could be fighting harder, but they are letting Sony catch up it seems. MS can honestly hurt Sony a lot if they wanted to, since they are most successful this gen. Sony has licked its wounds and is now healing, and I must say that they are rebuilding themselves just finely. With the new IP's and the old franchises making their way onto the stage, Sony is poised to regain some of its old glory. Anyways, MS needs some new IPs-- Gears was great, now if only they did more.
If we're going to do a comparrison between MS and Sony, should games that are shared with PC count since you can't play them on Sony systems? Mass Effect and Bio-Ware were major reasons that I went with a 360. They are on pc... but i'm a console gamer so I never even considered getting them for PC.
I supposed if you don't count great games for the 360 as great games for the 360, then the 360 doesn't have alot of great games... but that seems a little silly imo.

People seem to forget that sony makes computers as well. They do have microsoft on the inside, but microsoft doesn't make pcs, they make the innards of a PC.
I sure to love me a Sony vaio laptop. I get the best of both worlds. Microsoft should stick to software, while sony sticks to hardware.
Alan Wake, Gears of War and Mass Effect are all IPs that launched originally excluisve to the 360. enterawesome
:? No.
ME is on PC, Alan Wake is timed now, and Gears is also on PC. However, Gears is still the biggest new IP on a 360. Still, MS has failed to deliver a diverse collection of new IP's.
Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Crackdown, Ninety Nine Nights, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Too Human, Alan Wake, Ninja Blade, Lips, Kameo (it sucks and it's sequel was thankfully cancelled but it's a new IP), Mass Effect (though EA bought out BioWare... :P) are all new IPs that Microsoft published. What makes you think more are not under way? Sure, they aren't all the greatest new games, but not every game published gets to be the next new great game regardless of publisher.
I want to ask what the problem is of having Gears of War or Halo anchor the holiday season? They're guaranteed hits and moneymakers so financially it makes sense but it's not like they stopped with other games.
Rare's making another new game, Mystwalker is "finishing up" as Sakaguchi said a recent unannounced project, Bungie is working on a new non-Halo after Reach, Alan Wake comes out early 2010. Also, you don't know what announcements they have down the pipe. They just recently bought BigPark to make games for them, their other devs have unannounced projects that might not be sequels. I don't get what the point is of saying that they don't have new IPs when they clearly have new IPs. :|
[QUOTE="warmaster670"]
Sonys already brought out 6 new IPs this gen, with at least half of them being overall well recieved.
PBSnipes
Which is comparable to MS:
Ah, but Sony did it with One less year...Plus, ME was Bioware's, right?
Anyways, I don't know about new Ip's from either, I've never counted, I just know that imho, the PS3 should never be able to catch up to the 360 in new IP's, considering that a whole year is hugely substantial.
That's 20-25% of a whole console generation lifespan.

The PC version is CANCELLED, so there is little reason for MS to re-start the production of it.

if by little reason, you mean more money for a quick port job than I think microsoft would argue that they have more than a little reason to re-start production on the PC version later on in the future.[QUOTE="RadecSupreme"]Like I said earlier, MS has no reason to "compete" with Sony. This comment makes zero sense, unless your in the tortoise and the hare, and we all know how that turned out.

Mass effect isnt theres, gears of war, isnt theres, and i think they already killed kameo (shame)
PBSnipes
MS funded the original Mass Effect (at least the 360 version) in its entirety before selling the IP to EA, MS owns the rights to the original Gears, and killing Kameo 2 doesn't negate the fact Kameo 1 exists.
I dare you to prove either of those, and no, publishing a game doesnt mean they own the rights to it.
Gears of War was a new IP exclusive when it came out Dead Rising was a new ip exclusive Lost Odyssey Kameo Viva Pinata I mean i could keep this going.[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"][QUOTE="RadecSupreme"]
Indeed, Alan Wake will be their first new IP exclusive.
warmaster670
apparently no one bothered to read the OP, hes talking about MS IPs FFS, Gears of war, and mass effect arnt MS ips, neither is dead rising.
I know damn well what Ninja Hippo said. I was responding to the comment that Alan Wake is the "First New IP exclusive" might want to pay attention to what a person is quoting before you feel like getting mouthy. 2nd Viva Pinata Crackdown Lost Odyssey Kameo 3rd Microsoft funded Gears of War, and unlike Mass Effect which is now under 3rd party control they actually have more of a say with what happens with Gears of War. Gears of War is a bit more of a tweener than your typical third party contract.[QUOTE="RadecSupreme"] Gears of War was a new IP exclusive when it came out Dead Rising was a new ip exclusive Lost Odyssey Kameo Viva Pinata I mean i could keep this going. jg4xchamp

MS could have REALLY hurt SONY, if they put some money behind more quality first party exclusives.
Just over a year ago SONY didn't really have much, and the main reason to own a PS3 would have been as a cheap, and probably the best Blu-ray player.
If MS had the ambiton SONY had would could see games like Uncharted and Killzone on the XBOX, leaving very little reason to own a PS3 over the XBOX.
Sadly they decided to sit back and relax, and SONY have taken advantage of this and put themself in a VERY good position.
I'd actually love MS to come last this gen, it would make them try harder next.

i forgot about crackdown 2 b honest. thx for telling me. i just remembered, too human is a hack n slash game right? y not make a GOOD sequel of dat game.

it's too bad dat the ps3 is close enough 2 microsoft in the console race. otherwise, microsoft wont start lazing around and actually putting in effort into the xbox 360. i rather microsoft get developers 2 make new ip's for them rather than cutting the price of the xbox 360, i believe dat most people who wants an xbox 360 already has 1, including me.
They are already hurting Sony where it matter, in real life. Though there System Wars record isn't as great as Sonys in the past year or so, they still have titles coming out every few months, and they are selling. Halo Wars? Sucked but sold a mil in a month. Ninja Blade pushed half a mil with no hype at all. ODST is already one of the highest selling games this year Forza and GTA are going to be big sellers this holiday, though GTA isn't published by them. That said, I wouldn't mind some new IPs, but I am also perfectly happy with squeals, and the plethora of Live Arcade titles that have been coming out. And Alan Wake will pwn faces. Probably my most wanted games of 2010.MS could have REALLY hurt SONY, if they put some money behind more quality first party exclusives.

What's wrong with multiplats? If you got so much of them that you can't even afford them all then why bother with a new IP?Microsoft seems to be happy with pc/360 games, since they're technically exclusive to Microsoft, which is good enough for them. They also know that mutliplats sell good on the 360.
But yeah they need IP's. They should think about the consumers too.
Cyberfairy
Not only do they make money from 2nd and 3rd party devs. they also make money from us hobbyist who like making video games and distributing them for sale on Xbox Live Marketplace, Microsoft nickel and dimes us just to upload the dang things since we have to have a Game Creators Club Account which is about $100 anually, Not only that but we only get pocketed so much for selling a copy of the game (hopefully people buy it) but we also only get Microsoft Points which isn't bad but would rather be handed cash =P
Microsoft has really made a name for themselves, and pretty much tearing up the entire competition with all their 2nd and 3rd party support and also paying an abundance amount of cash to make sure other developers games are exclusively made for the Xbox 360.
Well considering that they only have like 4 first party studios anda few very good 3r party partners I think they are doing thier best. Every one of thier studios are busy
Lionhead- 2 games, Fable 3, Milo.
Turn 10- just finished Forza 3 probably getting things together to start forza 4
Wingnut interactive- were making halo chronicles only to get cancelled at the birth of 2009, 1 unannouned game
Rare- Kameo 2 cancelled, they make everything that has to do with the XBL menus and avatars, probable game in works.
Epic- without a doubt working on Gears 3
Remedy- 1 game, Alan Wake
Bungie- 1 game, Halo Reach
Ruffian games- 1 game, Crackdown 2
Mistwalker- 1 game, blue dragon 2
Feelpluas inc.- 1 game, N3 II
I see 3 possible new IPs- wingnut, Rare, and the known Alan Wake
dont forget about infamousExclusives don`t matter that much these days only on Nintendo consoles do first party games sell the console. Most casual gamers play more multiplats like fifa or COD anyway.
How many exclusives has the PS3 had this year only really two big ones Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 and the 360 has had ODST and is getting Forza 3.themerlin
dont forget about infamous As much as PS3 are getting great games, there is this one problem. All of those AAA games are shooter related or some form of shooting (does not require guns). You guys are forgetting that PS3 sales are rising has nothing to do with the games but rather the price drop and blu-ray. If for once PS3 sales went below Wii and X360 going forward, that will be the sign that it will return back to 3rd. Remember, another reason why a lot of gamers buy X360 and Wii is because it can be modded which is ironically one of the biggest advantage of the previous PS2.[QUOTE="themerlin"]

I dare you to prove either of those, and no, publishing a game doesnt mean they own the rights to it.
warmaster670
I was mistaken about the Mass Effect IP -- BioWare has always owned the IP itself, but MS held the publishing rights to ME1 (and possibly more, judging by the wording) before reaching an agreement with EA:
"Microsoft Game Studios will retain the publishing rights for Mass Effect on Xbox 360 and future downloadable content for this installment," Microsoft said in a statement. "Microsoft Game Studios and Electronic Arts have entered into an agreement where Electronic Arts will publish all future Mass Effect titles and projects."
Similarly, MS obviously owns the publishing rights to Gears 1, Gears 2 and likely Gears 3.
And in terms of this discussion yes, publishing rights are everything. For all intensive purposes if MS didn't publish ME or Gears, the games would never have been made. Turns out it's hard to develop multi-million dollar games without a multi-million dollar budget.
