Im sure they've been working internally on the next xbox for a while, they're probably just beginning to assemble a team to begin the ramp up. Im talking out of my a$$ but I cant imagine them just now saying, "ya know maybe we should get on that whole new xbox thing". MS is smarter than the ilk around here wants you to believe.
Ok, now I am going PC at the end of this year FOR 100% SURE, the tech is just way too damn far ahead of the ancient 360 and PS3 to resist anymore.
This gen is going on way too long. AAllxxjjnnNah, especially when a new console would cost like $300-400. Games look and play fine on consoles as is (HD Twins that is).

I bought my 360 five, going on six years ago. I figured the latest a console release would be was this year, but boy was I wrong. (stupid Kinect and Move). Games like Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 are starting to put consoles to shame.
Uhhhh no.if its ms it will be done by this christmas time they rushed the 360 in 05 just like this gen to beat the ps3 by a year... remember everyone having RROD? look for more failure problems :P

They need to make a Windows Winbox that works alongside the PC.
And then MS needs to go give some money to their old devs to make some new PC/Winbox titles. They've already got AoEO, and MS Flight coming. Perhaps another Zoo Tycoon, and Mech Warrior are in order.

2014 confirmed???
It could be ready by 2013, but do you truly expect it by then? I suspect that Nintendo won't provide enough competition in the Wii successor and that Sony is even further behind on next-gen development, so surely MS will iron out all of the kinks and provide a cheaper/more powerful console with a kickass launch line-up.
[QUOTE="VensInferno"]I expect a Kinect related name... maybe the KineX Box. lol.I hope they dont name is Xbox 720...

It'll be called Xbox Renaissance. Trust me ;)
2013 the consoles are going to be very outdated (they already are now too). I used to think 2012 max but now with 2012 getting some great games why release a new console then?
[QUOTE="-RocBoys9489-"]Games like Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 are starting to put consoles to shame.Stevo_the_gamerAs if that is something new? I think so. The gap has never been this large and the technology on PC is even further than a gen ahead now. I don't even think the new consoles will look as good as that BF3 trailer tbqh. It's more than just visual presentation, it's the overall tech that is just far behind i.e. 64 players on PC for BF3, 24 on consoles.
"However, the most intriguing element of the story is just how early on in production we appear to be - far earlier than many had suspected. " That's very good news. Give this generation more longevity.Stevo_the_gamer
that's not up to microsoft.

It can be if they decide to release their console before Sony and Nintendo again. Thankfully they are going to wait longer so it would seem this gen is going to last a bit longer.[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]"However, the most intriguing element of the story is just how early on in production we appear to be - far earlier than many had suspected. Sony needs this gen to last longer than anyone else so I don't see what you're getting at. Nintendo will probably make a new console first but will probably still cater to casuals with a wii remote.

I agree, it's up to Sony: "The next generation doesn't start until we say it does." :lol:lol!
By 2014 PS3/360's are going to look like Atari 2600's compared to the PC's of that day.
sigh at "gamers" wanting tech to stagnate for nearly a decade...
gensigns
Trying to understand this concept melted my brain.
If I were a console gamer I would be asking for upgradeable memory/HD/video card/CPU, not begging for a 15 year console cycle.
I will say around 2013 or 2014. That's fine by me, but I hope they don't rush the console to the market like they did with the 360. Why? So that the first year of games isn't just figuring out the hardware. Give the devs more time. Rushing it to the market absolutely murdered sports games the first two years, especially Madden.
I would like to make a suggestion to the pro Xbox demographic. Send e-mails to, I don't know, major Nelson and implore him to ensure there's backwards compatibility.AncientDozerI'd send him messages saying to stop leeching off of my money I pay for XBL.

Won't happen, as Kinect won't have much of a big impact for next gen like it did for this gen. Also, I doubt they'll go with that name. It doesn't make any sense & it sounds pretty dumb to me.

Renaissance as a standalone has a nice ring to it. Similar feel to "dreamcast."

So Microsoft would pretty much admit they are in the middle ages when it comes to adhering to standards anno 2011? :PThis gen is going on way too long. AAllxxjjnn
not really, we are in a recession, no one is trying to dish out big bucks for a new system....well the majority isnt trying to. I still feel that the next playstation can be around 2014 if they play there cards right....but im just guessing
It's great news.
Now I want the Backwards/forwards compatibility they promised. If they don't deliver I will not be buying any more consoles. I'm not spending my money to throw away my games.
Hope they also don't go the Wii way and just pump out a slightly more powerful Xbox... Because I will not buy it.
8 years... Better = 24-32 times more powerful then 360.
I want my Blu Ray too and HDD standard.
You do this MS... I will buy.

But seriously, Renaissance meant "rebirth". It was an age of the rebirth of mankind, when new ideas were being born, when art and science came together (just look at what DaVinci accomplished as both artist & inventor as an example). Thus my matching slogan "IDEAS TAKE SHAPE".
I'm figuring a bunch of the umm, ground work has already been done and MS now knows how it wants to proceed so I don't think a Nov. 2012 launch is out of the question at all and in fact hope next gen starts by then or not too much later - I'm so ready to rush out and nab a next gen console, unpack and try it all out for the first time and be like blown away.. there's just nothin like a brand spanking new state of the art Toy to go gaga over. :P

Pretty much this, but I would also like the hard drives to NOT be incased in some plastic so I can go to Future Shop and buy a regular PC hard drive (like the PS3)
Other things include keeping the controller design the way it is, maybe just a little smaller.
On Xbox LIVE, I need to keep the achievements, and motto and all that stuff. But get rid of the stupid reputation and gamerzone, which don't affect anything.

Honestly, I have gotten so used to it, that I kind of like it. Of course that took playing Fallout 3 for over 300 hrs.
