As far as single developers go nothing tops Miyamoto, but Michel Ancel is someone I respect almost just as much

BEHOLD!!! The creator of Rayman, Rayman 2, Beyond Good and Evil, and Rayman Origins

RESPECT HIM!!!!!!!!

Miyamoto is awesome and an all around nice guy from every account I've heard.

It's too bad I won't be playing the latest Zelda..Props and respect to the man though, I got much love for the guy.I think he still is the heart of this industry.Too bad it's being controlled by a bunch of souless hacks.

To be fair, Miyamoto didn't really have all that much to do with this game. Other people produced and directed it and he sure as hell didn't do any of the art, music or programming etc.

He may have already passed the best stage of his life as a game creator which explains the lack of a new IP that can match Mario and Zelda's legacy. However, he could still create a fantastic new IP. We just don't know,

The Pikmin games were perhaps some of the most unique and well made games last gen... Miyamoto created it and I am so greatful to him for it... Then their's the fact that Super Mario Galaxy 2 has more originality and new ideas than the vast majority of new IPs this gen. What's more important, a new IP that's derrivative or and old franchise that keeps trying new things?

He's unique in that a lot of his ideas don't stem from games themselves. This is a true rarity in game design these days.

The only Nintendo game that can really even be CONSIDERED to be like a movie was Twilight Princess. Even then, not really. I never noticed that before, but that's something nobody gives Ninty credit for. They let the gameplay flow, and don't try to make it like a movie.

He is THE man. Whether you like his games or not, chances are if you are gaming today you owe the man some respect.

Before I got an NES and a copy of SMB I only played games out of boredom. Gaming was just missing that special something. Because of Miyamoto gaming went from being a pass time to being a hobby that I have loved for the past 25 years. Hell, I probably wouldn't be working in the field that I'm in now (and love so much) if it weren't for him.

I must say I'm impressed by what Nintendo have put out with Skyward Sword. I haven't played it, but the fact that IGN is calling it the best Zelda game ever is something to write home about. To be fair, it is IGN, they think Uncharted 3 is better than Uncharted 2 and that MGS2's story is a mess that makes no sense and MGS3's is all over the place. That's two of their other reviews over the past month. Do I trust them? No. But I don't think that they would be able to say Skyward Sword is the best Zelda ever if it wasn't at least very very good.

I think a lot of gamers have this perception, that nintendo fans are just tapping into nostalgia. I am a fan of Nintendo and I can tell you that it isn't the case with me. They have the best game design out there, period. The problem is that they have been catering to the mainstream too much lately, making their games too easy and with a kiddy aesthetic. BUT, they oversee some projects by 2nd parties that don't have those bad qualities, like Xenoblade Chronicles and Eternal Darkness.

Yep. Instead of being an innovator like the old days where games were better because they weren't new, he's somehow managed to degrade into nothing but a worthless figurehead.

If you can honestly say that nostalgia doesn't have something to do with it, then you really are lost. Think about it. Really think about what goes on in the mind when people perceive how good any game is. Do that, and then try to tell me nostalgia doesn't have anything to do with it. It's all over the place if you actually objectively break it down.

well how about games like Eternal Darnkess, Xenoblade, and Pikmin, which didn't exist when I was younger? Not only that but I play games on my ps3 too so it's not like I'm sheltered from the rest of the industry or anything. I will admit that there is a nostalgia appeal to Nintendo but I would still drop Nintendo like a stone if I wasn't having fun playing their games.

I don't sit there and enjoy a Zelda game because I liked Ocarina of Time. I sit there and enjoy a Zelda game because I like that game. If a Zelda game was bad, I wouldn't sit there and play it because I liked an older title.

Example: I didnt play Spirit Tracks because it didnt look like my cup of tea. Where the nostalgia on that one eh?

Ugh, here we go with the "Nostalgia = High Praise" excuse again. Other long running IP's have proved this. SEGA's Sonic (weirdly enough is as badly riffed on as Nintendo is right now OUTSIDE of critics) has proving this for a long time.
