@indzman:
Me...... just wanted to be the first.
Get a g.f =P
Who plays games for boobs? =P
I do. [Depending on the game that is] The new Tomb Raider game, I just kept starring at Lara's booty, I keep forgetting what I was doing lol.
You love Anime boobs most , am i wrong? :P
We should learn from dav's example to not be afraid of 2D booty
Heh
Not digging the art style at all. Watched a stream last night and it didn't seem like mortal kombat. Why did they change the look of every characyer. The bobs thing is just shows that sjw s have imposed there bullshit to gaming devs. But that isn't my gripe, it's the art style itself.
What do "SJWs" have to do with anything?
It has nothing to do with objectifying women. All the female characters in MK9 looked fucking stupid. If you prefered their old look, then you have shit taste in character design.

I'm just not getting the priorities here personally. When I think of Mortal Kombat, boob size isn't exactly what I'd consider "core" to the experience.
Get pissy about boobs and unrealistic proportions, don't give half a shit about comical ultra violence.
That's the American spirit!
Yeah to be honest, I'm not sure I get the point either. In a game where Raiden launches people 1000's of feet into the air, grabs them by their spine and electrocutes them, then the person plummets back to earth only to have Raiden teleport through the ground and snap their spine with a knee, only to have the person get right back up and continue fighting...well...what does realism, especially regarding outfits, have to do with anything?
Anyways I do think the new outfits largely look better. The new characters (at least to me, not sure if they were in other MK games) on the other hand stink. All the children characters are as generic as they come. The one exception is the bug lady...not only is she awesome but is probably the best voiced/acted in the entire story mode. Again, haven't kept up with the series (mostly played back in the Sega/SNES days) so not completely sure if those characters are indeed new.
Oh, and regarding the gay character...I'm about 90% through the story so maybe this comes up later...but I had no idea the character was gay. Not that I care, but frankly characters sexual orientation is not something I want or care about in MK games.
@Renevent42:
Yeah.... its not like they date...... too busy saving the world..... they might aswell all be A-Sexual Fighting Machines with no Genitals....... now if they want to add A Social Mini game then it would be worth noting who likes boys and who likes girls......

Two completely different things, I don't understand the connection.
Dead or Alive has the most ridiculous over the top sexy outfits in a video game, but that doesn't mean I would be okay with hardcore gory violence in that series.

The connection is obviously realism, as stated in the title. What exactly does it matter that the fighters boobs are big and their outfits skimpy? The game has no basis in reality.
Regarding Dead and Alive...I think that point actually works against you. Why wouldn't you be ok with gore in it? Because it's always been like that and you wouldn't want the formula changed? Technically that's kinda how MK has always been, at least for a really long time. So why is less boobage in MK a good thing?
@Renevent42:
Would smaller muscles also be a good thing ? They should shrink all the bulky characters.... I wana see what affect that would have on the game's realism.
I certainly don't look anything like Johnny Cage...dude has a chest like an icebox and arms thicker then most men's entire bodies :P
There is no realism in Mortal Kombat. There are basic moves which would flat out kill a person stone dead that slightly wound someone, like Scorpions hook. There is extreme violence which upsets no one enough to censor (right now!) and yet they are concerned with big boobs, even though they do exist. It's a platitude aimed at securing a social status, not a really concerned effort to achieve anything.
Not that I want MK to be censored, I like it. I think this is ultimately an empty gesture to people who wont buy the game.
As for the gay character, I'm all for him. He's new. Gay is what they made him.
Lets cut the "SJW" crap. The new ones are even sexier/hotter than before. Fake proportioned doll looking characters/people aren't as attractive to the male mind, studies have shown.
Same reason new tomb raider is so much hotter than old one.
Also, they look more badass. Again, barbie doll doesn't really look like she can kick ass.

AHEM game characters are not MADE gay they are born that way.
@Renevent42:
I'm just as Thick.... except I don't have muscles ;) hahaha
What? I thought all men were ripped and I was just in my down period.
Edit: Actually, I'm rather lighweight... 75 Kg at 176 CM.
@Bread_or_Decide: I know you're joking, but, no, they are constructed, like androids. Are a product of a creators vision, unlike people, who are chaotic, individual, personal. People are born gay, characters are made gay. Either is fine.

It would be a good thing for female gamers. They prefer ripped/cut men, not these weird half-hulks in video games.
Same goes for this change to women bodies, I wouldn't be surprised if most guys actually find the new models far sexier than the cartoonish older ones.

I know exactly what you were saying. However, we're talking about two different levels of realism. I don't see how hardcore violence instantly invites skimpy outfits, that's a total leap of logic.
I was only using Dead or Alive as an example. Just because the game is over the top in one way doesn't mean it's free to be over the top in another. Mortal Kombat has always had generally shitty character designs with a few exceptions. Just because it was terrible back then doesn't mean it's okay for it to bad now.

That's a pretty big generalization, don't you think? My wife happens think dudes like The Rock and the dude from Drogo from Game of Thrones and those are giant hulks of men. Likewise, clearly from this thread there also tons of guys who like the older female models as well.
It's just fantasy anyways...

I didn't say it instantly invites skimpy outfits, the fact is the series has had skimpy outfits for a very long time. So using realism to suggest it's good to remove them in a game that's about as unrealistic as it gets is silly. That was my point.
Also, it being terrible back then is just like your opinion. Lots of people liked it. I'm personally ok with the change and frankly the women are still dressed in skimpy outfits anyways...not seeing a drastic change.

Generalizations supported by studies. I guess I'll say most men/women next time.
The average women will prefer soccer player body over football player.
Exactly why I cancelled my preorder fo this game and bought Elite Dangerous on PC instead. It's sad to see NR Studios bow to the pressure of social justice warriors. MKX feels like a generic fighting game without the sexy female ninja outfits and big boobs. I'll buy it if they release sexy DLC outfits in the future with a good price drop.
@Lulu_Lulu: Pffft casuals.
Ash Crimson from KOF was gay (and gorgeous).
Nevertheless, Mileena is still hot, Kitana is still hot, who cares about making boobs smaller. Small, big, boobs are boobs. I thought we were all about accepting appearances xD
@Lulu_Lulu: I think the thing I like about Japanese fighting games more is how subtle they are with their character designs.
****, Bridget cross dresses but the Guilty Gear staff doesn't make a big deal about that. Nope, the big deal is he fights with a f***ing yo yo.
Also Amane from Blazblue not only cross dresses, but is also gay, and potentially a pedophile.
There are other things, the factor in buying a game shouldn't be social reform, it should be how good it is.
@SonicNextGen2:
Damn Straight..... and thats what bugs me..... nobody is talking about the core mechanics of the game....... which is the primary reason I'm not buying the game...... yeah I'm alil dissapointed by the characters and DLC Like everybody else but is that really a reason to write the game off completely ?

That's fine, still there are plenty of people who do like it though. Even then, wonder what the statistics are purely from MK's fanbase are. I think that would be much more relevant. If we are designing games by statics I wonder what percentage of players are female in the first place? I'd wager 10% or less.
I'm all for this. The super-boob stuff is just crazy over the top and embarrassing. The women in MK weren't always like that either, not that we need to be tied to the past. It diminishes the quality of the game to do this though. There's a reason why news anchors and film actresses in good movies don't all have stripper bodies, much less hyper sexualizing them. It distracts from the content. It destroys immersion. It's a signal to everyone that you don't think your product has it where it counts. Making a trash film? Fill it with breasts.
It's no different for games. Imo I think it's worse for games because gaming sessions go on for a lot longer than movies, and so immersion is a much more important quality.
