uh, no they're not. Can you use whatever app or program you use on PC on a console? No, you cant.

Dumb argument

did you even read what you wrote? you cows cannot be this stupid.

Console = a PC.. you open it up and guess what's in it? PC PARTS you dolt.

consoles are computers under a unique IOS.

wtf? You lems cant be this stupid.

Sure Consoles have hardware parts but guess fuckin what? Tablets and smartphones also do! Are they PCs? Of fuckin course NOT

A console is hardware mainly made FOR gaming. PCs arent. PCs are hardware made for MORE other than gaming

Educate yourself before saying some stupid sh*t

If it looks like a PC, smells like a PC, runs like a PC, performs like a PC and the manufacturer calls it a COMPUTER, it must be a PC. The PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system that is.

https://www.playstation.com/ps3-openplatform/

There is more to the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system than you may have assumed. In addition to playing games, watching movies, listening to music, and viewing photos, you can use the PS3™ system to run the Linux operating system.

By installing the Linux operating system, you can use the PS3â„¢ system not only as an entry-level personal computer with hundreds of familiar applications for home and office use, but also as a complete development environment for the Cell Broadband Engineâ„¢ (Cell/B.E.).

There are many flavors of Linux available, which are developed, managed, and distributed by the respective companies and development communities.

As Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) does not develop or directly support a version of Linux for the PS3â„¢ system, SCE is pleased to provide links for the following Linux distributions that support the PS3â„¢ system:

  • Yellow Dog Linux
  • OpenSUSE
  • Fedora
  • Ubuntu

The respective websites provide instructions for downloading or purchasing the Linux operating system, as well as information about installation and post-installation configuration.

Installation of the Linux operating system requires that the PS3â„¢ system's internal hard disk be formatted. Important data should be backed up before proceeding with the installation. Even after the hard disk is formatted, the system software of the PS3â„¢ system will not be deleted, and system features such as starting games will remain available after formatting the disk. (Note, however, that data that is saved on the hard disk will be deleted.)

Note that SCE does not provide any support for the installation and the use of Linux operating systems on a PS3â„¢ system. For technical support, you must contact the Linux distributor or community that provided your Linux operating system.

To use the Linux operating system, you must update the PS3â„¢ system software to version 1.60 or later.

I think this goes back to his original point. A Personal Computer (PC) is a multipurpose machine that is intended to by used by an individual to perform a wide range of tasks. A console is a machine dedicated to entertainment and is designed to be used by more than one person at a time. They may use similar hardware, but they're not the same thing. When the PS3 was able to run a version of Linux, it was running it in a virtual state. The Console OS was running another OS on top of it. It then mimicked a PC. While it was doing so, you couldn't play PS3 games or anything PS3 related for that matter.

So taking this approach, defining a console as a PC and vice versa, you could say that a 3DS is a PC because it has a cpu or that my Core i7/GTX970 build is a console because consoles have GPU's.

Personally I don't give two shits. I don't consider consoles to be "PC's", but I do consider them to be "of PC". I don't have any desire to use Windows 10 apps on my Xbox One for example. Sure, things like Pandora, Twitch, and the like. But if they make productivity apps, I won't bother with them.

I think we can agree that all of these devices are computers. A PC's and consoles are types of computers, but a PC is not a computer.
