The following is a post from Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Marketing, Strategy and Business for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft.

Today, Microsoft and Ericsson announced a definitive agreement for Ericsson to acquire Mediaroom, the number one IPTV platform deployed by TV operators around the world. This acquisition is mutually beneficial and strategically aligned for both parties. Ericsson will continue to invest in the growth and success of Mediaroom to the benefit of customers, employees, and the industry. It allows Microsoft to commit 100 percent of its focus on consumer TV strategy with Xbox.

We are proud of the world-class engineering and business achievements within Mediaroom. They have a rich history of driving innovation in IPTV. As early pioneers, they built the infrastructure to stream video on limited bandwidth, and today they enable multiscreen entertainment experiences for pay TV subscribers. Mediaroom has contributed to the evolution of TV and powers 22 million set-top boxes today in 11 million subscriber households.

With the sale of Mediaroom, Microsoft is dedicating all TV resources to Xbox in a continued mission to make it the premium entertainment service that delivers all the games and entertainment consumers want whether on a console, phone, PC or tablet. And with 76 million Xbox 360 consoles around the world with 46 million Xbox LIVE members, it is a mission that gets us out of bed in the morning.

It is not a mission that we can achieve alone. We want to partner with the industry to deliver the next wave of innovation in games and consumer entertainment. We will partner with content creators, studios, labels, networks, content aggregators, operators and distributors to make this happen. We believe the future of home entertainment is one where TV becomes more simple, tailored and intelligent. We believe the best is yet to come for this industry.

Our vision and energy for the future of entertainment is more focused than ever. Stay tuned.

If Microsoft does not start getting serious about games again System Wars is gonna end up a pretty boring place. And my faith in Microsoft is fading daily.

The reason why your thread probably hasn't exploded is because people see your name and they think you are just posting more of the same previous reports we heard before, I admit I almost didn't click because I was thinking the same thing.

You should probably change your title to include new info and link

I wonder when a rumor regarding games on MS's next console will appear. All I'm seeing are red flags of a console that would not appeal to me.

No, they had a joint-venture for mobile phones since 2001. They eventually sold their shares of the venture to Sony last year, which is why it was always called "Sony Ericsson", but now it's just Sony Xperia.

Its likely going to outsell the next-generation because of their advertisements as a mediabox. It is going to be less like a console. They are clearly in it for the profits and to out-compete Apple TV. Honestly, I hope they are able to pull out and shutdown apple on TV products. The more competition the better.

That a POV though. Rumors/gossip come and go but I will judge MS on the 720's games when they actually announce the system and start showing them. Discounting games for a unannounced system that have not been shown reek of fanboyism, IMHO.

makes sense to me.  Its not like the 360 doesn't already act a an internet hub for your tv now anyway.  Why come up with new products when you can just focus on one.  Y'all are making this out to be more than it is.

MS will probably just spend all the money on timed exclusives and early access for multiplats instead of developing games besides Halo, Forza, and Kinect trash. Maybe they will incorporate some nice gaming incentives like every 1000 gamerscore you get, they'll let you watch a season of The Real Housewives: New Jersey for free.

Exactly. MS sees potential in being the main focus of your living-room, but they know core gaming is the trojan horse to ride their. They need only look at the lifetime sales figures of Halo, Gears, COD, and Madden to see that core gaming is gigantic, and then wrap every thing else around it.

What a silly thing to say. Every business is in it for the profits.

First Xbox wasn't meant for profits, it was to get their base in the consumer market to offset other home electronic. They knew that, the founder of the Xbox talked about it. Its about market share which is why Microsoft keeps on trying in the phone/mobile market even though they have continuously lost money on it.

This is a clear attempt to max-out profits off the xbox brand. Its the reason why kinect hasn't been released for PC yet even though they should it would come out less than a year after it came out for the 360.

In March 2012, Microsoft announced that next version of the Kinect for Windows would be available in May 2012. Kinect for Windows 1.5 was released on May 21, 2012. It adds new features, support for many new languages and debut in 19 more countries.

For this effort yes. I really hope they do out-compete Apple and restart a rivalry. I was to see a consumer/tech competition race between them.

But they still entered in the first place to turn over profit in the long run, whether they took a loss on the first Xbox or not. Otherwise the whole venture is a waste of time.

Maybe I'm taking it the wrong way, but it seems as if you're saying its a bad thing that they're trying to profit off the Xbox.

They release Kinect for PC right after the successful iterations firmware was released by Modders that allows the 360 version to run on PC. They have not given it any real 1-st party support at all.

Its clearly not bad for microsoft. I am hoping that they will do well with this model. I want to see a new home centered tech race between Apple and Microsoft. For the traditional gamer, I have no idea. Its not even announced yet. No one knows anything about it really.

Some people can't handle change, consoles need to evolve and do more than focus on games. This isn't the 90s and 00s anymore.

Some people can't handle change, consoles need to evolve and do more than focus on games. This isn't the 90s and 00s anymore.-RocBoys9489-

It's easy to handle change when it's actually good. Given Microsoft's track recrod over the pass year and shifting focus almost entirely onto Kinect, people are rightfully weary.

it's quite interesting to hear this because all generaton long xbox fans have accused PS3 games of being movies and not enough gameplay and the next xbox will literally be a movie station with games as an after thought.

It seems everything lems try to bash about Sony/playstation comes back to bite them in their ass in the end.

.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................

disk read error *dat milk* <<<<<< RROD worst fail rate in console history

justifying xbl $50 cost with PS2 having limited online support <<<<<< xbox ends up being the only service to charge for basic online gameplay *was increased to $60

saying PS3 has no games because of no early AAAEs <<<<<< 360 ends up the only console without an AAAAE or GOTY exclusive

now this

PS3 is a movie player, games need more gameplay, we don't want movies <<<<<< nextbox literally ends up a dedicated TV service

end/

lol the back tracking and selfownage by lemmings is monsterous.

MS's focus on other entertainment ventures might be bad for gamers, but it could help them sell a f*ck tonne more hardware.

Imagine if, even with "no games". the next Xbox destroys the PS4 in sales.

Be a damn shame.
