Anyone who thought that statement was arrogant is a moron. For one, he was stating his philosophy on game design and used Halo mearly as the example of what American kids want.
Two, Miyamoto is known as one of the most humble game designers, this statement remains consistent with that.
Three, even if he wasn't humble, He's Miyamoto! The entire Bungie team doesn't even begin to compare to what this one man accomplished.

If you include last gen alone, they destroyed every game he made so I think so. Not fair to say since it was thier first gen working strictly for consoles.
Â
What has he achieved. make a few IP's 20 years ago, sequel sequel rehash sequel repeat with 20 more sequels?

Um, Miyamoto was apart of how many games in the last gen, about 10-20 most likely, how much was bungie apart of? 2 games. And how do they destroy every game he has made, not even sales wise cause a mario game has sold more. And gameplay wise, Halo doesnt even compare to OoT.[QUOTE="AvIdGaMeR444"][QUOTE="useLOGIC"]i would absolutely LOVE to see miyamotos take on a dark gritty genre. i might even buy a wii just for it.6icks_tea_4hoar
Nintendo bought N-Space to make Geist. Miyamoto had no part of that game.

Geist 2005 GameCube - ProducerÂ
Hahaha.... Way to selfown genius. Look at the colums. Director, producer, designer.  Producers rerely have a personal touch in the game created. It's the director and to a greater extent the designer. As you can see in Geist he was just the producer and not the director or designer. He signed the checks. Hahaha.... Selfownage at it's greatest.Â
[QUOTE="6icks_tea_4hoar"][QUOTE="cecx"].imagine if all the first parties switch platforms for one game? there would be like, halo on the wii, mario on the ps3, and ratchet & clank on the 360? that would be a totally sexy moment in gaming history!Bungie's Response: "We could make a mediocre stealth game with a terrible camera and teh MeLtING iC3 CUbES!, but we choose not to." :P

And it isnt better imo. Beat it once, never touched it again. halo i've played through about 100 times along with every gamer i know.Â

You do realize that he speaks very little English and a lot of his statements are taken out of context. What he probably was talking about in terms of "people" was infact not game players. For instance the idea for Pikmin was no well recieved by then the President of Nintendo Hiroshi Yamauchi. Miyamoto didn't care what Yamauchi thought and went ahead and produced Pikmin. Even though Pikmin was his idea the lead designer of Pikmin was Shigefumi Hino and some other guy but I forgot his name. He created Nintendogs the system seller for the DS which has sold over 6 million copies.
And New Super Mario Bros. DID outsell Halo 2.

"As of April 26, 2007, New Super Mario Bros. has sold 9.5 million copies worldwide,[24][25] making it the second best-selling DS game."

Â
"it also reported that 9.2 million units of Halo 2 have been sold worldwide"

And as for Halo being played through 100 times, how do you explain people still pulling their old NES out and playing the game with SMB taking the top spot in EVERY top 100 games countdown?Â

Last gen alone, I still think Miyamoto accomplished much more than bungie. Halo was only successful because it was the right game at the right time. It's an FPS that does nothing new, and if you ask me (as well as members of the gaming press that don't have their head in their ***), was repetitive (and in the case of the sequal) unbalanced and broken.Â
Also, halo only appealed to Western males. Every game Miyamoto specifically had a hand in the creation of (not counting things that he only "advised" so Nintendo could sell a few more copies) appeals to people of all ages around the world... Name one designer or artist that has that same ability in their given field. Look up the numbers to compare Halo worldwide sales to Miyamotos average.
And even when they make a sequal to Miyamoto games, they put in the effort to make significant changes to the design.

On a handheld no less.Â
We wouldn't have to resort to such bickering either if people took the time to actually THINK about what was said in the interview. Jesus, the interviewer through Halo out there not Miyamoto. If he said Madden, the quote would've been the same.

Why don't you actually read the article. He did not say he can make Halo specifically. Nor did he say he could make it better. He was using Halo as an example of the genre. He could make a FPS style M rated game if he wanted to. You also have to realize the most of Miyamoto interviews are in Japanese because he speaks very little english. A lot of what he says is horribly translated and taken out of context. Â

he was joking. CounterStrike was a better game. Â
First:Bu bu he wont make a m rated game he wont! Geist was teh only one and he didnt have a say in it. Then: Oh, he did have a say in it. Finally: It was an aful game![QUOTE="AvIdGaMeR444"]Geist was AWFUL! Amazing he was senior producer of an M-rated title. I don't think it sold well at all either :?tman93

Fixed. :)
I'd say he needs to realize that all games are different and just because he rehashes mario 8 times per console, doesn't make him god.SkyRaid
Tell me, how many 3-D MAIN mario game have there been on the previous consoles. Let's see, one on N64, one on GC (Excluding Luigi Mansion) And so far, one on wii. Seems to me that he hasn't been rehashing the 3-D transition of the series that much has he...
You obviously don't know Miyamoto, I read the link and what he basically said was he as a game designer could make a game that has little innovation but isa perfected version of something that everyone already likes (Halo), but he prefers to imagine and create new experiences. That's not arrogance, that's his philosophy on games, keep it fresh instead of rehashing and perfecting the same formula.camzaman
thats what i got from it, he just basically said he could make it if he wanted to, but he wanted change, innovation, not the same old crap ahem **cough** halo3 cough***
Miyamoto could make Halo but since the wii can't handle Xbox 1 graphics and I'm pretty sure that guns aren't allowed in nintendo games, it would probably look like this.

LOL
My God! Some of you can really get your panties in a bunch over nothing, can't you?
He's not saying he could easily make Halo, he's saying he could easily make a Halo, i.e. a futuristic sci fi FPS which would appeal to the mass market in the West. And you know what? Anyone could really. Whether it's good or not has no bearing on how much it will sell. Just look at all the movie licenced trash out there- it sells because the brand is popular. Likewise, SciFi shooters are very popular at the moment in the western market.
He's not dissing Halo in any way, he's merely using it as an example of a popular genre in the west which just happens to be one he could make a game of but doesn't want to.
And remember, it's most likely his comments were translated from Japanese, and as Bill Murray will tell you, you might not accurately get what he's saying.
