I am talking about failure to win the console war this generation and the next one as well.

1) Worldwide install base. Will the 360's one year advantage in coming out early make up for 5 years of disadvantage in hardware reliability, power, features, and momentum? The answer is a resounding no. Read about respected analysts' predictions of the world-wide insall base for current-gen consoles. The 360 will come in last, by vary large margins. Better yet, read up on how the 360 has been taking a whipping on worldwide sales every month so far in 2008, and this is before the busy holiday season.

2) Games. Will the 360 be able to maintain its lead in games despite the PS3's better hardware and Sony's investment in 1st and 2nd party exclusives? The answer is again a resounding no. The 360's advantage in games is shrinking very fast while the PS3's advantage in bigger and more advanced games are becomng more and more apparent.

The following are advantages the 360 no longer enjoys:

a. Mulitplatform games no longer look and play better on the 360. Developers have now mastered the PS3's complicated architechure. In many cases, the standard hard disk drive and dedicated servers actually allow games to run smoother on the PS3.

b. In game XMB is now availbe on the PS3.

c. Trophies, a better version of the 360's achievements, are now being implented in PS3 games.

The following are advantages the PS3 enjoys and will continue to do so:

a. A hardware better designed for bigger and more advanced games. With the very powerful Cell, the large capaciity Blu-ray disk, and a standard hard disk drive, the PS3's games look better, sound better and play bigger. Do your own research on the intenet, and you will agree that, overall, the PS3 has the best animation, sounds, and photorealism. It also has the largest multiplayer size, game environments, etc. Take your fanboy goggles off, please, while you are doing that.

b. 1st and 2nd party exclusives. Sony invested much, much more on 1st and 2nd party studios and have smartly shared development technologies among the studios. There is no question that the best exclusives in 2008 are on the PS3, and judging by the showings in E3, 2009 exclusives will favor the PS3 as well. To get enough exclusive games on their console, Microsoft has to rely on 3rd parties, paying large amounts of cash for timed exclusives. The drawback for this strategy is that after the exlusive periods are over, the games are ported the PS3 looking better and having more content. Just a few examples include Oblivion, Bioshock, and Eternal Sonata. Another problem is that this generation will last longer than the last one. As such, it's the PS3 that will likely have the best versions of the best multiplatform games in the long run. Even assuming multiplatform games are about even between the 360 and the PS3, exclusive games will give the PS3 the amunition for total domintion over the 360.

c. Large multiplayer games that look good and play well. The PS3's power and more liberal use of dedicated servers allow developers to make multiplayer games that have a huger number of players while making the graphics to look as good as the single player. The same cannot be said for the 360.

3) Features for mass market appeal. Will the 360 have what it take to reach mass market acceptance? The answer is a resounding no. The vast majority of gamers, even those who like hardcore games, play less than 1 new game per month, and as such, they will not pay for LIVE, not when there are so many other options out there. Microsoft's Don Mattrick must be mad in a delusional sense for him get on stage and declared the 360 will beat the PS3 in worldwide install base. I am declaring it now: as long as Microsoft charges for LIVE, the Xbox platform will never be a winner in any generation. It's just common sense.

Xbox 360's lack of a Blu-ray player also makes it less attractive to casuals and hardcore gamers. Casuals may like movies even more than games. So when they get into the next generation gaming, they might as well buy spend an extra $100 dollars to get the most powerful console that can play the best versions of the movies. Advantage: PS3.

4) Future outlook for Xbox 360. Unfortunately for Microsoft, this generation, out of necessity, will last longer than the last one. Developers investing in gaming technologies have barely begun to reap the benefits of their investments. Gaming budgets are already approaching movie budgets. To make games look, sound, and play much better than the best PS3 games 3 years form now, the next generation budgets might as well equal movie budgets. Also, next-gen console prices will have to be much higher than the cheapest 360 or PS3, making gamers more reluctant to jump into the next-generation as well. And so, with each passing year, the Xbox 360 will look more and more outdated, unable to play the biggest muliplayer action games, best looking games, the best sounding games, best movies, etc.

5) Future oulook for Xbox 720 and PS4. Current generation games on the PS3 and the 360 looks good enough now that they will have a longer playing life span than last generation's games. (Even Resident evil 4 on the gamecube still looks good enough to gamers to enjoy without being bothered by graphics technologies.) Because current-gen games will have a longer playing life span, world-wide install base this generation will be very important for next generation success. Why? Current-gen contents (gaming, movies, etc.) hold more personal value for the gamers this time and they will want to hold on to these contents ino the next-generation. So, 360 and PS3 owners will more likley chose the next versions of their respective consoles. As such, Xbox 720 will start the next generation with a disadvantage.

In other words: LIVE, unreliablity, less powerful feaures, and lack of Blu-ray means the 360 will have a smaller insall base, which means the next Xbox will start out with less support than the PS4. So, is Microsoft's strategy for Xbox 360 a failure? In the scope of the console wars, the answer is a resounding yes.

360 still provides console gamers with the most fleshed-out gaming experience money can buy.

Brand loyalty be damned.

I can't tell you how many of these I've read in the last week or so. Either you just copy and pasted this again, or you wasted a whole lot of time proving that your decision to be a sony exclusive fanboy was the right choice. Either way you failed.

No because Microsoft and its minions are still trying to pass on a false perceptions: that the 360 is equally powerful as the PS3, and that casuals will prefer the 360 over the PS3, and that the 360 will beat the PS3 in world wide install base. Besides, many of the responses, yours included, only prove the points I make about denial and anger in Xbox 360's 5 stages of grief.

I liked the bit were he says "take of your fanboy googles".......i thnk he still has his on but i still think tht the ps3 is gunna come out top this gen, not cos im a fanboy or anything but becos against the 360 n ms, sony has more exprience in the gamiing console industry and as he rightly said games are gunna take more and more space and considering ms said they dont need bluray (after hdvd's downfall) but its a fair fight against the wii i will have a harder time though the wii's more of a novelty item nuff said

To some extant, yes. It might not appear so on a conscious level due to pride, bias, and blind faith. But I work on a subconsious level...Moohahaha! The truth has a way of making itself know. I am just an agent of truth.

Actually Sony gave false perceptions of how powerfull the PS3 is and then said you all needed blu-ray so that they could secure a lead in the high def movie industry. As for the who will have the biggest install base time will tell. Cows make the most false perception posts everyday all day long. All you have to do is see all their bashing and crap going on all day long.

Microsoft people read this. Sony people read this. Nintendo people read this. Developers read this. I care less about fanboys, really.

To say the 360 is as powerful as the PS3 is denial. To say the 360 will more likely beat the PS3 in world wide sales is denial.

You still talk about the superior harware. Can you prove it? Have you read the link I showed you?

The following are advantages the 360 no longer enjoys:

a. Mulitplatform games no longer look and play better on the 360. Developers have now mastered the PS3's complicated architechure. In many cases, the standard hard disk drive and dedicated servers actually allow games to run smoother on the PS3.

Example? By now, multiplats look (and play) EXACTLY the same.

b. In game XMB is now availbe on the PS3.

And? Live is still better. Not MUCH better, but still better.

c. Trophies, a better version of the 360's achievements, are now being implented in PS3 games.

Eh... why are they better? Because you say it?

The following are advantages the PS3 enjoys and will continue to do so:

a. A hardware better designed for bigger and more advanced games. With the very powerful Cell, the large capaciity Blu-ray disk, and a standard hard disk drive, the PS3's games look better, sound better and play bigger. Do your own research on the intenet, and you will agree that, overall, the PS3 has the best animation, sounds, and photorealism. It also has the largest multiplayer size, game environments, etc. Take your fanboy goggles off, please, while you are doing that.

Googles off, can you read the link? Here's again:

http://dpad.gotfrag.com/portal/story/35372/?spage=1

So, until you prove that the PS3 is superior, you should stop talking about it.

Again, proof?

c. Large multiplayer games that look good and play well. The PS3's power and more liberal use of dedicated servers allow developers to make multiplayer games that have a huger number of players while making the graphics to look as good as the single player. The same cannot be said for the 360.

Prove? Example? And don't come with Resistance, 'cause we already know that Gears and Halo 3's multiplayer are better.

And that's why there are more people in Live that in PSN?

Xbox 360's lack of a Blu-ray player also makes it less attractive to casuals and hardcore gamers. Casuals may like movies even more than games. So when they get into the next generation gaming, they might as well buy spend an extra $100 dollars to get the most powerful console that can play the best versions of the movies. Advantage: PS3.

Again,Blue-Ray has not proven to be that important.

Again, proof?

And that's why they have sold more than the original xbox? And that they still have an advantage of 5-6 millions over the PS3?

Another post, another bunch of speculation with no proof. Can you please prove something you say (with facts), or are you here just to give opinions?

Really? Because last time I checked the 360, had a much larger and more higher scoring library of games than the PS3. The 360 is a GAME console and that is what it does better than the competition, GAMES. I mean if you want a second-rate PC, with the ability to play Blu-Ray movies and occasionally games, then by all means the PS3 wins.

a. Mulitplatform games no longer look and play better on the 360. Developers have now mastered the PS3's complicated architechure. In many cases, the standard hard disk drive and dedicated servers actually allow games to run smoother on the PS3.

This just isn't true atall, not only do they generally perform worse (i.e GTA IV)but some of the key developers such as Valve are flatout refusing to port games to the PS3

b. In game XMB is now availbe on the PS3.

Yes it is available, you're point? I hope you're not even attempting to compare what the PS3 has to Live, that would be rediculous. It's not like Sony will ever catch up either, it's quite clear that every step forward they take, Microsoft take Live 4 steps further.

c. Trophies, a better version of the 360's achievements, are now being implented in PS3 games.

A handful of PS3 games have a second rate implementation of Xbox's achievement system, it's a total ripoff.. and not a very good one at that!

[QUOTE="Sihanouk"]

So, until you prove that the PS3 is superior, you should stop talking about it.

Again, proof?

Dude, I actually admire your faith in Xbox 360. Keep it up, though, and you will be disappointed to know I am right. Here's an advice: you don't need to feel the burn to know there's fire. Look at the smoke. Look at the animals running out of the forest. If you can't see how this applies to PS3 vs. 360...well, may you seek advice from Microsoft.

360 still provides console gamers with the most fleshed-out gaming experience money can buy.

Brand loyalty be damned.

Dreams-Visions

Seconded, with a :)

PS: I thought it was pretty obvious by now that Sony has done far worse then expected this gen whilst, MS has done far better then expected and Wii, sheesh, off the cart.

Now, what was all this about failed strategy ?

No because Microsoft and its minions are still trying to pass on a false perceptions: that the 360 is equally powerful as the PS3, and that casuals will prefer the 360 over the PS3, and that the 360 will beat the PS3 in world wide install base. Besides, many of the responses, yours included, only prove the points I make about denial and anger in Xbox 360's 5 stages of grief.

1) Most of these people didn't even read your post because of how long it is.

2) What denial? Opinions are opinions and you cannot force yours onto others.

3) Learn to shorten your opinions please. The long posts don't attract many gamers, especially if it is not interesting.

Microsoft people read this. Sony people read this. Nintendo people read this. Developers read this. I care less about fanboys, really.

To say the 360 is as powerful as the PS3 is denial. To say the 360 will more likely beat the PS3 in world wide sales is denial.

Some people who are bored enough have read this, I and many others haven't though.

But anyways, that isn't denial, that is their opinion. Maybe your just so fixed on forcing your opinion on others that you just spew out the word denial at the end of every post you make.

Ohh like 4D and 120FPS dual output HDMI, Blu-Ray (trojan horse for movies) is needed for gaming, Backwards compatability is important to us. The next gen doesnt start till we say so. Im especially loving how on multiplats the PS3 is starting to catch up now almost two years later!

So much wrong with that post...

a) Trophies "a better version of achievements." What makes them better? Because you say they are? :?

b) PS3's more advanced games "becoming more and more apparent." Haven't games consistantly looked better on the 360 for years now?

I mean the PS3 is a great system, but fanboyism like this is hard to agree with.

how is trophies better than achievements? achievements are detailed and you actually know how to get them when you hit the guide button and look it up during the game.

sony still doesnt have a better online experience yet. in game xmb is a joke. full in game music across the board ms has it and sony doesnt yet. full ipod support ms has it and sony doesnt, support of any type of external hdd ms has it and sony only allows fat32.

360 still seems to get more support from 3rd party overall.

360 still seems to be lead platform for most titles that are multiplat.

360 still seems to have a slight graphics edge on most games over ps3.

What kinda crappy analogy is that? I have yet to have seen this power of the PS3 you speak of. All I can see are the same graphics as the 360. As for denial of the future, who knows the outcome of the future of both consoles. How can anyone be in denial to something no one has the truth to? All that can be said are opinions or speculations.

Gamespot should pay me for teaching people how to think and analyze.

Read IGN's take on trophies.

When you buy a house don't focus on things like the carpet or the type of flowers growing in the yard. These things will chage. Focus on the location, on the number of bed rooms, and bathrooms, etc. Things that dont' change. On the things that don't change, the PS3 has a big advantage. But, go ahead, I dare you to buy a house the way you buy a console.

Well, maybe you wasn't informed, but game console aren't equal to houses.

You buy a console for its games. The 360 has a lot of them (some of them really good), the 360 will be getting more great games (including a big PS3 exclusive), so everything looks like the 360 is and has been a good choice.

You still talk about the future, but, as always, you have forgotten to show some proofs. Your fake cristall ball is not enough.

Install base is not as important as profit. As of now, Sony's gaming division lost billions while Microsoft actually makes a profit.

Games - the 360 has 14 exclusive games AA or greater, while ps3 has 5. It also has 1.5x the number of multiplatform games. At best, you have a "just wait" arguement.

Hardware - the ps3 is not that impressive. Blu-ray is not worth the cost. The cell is too hard to program for and the GPU is weak. Microsoft has the advantage here because they can release a new console of better power at a lower cost, while selling at a loss. Sony can't afford to take any risks.

Microsoft has the better console currently based on games. Microsoft will have the better console based on the company's sheer profit. The only reasons Microsoft could possibly lose the next gen is blind loyalty to Sony or if they put together a console as lacking in games or as needlessly expensive as the ps3.
