Ok, so why is PS3 selling so much better than 360 over there when...

A) PS3 is more expensive

B) There is barely any good software (here as well as Japan)

C) It is a bulky console...and Japanese supposedly like smaller more compact items

D) Final Fantasy game is coming to 360

E) Microsoft is trying harder by having released Blue Dragon....yet sales of 360 didn't really rise there

F) There is much more software on 360 than PS3 (surely, some of it has to appeal to the Japanese crowd)

G) HDTV and blu-ray isn't as widely used in Japan...especially 1080p and HDMI which PS3 has from the get go

If Japanese brand loyalty isn't the main reason why PS3 is selling better than 360, then what is the reason for the greater PS3 sales in Japan?

Seven 360 games, and NO PS3 games. And, this is the best sellers in Japan.

American made stuff is known to be poor quality in the rest of the world. Especially when it comes to automobiles. Most Amercan's just don't seem to understand...

Not only that, but online play doesn't really appeal to the Japanese market. They would probably rather have free online play thats not so great since they don't use the feature as much.

Cars - There's a reason.  Partially emissions minimum standards and part build quality.  You know, the same reason the Big 3 have lost America. :|

Video Games - There's a reason.  They play all the games we play, but they have a unique culture that caters more to certain types of games and genres of games that don't appeal as much in the West.

Who said Final Fantasy is coming to 360?  Maybe its just not appealing to them.  You guys come up with the funniest excuses.  The PS3 is just too damn expensive to them also.

WTF?

People invest money in what they can trust.  Things that have proven the test of time.  The Xbox brand is still working on that.  Just because many Japanese gamers are hesitant to drop a bunch of dough into a console that might not have their favorite types of games doesn't make that fact a "bad" one.

Remember, we buy Japanese consoles because we *always* have.  Because they essentially started consoles.

I think they will buy what is good and what presents the games they want in a ****and approach that appeals to their ****  Less "bling", more streamlined, simple and efficiently-**** user-interface.  And hype that brings out emotion, visceral reactions (ie, Sony E3 2005 CG vids).  Those can help.  As long as the 360 keeps making Devs money, they will slowly put faith into it.  But people forget that the Xbox brand is a baby.  PlayStation has been making devs comfortable for some 15 years.  Nintendo for 20+ years.  Xbox...well, it's still establishing itself.

Will check it out.  The dominance of Western franchises will change what's popular over time.  That's cool.  With that change we'll also see the Xbox franchise win over more and more consumers.  But it's tough to break people away from what they have been able to trust for so long.  Loyalty is probably the biggest challenge Microsoft has to deal with.  They need an F*** up on the level of SEGA or the Nintendo 64 (which led consumers to look elsewhere) in order to make even more headway, IMO.

Same reason they don't play FPS..it's americanmmogoon

They do play FPS games.  But you have to also remember the context and setting of many FPS games.  Maybe playing an american soldier conseptuatlly doesn't excite them, since they're not American?  Perhaps they don't want to play WW2-based games for reasons that should be grossly obvious to you?

Look at the cultural issues that derrive from the settings and storylines of some of these FPS games, then let me know what you think.  I don't even think Japan has its own military for them to have technology and weapons for the citizenry to dream about (because of WW2).

Think about it like this:

Let's say you bought your first BMW and you absolutely loved the driving experience you had...the styling...the colors of the instrument panels...the ride...blah blah.

5 years pass, and now you're back to looking for a new car.  What basics are you going to take with you on your search?  That you need a new car and that you had a GREAT experience with BMW.  One that you have no problem returning to.  You would be overwhelmingly likely to stick with that brand because of your experience, rather than take a chance with a new company that may not give the same experience.

it's the same with this.  People are comfortable with their Nintendo and SONY game systems because of multiple generations worth of experiences.  People loved those systems and the games that were on them.  Loyalty gets established.  It's hard to get people to move to something else because it represents a risk.  Will they like it?  Will it have games they will like just as _________ (fill in the console) did?  What if it doesn't?

Staying in the same family of hardware ensures they don't have to ask those questions (usually).

It's one of the tougest sells in business.

They aren't just simply biased against it. They just have no reason to trust it yet. The Japanese buy plenty of American goods, and they like our clothing styles and whatnot.

Besides, MS is doing a horrible job advertising the console in Japan. They just translate American slogans into Japanese hoping that it makes sense. Like, "Jump in." doesn't really make any sense to the Japanese. A lot of the "big" games the 360 has either don't appeal to the Japanese, or just aren't well known enough.

I think if enough time is given, MS can succeed in Japan. Its just going to take a while.

Just because many Japanese gamers are hesitant to drop a bunch of dough into a console that might not have their favorite types of games doesn't make that fact a "bad" one.

Remember, we buy Japanese consoles because we *always* have. Because they essentially started consoles.

I don't know about you but I buy consoles for the games.

360 has the best games of every genre.

If your too ignorant to understand that Japanese are biased towards American Consoles then I feel sorry for you,

Just don't give this BS about "People invest money in what they can trust"

They aren't just simply biased against it. They just have no reason to trust it yet. The Japanese buy plenty of American goods, and they like our clothing styles and whatnot.

Besides, MS is doing a horrible job advertising the console in Japan. They just translate American slogans into Japanese hoping that it makes sense. Like, "Jump in." doesn't really make any sense to the Japanese. A lot of the "big" games the 360 has either don't appeal to the Japanese, or just aren't well known enough.

I think if enough time is given, MS can succeed in Japan. Its just going to take a while.

I agree.

What, did I break your other thread?

http://amazon.jp./gp/bestsellers/videogames/202763011/ref=pd_ts_pg_1/503-4351502-9348738?ie=UTF8&pg=1

Seven 360 games, and NO PS3 games. And, this is the best sellers in Japan.

Dreams-Visions

Rainbow 6: Vegas is one of the best selling games in Japan. So, the FPS argument doesn't suffice. Check the above link.

I see NDS games at the top?

LOL. It's a top 100 chart. You have to scroll to the bottom and switch pages. The numbers at the bottom. R6: Vegas is #42.

Why would they give up on their largest untapped gamer market in the world? It wouldn't make any sense to.

the japanese buy many american products.  your point is moot.

Wait, There are still American products? I thought our only exports were steel and pop culture.

lol ouch.

Seriously though I always felt that had MS NOT launched the system in Japan and made it kind of an underground import only rebel type of thing they would have moved more units. You need to use more of a forbidden fruit kind of buzz around the 360 to get the Japanese into it. Maybe it would have been impossible for them to actually try anything like that but I still think that things could have not been much worse either way.

It's just like cars.  The Japanese port all of theirs off to America, but won't buy any America ports over there.

when American cars meet basic Japanese emissions and efficiency standards, maybe more American cars will be able to be sold over there.  Oh...but you knew that was the real reason why...right? :|

all i can think off is that they dont like foreigner taking over.. they want to be preservative.
but i would like to know what do you think of that though dreams-visions.

Xbox...well, it's still establishing itself.

in america we accept everything, we dont  dismiss something because its not made in america.
now if you played ffxi i would show you how japanese act. when they go looking for a party they say they want to party with Japanese only people.

i dont know why.. they think the rest of the world dont have skills or something.. they think they are superior or have more knowledge.. i wont never know until i learn japanese...
we all know all does incoming 360 rpg are better or as good as the rpg.. we all know MS is trying hard making stuff for them.. why dont they buy it. its no excuse.

MS is focusing on China.

That market is dwarfing Japans....but sales are good to have everywhere.

AvIdGaMeR444
In Japan, they know even at a higher price tag than the 360,they are purchasing high quality hardware, thus they opt for the Ps3. Once Ninja Gaiden comes out,Japan will fully be Sony's.
