Quite frankly I think the best Microsoft can do for PC, is to stay the hell away from it.

PC isn't a Xbox, we don't want to be anything like a Xbox, they can take their Xbox Live approach elsewhere.

Yea MS needs to stay out of PC gaming as much as possible. PC gaming doesnt need a "platform". I've always thought that was one of the most appealing things about PC gaming.

That whole video looks like it was designed for the 360. Nothing on there shows even a hint of PC gaming, unless "PC gamer" means "bored office worker" to MS by way of Bej ewelled and Farmville hopefully just another marketing exec who lost his job last year

That's pretty horrible. Can't shout fail outright knowing how popular casual and social games are on PC, and that's obviously the market they're after, but when I think of PC gaming I think of Total War and Witcher not Farmville with Kinect.

Well, considering I was replying to someone who said "bring the casual market to PC WITH KINECT"... that might be a good indication I was talking about Kinect. There's always an exception, there will be a small market for Kinect on PC probably, but no way will Kinect's bread and butter come from PC. My thoughts anyway.

heretrix

I remember a GFWL game that wouldn't even let you save unless you opened a account with them.

So, when will they bring Gears 2/3 or Alan Wake to PC?

Xtasy26

They want to bring PC and 360 closer for 360s benefit, not PCs.

Like how in Vista they forced all sound card manufacturers to adopt the 360s API, causing driver compatibility problems on launch.

Steam is built for PC gaming, were as Microsoft is trying to push the console model onto PC.

On evolves with PC, the other is trying to standardize/streamline it like a console.

So...they learnt absolutely nothing from GFWL's "rocky start", and are continuing to make console-focused Windows add-ons with no quality games to back it up? Interesting.

Meanwhile, they've got next to nothing coming out for their real focus at the moment...so you really have to wonder what their plan is right now. And how they've managed to mostly fail at it, whatever it is.

microsoft stay away from PC gaming? your actually ruinging one of the best concepts of PC gaming because any one can do anything they want on the platform. I think it would be great if microsoft could really unify pc/xbox, especially if they made games on demand work across platforms, buy 1 game play on either system, add in a streaming service like onlive, and play on ANY microsoft platform,

Stay away MS!!!

PCGAMER.com

"Games for Windows Live is a ridiculous embarrassment for the platform. Developers: if you're using it in your upcoming game, you're not doing it right. Put it on Steam, or Impulse, or GamersGate, or sell it yourself online, or just stick it in a box. Preferably with a cloth map."

I really should have seen this coming since Microsoft is trying to get money from casual gamers and getting money from casual PC gamers who don't own Wii's is a pretty good idea. On the other hand, I doubt it'll be as succesful as consoles, kinect is the kind of thing you'd use with your tv inan open areanot with a PC with a small monitor(with the exception of people having their PC's connected to their TV). Plus this hasn't exactly worked since they've attempted this in May of 2010 and we haven't heard any big news about it. PC is a different market, you won't have people sitting in their chairs pretending their holding a wheel and playing NFS: Shift on their PC's with Kinect. But on the other hand if you think about it,RTS' with Kinect would be pretty cool. You'd whip your hand back and forth to switch from army to army, pretend as if you're touching a screen to select a unit, you could move your hands apart from each other to open the map and then choose where you want the unit to go, stuff like that. That would also prove RTS' would work on the Xbox, heck imagine a guy standing up doing this stuff, he'd look like a music conductor. Remember that PC is a lot "bigger" than consoles too, you already have streamlined games such as Farmville and other Facebook games, some Mofunzone/Addicting games/Armor games etc. I do agree that their vision is flawed, though, their so called "vision" is racking up the money from Farmville players. Next objective? CoD using Kinect, I already know people buying Kinects to get ready for that

I don't know what MS is up to in terms of PC gaming, what I do know is that PC gamers will love it. As soon as I saw that farm in the video I knew this was going to be a big hit on the PC. Good thing MS finally realized what PC gaming is about and how they can suceed at it, by going the way of farmville and the like.

I like Windows Live, because all you have to do is open a few ports and you can play many games. Done. No hassle (when it works ;)) However, Windows Live could be so much better! Microsoft just needs to understand that PC gamers expect different things then consolites. First they have to keep it free and keep GFW optional. Second all GFW games need to be on the Windows Store/Marketplace and you have to be able redownload your perchases an unlimited number of times, at no extra cost. Lastly GFW developers and publishers should be allowed to make versions of their games that use other online services (i.e Steam and Impulse). Also, I don't care if GFW games have matchmaking or P2P servers, but people should always be allowed to create and host a Dedicated server.

I laugh at the hate here, soo one sided

Gaming in general is going downhill because of Facebook and Apple

Dragon Age 2 is a perfect example of the casual/social effect on gaming and it will grow

please stop putting all the hate on MS.
