Microsoft to commit 100% of its focus on consumer TV strategy with Xbox

Today, Microsoft and Ericsson announced a definitive agreement for Ericsson to acquire Mediaroom, the number one IPTV platform deployed by TV operators around the world. This acquisition is mutually beneficial and strategically aligned for both parties. Ericsson will continue to invest in the growth and success of Mediaroom to the benefit of customers, employees, and the industry. It allows Microsoft to commit 100 percent of its focus on consumer TV strategy with Xbox.

We are proud of the world-class engineering and business achievements within Mediaroom. They have a rich history of driving innovation in IPTV. As early pioneers, they built the infrastructure to stream video on limited bandwidth, and today they enable multiscreen entertainment experiences for pay TV subscribers. Mediaroom has contributed to the evolution of TV and powers 22 million set-top boxes today in 11 million subscriber households.

With the sale of Mediaroom, Microsoft is dedicating all TV resources to Xbox in a continued mission to make it the premium entertainment service that delivers all the games and entertainment consumers want whether on a console, phone, PC or tablet. And with 76 million Xbox 360 consoles around the world with 46 million Xbox LIVE members, it is a mission that gets us out of bed in the morning.

It is not a mission that we can achieve alone. We want to partner with the industry to deliver the next wave of innovation in games and consumer entertainment. I wonder when a rumor regarding games on MS's next console will appear. All I'm seeing are red flags of a console that would not appeal to me.

I thought Sony owned Ericson?

No, they had a joint-venture for mobile phones since 2001. They eventually sold their shares of the venture to Sony last year, which is why it was always called "Sony Ericsson", but now it's just Sony Xperia.

makes sense to me.  Its not like the 360 doesn't already act a an internet hub for your tv now anyway.  Why come up with new products when you can just focus on one.  Y'all are making this out to be more than it is.

End Game = More Profits

EDIT: 

In March 2012, Microsoft announced that next version of the Kinect for Windows would be available in May 2012. Kinect for Windows 1.5 was released on May 21, 2012. It adds new features, support for many new languages and debut in 19 more countries.

It's easy to handle change when it's actually good. Given Microsoft's track recrod over the pass year and shifting focus almost entirely onto Kinect, people are rightfully weary.

MS's focus on other entertainment ventures might be bad for gamers, but it could help them sell a f*ck tonne more hardware.

Imagine if, even with "no games". the next Xbox destroys the PS4 in sales.
