Pretty darn sarcastic I know but take it for what it is. :P

Discuss should yo feel the need.

The Story.

Microsoft: Worst of Red Ring problem dealt with, 360s now made of sunshine screenshot

With many consumers still terrified of seeing the inevitable Red Ring of Death flashing on their soon-to-be-bricked Xbox 360s, Microsoft is doing what it can to downplay the issue, claiming that after four years on the market, the worst of the problem is behind us. Hooray!

"We've improved that [repair] process," claims Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft's Head of the Official Department of Claiming Things. "It's very quick, and they may upgrade your system with the latest technology. So that works really well.

"...What we do in general, the way that it works, is that they will fix it with the latest [hardware] improvements that we've applied [to current Xbox 360s]. Obviously we're continuously improving the technology inside the box, not to get too technical. So they'll apply that when they make the increments to your system.

"What it comes down to is isolating and figuring out the issue, fixing the issue, and the more that we can fix the issue, and know it's fixed, then we're good going forward. We've put the worst behind us on this, but we know there are a few lagging systems, and so we want to take those and make it right."

It only took four years. Praise be to Microsoft.

If Sony can capitalize on ANYTHING after the release of Killzone 2, it is this. Sony makes a relyable console, they could use that in their marketing.

So they're downplaying the issue or actually fixing it?

So they didn't say that the RROD issue has been resolved, just then when your 360 does brick, they'll fix it faster and MAY throw in some new technology that you won't notice? I'm still not buying one.

Which are in the majority of the 360 owners households? On topic: good news, about time.

He never said it's fixed, he just said it's improving, which means it's still a problem albeit not as bad as before hopefully.

no, i'm pretty sure cows are allowed to throw it out there mainly because 360's will continue to brick in the future. the fact that it was ever an issue at all allows it to still be used. in fact, thats a big reason why i don't own a 360. sure i may have paid more for my ps3 but i'm not worried about it breaking down.

I'll still never be able to get the bad taste out of my mouth from the first time my console bricked. The saddest part is, it wasnt the console it's self that bricked... it was the power brick, it just went bad. MS insisted it was my console, even though it wasnt... yada, yada, yada. In the end, it took two months to get my 360 back and working. And I lost two months of XBL. I should have complained more, but I didnt. Did I mention that I only had my 360 for 3 months (91 days to be exact) before that happened?? But that was the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I still hold it against Microsoft. The one true time I did get the RROD though, the process wasnt half as painful, although still annoying and disappointing.

I'm sure the new ones are pretty safe. I dont have alot of money to throw around in the video game department, but I always think about selling my 20 GB 360 and just buying a core. Sure, I'd lose the HDD but at least I know I'd have a reliable 360. Heck, I just might do that... I wonder if I could get $200 for a 20 GB 360 though... wonder what the trade in value at Gamestop is.

You aren't going to get anywhere near that for a 20 gig. You'd be lucky to get 100 bucks. You'd do better selling it on Ebay or to someone you know.

Just the sound of that word "JASPER" gets on my nerves. What a ugly word. Anyway...by the time MS fixed their console, SONY made the best looking game on consoles. No but seriously!

Sadly, I would feel bad doing that, lol. My buddy asked me how much I'd sell it for.... and I'd feel bad to sell 'em a nearly 3 year old system (almost out of warranty) that has died on me twice. If it died on him, I'd feel like I just jipped him out of $250. I might call Gamestop and ask... I'll post the results in a second.

EDIT: By the way, when I say 20 GB 360... it's really a core model with a 20 GB HDD, lol. So I'll probably get even less...

Yes, you would probably get less. Just sell your core, and use the difference to get a new one. I'd keep the HD though. It's a complete pain in the ass transferring data.

Ps3s die, they are just way more reliable than the 360. I think it's like 8% of x360s vs 1% of ps3s, something along those lines currently.

lol I'll pass. I'm just so paranoid about my 360. Not so much the RROD anymore, because when I play it I have it sat up on blocks with a small fan set to low pointed at the side opposite the HDD... so it has plenty of ventilation and nothing is stopping the heat from releasing.... but I worry more about that E74 error or whatever. I think it's like a bad video card or something, when the screen goes green? I rip all my games to my HDD too, I dont even want to risk burning out my laser lens, lol. I'm telling you, I baby my 360 like crazy and still cant help but feel paranoid. I guess because I know if it breaks, I'm really in no position to be buying another anytime soon.

Which is why you should get rid of it.. Good luck in any case. I had the RROD once, but luckly I bought a replacement warranty and got it switched out the next day. I later bought an Elite and sold my premium.

If anyone doesnt know what the cause of the RROD is its because the motherboard gets too hot and the GPU and CPU start to seperate from it. The new Jasper equiped 360's should completely fix this issue. The use a smaller processer so less heat and they have big heat sinks and a heat pipe to lead heat away from the motherboard. It did take waaaaaaaaaay too long but it looks like any new 360's should be immune from RROD. Mine was bought 1/01/06 and still going strong.

finally........

now if cows want to use the rrod argument, they MUST refer to pre-jasper models.

Not until I see some proof. This isn't the first time we've heard "its fixed" from MS.

The proof is in the pudding. Look at the power output/heat output differance. Then look at the huge heatsinks and heat pipe. That fixes the problem.

If Sony can capitalize on ANYTHING after the release of Killzone 2, it is this. Sony makes a relyable console, they could use that in their marketing.Wasdie
Killzone 2 is excellent. I played the demo, but I don't think it will sell that well. The big PS3 titles don't really sell well at all because of the lack of advertising for them.

Yeah, isn't Little Big Planet a perfect example of this?

Whos to say they aren't lying again? RROD was SUPPOSED to be fix with the 2nd model of 360's (Elites), but it wasn't. We have to wait and say if the new models are fixed.

Microsoft said they fixed the problem like 10 times, whats makes this time legit?

[QUOTE="Nuck81"]So they didn't say that the RROD issue has been resolved, just then when your 360 does brick, they'll fix it faster and MAY throw in some new technology that you won't notice? I'm still not buying one.

Err what you talking about, my December 06 produced model was replaced with an Opus board even though i only had a DVD drive issue
