Miyamoto Worries About Shooting Games

The responses here show how poor some people's critical thinking is. Defenses like "so he thinks gaming is doomed" or "but i thought Miyamoto wanted to make a FPS" or "there are only like 3 FPSs coming out" are beyond stupid.

He never said gaming is doomed. He said it's a concern that pretty much every mainstream game invlolves shooting as the main mechanic. Gaming companies know this is what youngsters are interested in and keep churning them out to make a quick buck. It's just awkward that most games little kids play are the supposedly mature ones for adults. I know it's the parent's responsibility but you can't deny that yong kids are the main crowd most developers have in mind when making these games. Either that or they're oblivious. But what is there really for kids to play on the PS360 besides LBP that is actually popular? It's mainly the parents that are dissapointing, but there just isn't much that they have to choose from that kids will also like.

Shooting isn't limited to FPS and TPS. Almost every game shown off at E3 featured guns and murder as the main gameplay and draw. Watch Dogs, Halo 4, BO2, Far Cry 3, Last of Us, Dead Space 3, Metro Last Night, and on and on. Miyamoto said he'd be interested in creating an FPS, buthe doesn't have the time. He's busy creating other diverse games to make sure there is more to play besides throwing his own FPS into the overflooded pile.

I'm agree, on the part that the industry has becoming quite bland and boring with all the shoothers, i went to my video game store and they had a huge section of nothing else than shooters...meh.

However, i'm not agree with the part about parents, you must be pretty stupid to let your 8 year old kid play something like CoD or GEOW.

Yes it is dooming our other genres. Because there are so many mindless drones out there that continue to buy CoD over and over, EA now wants Dead Space 3 to sell that many and they are trying to appeal to that audience. Jrpgs, platformers and such don't sell nearly as much anymore because all the of the kids these days play nothing but shooters. Look at the quality of Xenoblade, yet it sold nothing compared to the crap that was called Duke Nukem Forever (insert any poor shooter that still manages to outsell fantastic games). Wonder why were not seeing a second Okami game, because it didn't sell well even though it was great, because all kids are concerned about these days is shooting, and seeing the blood fly.

I don't hate shooters, infact I loved Bioshock, Half Life, the first Halo (I don't mind the later ones, but I don't they are as good), Doom and such. I don't mind the third person shooters like RE4 (in fact I loved RE4), Dead Space and Gears.

But many of my favorite genres and games are getting reduced down to nothing because everything is turning into a FPS or a TPS. And really, look at xbox live, you get on to play a game of CoD/halo and 70% of the people playing are 10-14 year old kids that just loudmouths and obnoxious. That's why if I'm ever playing it just so I can play a game with my friends, we just go into a private chat and ignore everyone else now.

Personally, I don't know what the **** he's talking about. Films and games have ratings and broad descriptions of mature content on the box. Books have...?
