The thing about that is PCs generally tend to last from 2-5 years, while the average tablet tends to last from 1-2 years before a much better tablet is released, so of course their sales will overcome those of PCs, because their hardware becomes obsolete much quicker.
In fact, I plan on getting a Nexus 7 and Surface tablet next year, while I have no plans to get a new PC in the foreseeable future, because the one I currently have is still perfectly usuable and up to date technologically.

That makes no sense, An Ipad 1 is still usable, according to your logic as soon as a new piece of hardware is out the previous hardware is unusable. SO when a new GPU, Mobo, SSD hell even case comes out my PC is outdated? Works both ways you biggot
He worded this wrong, but his conclusion is correct. It's not so much about being unusable or lasting, but the fact is that tablets life cycle is much shorter than PC. Tablets, like smartphones are percieved as gadgets, unlike PC, so there;s much more of a lust factor. iPad 1 still works well, but most users of it want to switch to new iPad, if they didn't already.Analysts agree with what I wrote. They predict that by 2016 tablets wmight finally be outselling PCs annually. But at the same time, when they do, there will be 750 mln tablets in use (about twice as much as annual sales) vs 2 billion PCs in use.
PCs currently got into such point where they easily last 4-5 years. What's more, the sales data is completely useless for desktops, because all it counts is sales of new branded PCs. So it doesn't count in sales of PCs people built themselves (or paid computer shop to built) and don't count upgrades.
