@loe12k:
Nice cherry-picking. Take a closer, more honest look, however, and you'll find that overall the MS game division took a significant decline in monthly active users as compared to the previous quarter.
You compare these things YoY, and not from Q to Q. They do this because sales are very much influenced by seasonality. If they have less users next holiday season, then you are right, but now it doesn't mean anything. That's like saying that PS4 sales are in decline after holiday season...
@hrt_rulz01: xbox or xbox live service revenue?
I forsee countless attempts to portray this article as a xbox only stat somehow.
Completely ignoring that the pc and mincraft are involved and that there using the term "service revenue " is either trolling or stupidy imo
@FLOPPAGE_50:
What grow? Where are the sales? Who gives a **** about MAU. LOL. Probably Xbone console sales are in decline because there is no a single word about Xbone sales like in previous reports. Just software sales. Xbone is dying. GOOD!
XBONE IS DYING!
@FastRobby: No, that's how companies spin things.
Sure, every company in the world is spinning things... Why aren't you in the Sony earnings report saying that PS4 sales declined super hard since last quarter? It declined 73%!!!! Oh no Sony is in trouble...
@FastRobby: Yeah, Sony does it too. I never....said they didn't. Dude, I hate both of these companies equally. They're filth. I just like the PS4 more than the XB1. People go so crazy when you have a preference for a certain console. Sheesh. Calm down.

This has nothing to do with console preference, but with basis financial reporting. Everyone does this, because that's the way it should be done. You really think that none of the investors would say anything if they didn't like this? Or all the media reporting these things? Don't be silly, this is just the way it works, and the correct way.
@FastRobby: It is the correct way....to spin things. Why this truth makes you so furious is because you have pledged allegiance to a company. A company.
I love you.

I'm not really furious, I'm just trying to point out to you that this is the way things work, but apparently you think that you are smarter, and know more than most people in finance. Or you're just trolling. But to help you out, and because I love you too here is a link that explains it to you quite simply: reasoning behind YoY

I know the way things work, my friend. And the man in the interview below knows something of the way things work, as well. It is not a fun listen, or rather a fun read (it is subtitled in English), but if you have a spare 40 minutes or so, and want to be educated in the ways of this finance world you seem to know so much of, then, please, take the time. Again, I love you. I really do. More people need to know these things. Be brave. I suggest that you be patient and watch the entire interview, but if you need to take a break, please do so. Around halfway through, you will hear things you will not want to hear; but they are important things to know. You'll have to just trust me when I say that you will hear what you did not expect to hear. Remember, God is love, and God loves you. Reach out to me if you want to talk after watching the video (if you choose to watch). There is much to learn.

That's a lot of money. I wonder how much Nintendo and Sony made last year?
revenue isn't the same as profit
You could have 1.98 billion revenue and 2 billion costs and you would have made -20 million :/
Ahh that's true. Serves me right for multi tasking at work, lol.
I have no horse in the Microsoft vs, Sony race. But the reason to compare first quarter last year to first quarter this year, instead of this quarter to last quarter, is because of different trends throughout the year.
EVERY consumer business would look like it was in free fall if Jan-March was compared to the previous Oct-Dec. some businesses do as much as 80% of their sales between Thanksgiving and Christmas. That's why so many stores close after doing worse than expected in the Holiday season,
Holy shit someone with common sense on this forum! Okay fanboys this guy speaks the truth. The fact is yes, Microsoft did decline after the holiday quarter which makes sense. For investors they know this will happen, but what they want to see is growth compared to the same quarter last year. Microsoft shows growth which is really important and shows that the brand is still technically growing.

Not your fault :P
It's TC that didn't make it clear and lets people presume that MS made close to 2 billion in profits.
But I'm just trying to clarify ^^

Hopefully less than Microsoft. I might cry if they made more because Microsoft deserves the most.
Hopefully they use that money to invest in new ips, secure more play anywhere titles, get Japan back on board.
Yep. This is good for the gaming division. Need to see more investment in software from Microsoft.
