lol!

By 2014 PS3/360's are going to look like Atari 2600's compared to the PC's of that day.

sigh at "gamers" wanting tech to stagnate for nearly a decade...

gensigns

Will there be many games to show the difference though? Many developers willl want to continue to cuts cost by making multiplats and there is only so much you can get from scaling the engine. How many games currently show the true difference between consoles and PC? The original Crysis and maybe Metro 2033 are the only ones that come to mind but even they don't need or fully use the latest and greatest PC hardware.

I'm figuring a bunch of the umm, ground work has already been done and MS now knows how it wants to proceed so I don't think a Nov. 2012 launch is out of the question at all and in fact hope next gen starts by then or not too much later - I'm so ready to rush out and nab a next gen console, unpack and try it all out for the first time and be like blown away.. there's just nothin like a brand spanking new state of the art Toy to go gaga over. :P

SecretPolice

Not going to happen, MS and Sony both need this gen to last longer.

Perhaps Sony but MS, eh, back in 2005 when 360 launched I'll bet ya MS figured by holiday 2010 they'd be launching a new console :o but this gen has really worked out for them plus Kinect coming on the scene but still, seems to me late 2012 should be about the right time - the gen will be fairly stale by then if ya ask me.

We shall see. :P

Pretty much this, but I would also like the hard drives to NOT be incased in some plastic so I can go to Future Shop and buy a regular PC hard drive (like the PS3)

Other things include keeping the controller design the way it is, maybe just a little smaller.

On Xbox LIVE, I need to keep the achievements, and motto and all that stuff. But get rid of the stupid reputation and gamerzone, which don't affect anything.

EliteM0nk3y

I don't really care about the hard-drive as long as a sizeable one comes packed in.

But I do care about the controller. It's more or less perfect to me, weight, shape and build quality. The d-pad issue is blown well out of proportion in my eyes.

And I DO care about achievements. If they got rid of them next gen or made you start afresh, it would seem like a gigantic waste of time(even though they are meaningless numbers anyway). They won't however, people are way too obsessed with avhievements.

Blu-Ray and wi-fi need to be standard. Some sort of " app store " would be pretty nifty too, they could even have some Kinect specific ones, for those that are so inclined. And a GODDAMN Youtube/iPlayer/4od app are brainless additions.

Back Comp would be nice too.

I think MS will hold out bc they still lost a lot of money from rrod, not to mention the original xbox. They know Sony is not going to make a move any time soon so they will continue to profit from the 360. Also if they release too early then the ps4 hardware will be head and shoulders above the next xbox. And I garuntee you MS never wanted a five year console nor did they plan on it.

Hold out BC? Oops. You mean "because"

But going to another BC subject: Backwards Compatibility. We know they've been in talks with AMD. AMD owns ATI who designed the Xenos GPU for Microsoft, so that's encouraging in that respect. As for the CPU part, there's nothing really wrong with POWER; it's just that the Xenon didn't contain POWER's full weight: likely for cost reasons. If Microsoft's next console processor is a Fusion-like APU with a POWER-based CPU and a Radeon-based GPU within, that will probably work out most of the problems right there. And I think this gen showed that people still want backward compatibility. It means they don't have to give up their libraries while at the same time not having to give up space at the TV--it helps in the migration.

PS. As for the RROD issue, that matter's already past: sunk costs. Company financial matters tend to focus on the present. What's past is past and already spent. The fact is that the 360 now generates revenue all round, and that's good news. Thing is, introducing a new console is going to impose new costs, and that will take some preparation.

They should focus on getting a team together that works exclusively on the heat dissipation portion of the hardware.

Damn! was about to make a thread like this! beat me to it.

Anyways, I guess we shouldn't expect their console for 2-3 more years, which is around 2013/14. same for Sony. Nintendo is coming out late 1012.

Nah, especially when a new console would cost like $300-400. Games look and play fine on consoles as is (HD Twins that is).

Play Crysis once and you'll never go back.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/microsoft-seeking-staff-for-next-gen-xbox

Microsoft advertising for staff to design their next system. If they are only at this stage now, we still have quite a long wait I think....

We are on graphic , animation , sound etcetcetc etc etc PEAK for more than 3 years now. I cant imagine to stuck on this gen till 2014... Games even now starting feeling ...OLD and not only that , Consoles keeping PCs also back... ( Crysis1 VS crysis 2 anyone? )... I really think 5 MAX 6 years cycle is good enough... Not 8 to 10... Please...

I agree! Some say its too expensive. But then they upgrade their expensive phones for 300.00 every two years. You can't say that consoles are too expensive to upgrade every 5-6 years.

Plenty of people offset the phone prices with contracts and sales. My phone would've been $500 if not for a two-year contract and a rebate.

We need this gen to last longer.

MS has only recently got the 360 working properly and the ps3 has been sandbagged so badly by sony firmware that they already have their next gen machine if they really open up the ps3.

considering I'm going to be in college for the next 3 years, the longer this gen lasts, the better.
