Yea, these games do for gaming what virtua pets did. I have watched my sister play Nintendogs and you'd learn a lot more by getting a real dog. I mean is this seriously entertainment? How long before they develop the UPS Guy game, or, hey kids, have fun at the washing dishes game, oh and here's a good one, pretend your at work with Data Entry Lite. Am a seriously the only gamer that wants to play games that let me escape from real life rather then lose myself in a simulation of real life. It's like playing the Sims instead of going outside and making real friends.

froidnite

Don't diss out on all sims.....I mean how many of us can "go out" and fly real planes:roll:

Or, you could play a flight simulator. It would certainly be more realistic than the Sims version.

"Dude, lets go out and get virtua drunk. We can pick up on cyber chick and then we can have some G rated cyber making out. Awesome!"

Errrr....flight simulator is also a sim.....and you just said this about simulators...."Am a seriously the only gamer that wants to play games that let me escape from real life rather then lose myself in a simulation of real life"

Yeah, I always thought SIM ment simulator but we might all be wrong:o

No I was discussing "The Sims", the game, by that title, and its various spin offs, not simulators in general.

[QUOTE="Insane00"]Wow, only like 3 games on that list even remotely interest me. I find it amusing that Microsoft has the audacity to present a list of like 8 games, more than half of witch are mediocre or part of fan specific genres and then express the opinion that no one has ever released more quality games in a year. Wow, their stretching things aren't theyInsane00

meh...the world doesn't really revolve around what interests "you"....they obviously can't account for the opinions of everyone, especially people who generally don't like 360 basically just because they own another console instead.

You argue that it's just an opinion, but it's not like there is an abundance of facts available to prove him wrong.

Oh people and your hate, your reading into things. Is Blue Dragon Phenomenal? Or how about Viva Pinata, are you seriously gonna try to spout M$ game superiority with that game? That'd be like Sheep trying to convince me of their superiority with Nintendogs. Yes, Halo 3 is probably a great game, all the reviews I've seen lawd it. I'd like to play Bioshock, but I'm not gonna buy a 360 just to try it. And Mass Effect looks interesting, I'd like to play it, but no more so than Oblivion which I have gotten somewhat bored with. The rest either are mediocre or multiplat. And what if you aren't that enamered with FPS's and Western RPGs? Seems like then your just SOL, or you can play a mediocre game on their system. If I wanted to play a mediocre JRPG I could by Folklore or Enchated Arms, both mediocre games, but on the same level as Blue Dragon.

I'm not saying that this is horrible list, I'm just saying that it seems weird that M$ would make a press release about how 2007 on the 360 is the best year for games in the history of their existence, especially when even the people reporting it question the legitimacy of the statment by citing another great year in gaming, 2005. So, y'all can hate as much as you want, and pretend that I'm dissin' phenomenal games, or you can actually read my post and see that perhaps this sort of behavior from M$ isn't that much different than Sony spouting their propoganda about how many great games the ps3 has, which in reality is limited at best.

actually nintendogs and viva Pinata are great games that both nintendo and microsoft should be proud of, viva Pinata is one of the reasons i wanted a 360 (of course there´s the PC version now)

I didnt know YOU defined entertainment, i always thought that what i like to do was my entertainment, anyway nintendogs did as much for gaming as final fantasy 8 9 10 did or as much as virtua fighter 5, or as mich as metroid prime , or the 1000th mario kart created, or the 500th WOW expansion or all of those FPS that the 360 has, now that i think about it, nintendogs did more to gaming that those games all put together did... it helped to bring gaming in to the masses, something which quite frankly, i wouldnt mind to see more of

but hey, i guess that opinions are laws now a days... must´v slept during the anouncement of that one

Granted, if people want to entertain themselves with virtual versions of life, that is there prerogative. However, if this becomes the standard for new apps because publishers are trying to appeal to a mass market, then I will be done with games. I'm not saying these casual games are abysmal or poorly done, I'm saying they appeal to a different desire and mentality in gaming than that which gamers, save the most hardcore that refuse to experience real life, want to enjoy. GTA, Project Gotham, Halo, these games (which by all rights are quality games) allow gamers to experience something they never could otherwise. This is not the case with games such as Nintendogs. There may be a small fraction of the population that has a similar attitide towards these apps, buy as a general rule these games do little more than to continue to make people lazy and unwilling to really experience life. Cause why experience real life when you can play a pretend version without any of the responcibility or dire consequences.

Further, with America already dealing with an obesity issue, why do we want to promote people sitting on their butts rather than having a real dog, to really take for a walk, and get real exercise.

Right this very instant you could be playing a sport rather then posting on a PC, you could read a book and actually learn something instead of playing Devil may cry, you could go out with your friends instead of staying of doing any of these things, it doesnt change a thing, its not just games its everything, you would have to ban casual games, TV´s, PC´s listening music in your bed had to be banned, only if all in door activities would suddenly cease would the obesity problem be solved its that simple and your blowing this whole thing out of proportion

What great games would PS3 have to boast about anyway? Lair? Heavenly Sword? Are these games great or just OK? OK pretty much summed up the gaming world's taste for these titles outside Sony purists. Sales for these titles as well as R&C and Uncharted were dismal compared to Halo, Bioshock and so on. THAT'S what Microsoft is implying with their statement. ESPECIALLY when everyone under the Sony banner predicted the return of the king once these 4 or 5 titles were released. Funny thing is nothing happened.

I didn't think so..

It's a matter of opinion. You don't seem to understand that. Perhaps you hate absolutly every game on that list...that really makes no difference. So I just don't see how YOU saying that YOU only would enjoy 3 games from the list is relavant to MS's general statements. And let's face it, you are most likely critisizing games that you haven't played, suggest by the fact that you admitted to not having a 360. So MS, being familiar with the games, is saying that these games are good. You, being not familiar with the games, are saying that these games are not good (or at least as good as MS says they are). Your argument isa losing one right off the bat for the fact that you are not famliar with the games.

and RPG let´s not forget RPG

Right now in terms of consoles RPG´s FPS´s and strategy the 360 is the better choice

the Wii is the better choice in platformers, party games, a great runner up for RPG´s and it´s pretty good in the action-adventure department

(i´m not going to add the PC because... well IMO the PC is just better than any of the 3 consoles)

I'm sorry chaps but you cant just fob all that off with "yeah but they're mediocre games which dont interest me". Nonsense. It's undeniable that that is a stellar list of AAA games to all be released within a couple of months of each other. It's literally more AAA games than most people can even afford to buy.

If none of those "interest" you, for one i'd ask - what the heck does? And second, i'd say at least have the common sense to appreciate that your view is somewhat detached from the norm and therefore it's not incorrect to say that the 360 has indeed had a good year.

As for the likes of Viva Pinata and Naruto, i dont think anyone is saying they're killer apps. I'm fairly sure they're just making a point that there's a variety of games for everyone, including kids and people who like party games.

Insane00

Hmm, I can get 4 of those games on a ps3, I find FPS's and racing games boring (I have never purchased an FPS), esentially the only thing up there that interests me, again, is Mass Effect and Blue Dragon, but I have already addressed these games. And of the 4, I already have Rock band on my ps3 and I plan on getting Orange Box, even if it isn't quite as good as the 360 version.

Again, however, while I will admit (and already have) that M$ had a good year for games, no one here has yet to convince me that the 360's line up of game releases this year is the best ever in the history of gaming, especially since that is was Microsoft's press release is essentially stating.

The world isn't gamespot. Nobody cares that you can get some of the games on the PS3. Simple fact is, the 360 got 6 or 7 AAA games in the space of two or three months; anyone who owns one or buys one has a crap load of stuff to play.

And again, you seem to just be inventing whatever reasons you cant to not enjoy these games. "I dont like shooters..." "i dont like racers..." "i prefer oblivion to mass effect..."

You know they're good games. Stop being so pedantic trying to convince everyone it's not as good as it seems.

no you dont, but you have an issue with being inactive, which is something every person has a right to if they prefer petting a virtual dog... hey its their loss and thats final, some people play games for the kick of it but not to escape reality, otherwise why would they realistic games sell? why would sims be one of the most profitable franchises?

stika

Again, how much more sitting on my butt do I have to do to getrid of that problem. Is 8 hours a day at work too much. Or how about trying to limit my game time to when I actually have free time, like the weekend.

Either way, you are right, it is the individual's choice to live however they like, and I really have no right to tell them they are wrong. But I don't have to admit that these games are great, involved, and interesting games, and yes, that is my opinion. On the other hand, I don't think anyone, including me, would ever say games like Orange Box, Halo 3, RE4, Oblivion, Mass Effect etc. are well done, quality games that do their best to bring gamers into the created universe, are lousy and uninteresting. No, I don't really want a 360 just to try some games I may find entertaining, but I would never say the games are lousy.

The other games we are talking about are a matter of opinion however, because they have no story, the developers didn't try to create an immersive world, they simply tried to put real life into a computer and while some may be entertained by it, I don't have to admit that the games are phenomenal. What creativity brought about these games, what originality? None, the developers just had to transfer what they can see every day into a digital medium. The only creativity are the modes of interaction. At least a quality SIM, like a well done flight or driving SIM provide the gamer with a learning experience that could, at least in theory provide a learning experience. But scientists can't even model human and animal behavior accurately so how can we expect game developers to do it. At least games like WOW involve real individuals as well as a story. So yea, it may be entertaining to some, some people may go nuts over these games (like my sister), but I see no reason to admit games of this nature are hallmarks to the video game industry save in that a lot of people that would never play an RPG, FPS, Action adventure, fighting or any other genre of game bought them.

By the way you should probably stop using all those quotes as the Mods don't like it.

I love how people keep challenging this list of games with their individual preferences.....as if MS was supposed to address every individual person in the entire world and cater to everyone's specific opinion. They released a general statement. It can be supported, it can be challenged, but it sure as hell doesn't mean that each game has to be loved by everyone who has any interest in gaming.

I care, cause I don't want to spend any more money on a console, I'm happy with one this new gen. And if I did have a 360 I would own Halo 3, Mass Effect and Orange Box just to start. I just don't want to spend another 500 bucks on a 360 Wifi, X0Box Live, etc.

Insane00

Don't diss out on all sims.....I mean how many of us can "go out" and fly real planes:roll:

Or, you could play a flight simulator. It would certainly be more realistic than the Sims version.

"Dude, lets go out and get virtua drunk. We can pick up on cyber chick and then we can have some G rated cyber making out. Awesome!"

Errrr....flight simulator is also a sim.....and you just said this about simulators...."Am a seriously the only gamer that wants to play games that let me escape from real life rather then lose myself in a simulation of real life"

No I was discussing "The Sims", the game, by that title, and its various spin offs, not simulators in general.

My bad....I thought you were talking about simulators in general....that's what your post seems to suggest.:?

So far a lack of proof otherwise has me believing MS' statement is true. It's actually kind of sad to see fanboys repeating "BUT I DON"T LIKE FPS" as if MS was supposed to single people out individually...but I guess that's what people have been reduced to these days.

stika

What great games would PS3 have to boast about anyway? Lair? Heavenly Sword? Are these games great or just OK? OK pretty much summed up the gaming world's taste for these titles outside Sony purists. Sales for these titles as well as R&C and Uncharted were dismal compared to Halo, Bioshock and so on. THAT'S what Microsoft is implying with their statement. ESPECIALLY when everyone under the Sony banner predicted the return of the king once these 4 or 5 titles were released. Funny thing is nothing happened.

Don't care, in fact I would go so far as to say, yea, the 360 had a much better year for games than the ps3, but that still doesn't prove that the 360 had the best year for games in the history of gaming, which is what i have a problem with.

they didnt mean the best ever in gaming (at least i think not) they meant the best ever in the history of the xbox brand

"Microsoft has issued an amusingly ebullient press release this morning claiming that the Xbox 360 release list this year represents, "simply the greatest portfolio of video games ever seen". Here are the games mentioned"

This is the first paragraph in the link, even the writer calls it an "amusingly ebullient press release" so not only are they saying it was the greatest release schedual of "video games ever seen" but the author reporting it finds the statement somewhat funny in its enthusiasm.

Deff. won't see it happen in '08. Biggest 360 game of '08 is NG2..Thats pretty damn sad.

pins_basic

How is that a bad thing? NG2 should be one of the best games releasing next year on X360 if not the best.

Fixed for you.

Do you not know how to spell in? You spelled it on  You couldn't even type 2008 correctly lol you typed X360  X is not even a number:lol:

WTH? Is this really happening? "BEST GAMES RELEASED NEXT YEAR ON X360"

ON X360...XBOX360..X is a damn latter :| X X X

wth "IN" 360?? RELEASED NEXT YEAR IN X360? ITS ON!

WTF? I wasn't even TRYING to type 2008.

How old are you? :|

My lord please keep me calm at times like this..

:|

:| Yeah, re-think wth you typed. "X is not even a number" "you dont know how to spell 2008"

Does it look like I was trying to type 2008?

Actually all the excitement lately about different FPS's and online play (which I also have never done) makes me interested in at least giving FPS's a shot. Also, if you read my later posts, you would see that while I'm not a huge FPS fan, if I had a 360 I would own at least 3 cause a quality game is at least worth checking out. Again, I don't want to shell out for another console. Heck, I won't even buy a new home computer and mines running a 1.3 Ghz processor with 128 Ram (yea, how pathetic is that) cause I'm trying to save up.

[QUOTE="Firelore29"]I would probably have to research this before you could say this for a fact. There have been some amazing years for the PC.madmidnight

noone really cares about pc gaming anymore..

its getting old and console gaming is just as good in graphics and gameplay now and at a much cheaper price..

I like console gaming as much as the next guy, but there is no way PC gaming is dieing at all, and that rumour needs to be put to rest.

Also PCs are graphically superior and gameplay is subjective.

The best gameplay Ive seen in a while is in Rock Band, a console game, but it's hard to compare it to Crysis' gameplay.

IMO I don't think the PC's lineup has been as strong as the 360's, cuz the only games I am gonna get this year for my PC are UT3 and crysis.

Wow, only like 3 games on that list even remotely interest me. I find it amusing that Microsoft has the audacity to present a list of like 8 games, more than half of witch are mediocre or part of fan specific genres and then express the opinion that no one has ever released more quality games in a year. Wow, their stretching things aren't theyInsane00
someone doesn't have a 360 :(
