I was really, really bored, and just started thinking about ideas for MMORPGs. Here are a few I think have some potential.

1. Harry Potter. This could go one of two ways.

You could be a student in Hogwarts and the surrounding areas (you could somehow work in Diagon Alley too). Between Hogwarts, Hogsmeades (spelling?), Diagon Alley, the Forbidden Forest, etc. there would easily be enough room to create a relatively large game world. You would start with a generic character and based on which school courses you take determine what cl/ass of character you were. You could be great at making potions, or transfiguration, or whatever. You would fight other students in duels, creatures in the forbidden forest, and have boss fights like the basilisk or giant spider thing lol.

Or, you could be an adult auror and use the whole adult wizarding world. The Ministry of Magic, Diagon Alley again, whatever, and the wilderness. You would fight creatures and death eaters, etc.

2. Starcraft... do I have to explain? It worked with Warcraft lol.

3. A street basketball game. WAIT, before you scoff, it could work! You would create a baller (different cl/asses=different positions) and travel around, levelling up to get better. Clothing could act as stat changing equipment. Then instead of a simple point-click interface (Click click, fireball, hotkey-a, attack...) for the actual action, you could actually play games against computer AI and real players (PvP). By partying up with people you gain access to full matches (like 5 on 5 or 3 on 3) instead of simple 1 on 1, and would receive more experience or cash or whatever for it to compensate for the fact that it won't just be YOU handling the ball. It obviously wouldn't be as in depth and massive as some of the traditional MMORPGs, but it would be an interesting diversion from the norm.

4. Lord of the Rings. Again, I don't think an explanation is really needed. This is probably the most perfect of all of these. Choose a cl/ass( elf, orc, hobbit, dwarf, or various subcategories of them), explore Middle Earth, fight all the various creatures Tolkien generously created for us... it's basically already an MMORPG waiting to be made.

What about you? Any gem ideas waiting to be used?

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - I know there was already a Star Wars MMO but we need A Star Wars MMO during the Knights of the Old Republic Era. Bioware said the main reason they made up a history before the movies was so they could have a reason there were so many Jedi. It could take place after KOTOR 2 when the Jedi were recovering. (Or better yet, scuff K2 and said this is what RELALY happened after.) And make it based on Jedis. It cannot however be published and maintained by SOE. Those guys are jerks.

WWE: SmackDown! vs RAW: I said it before and I'll say it again, this needs a online based spin off. Making your own Wrestlers and building up your skills and competing with hundreds of other players for titles. But at the same time your brand is also working together because you need to earn your brand ratings to compete with the players of the other brand.

>.> I meant the LOTR one to be a joke ("waiting to be made") but I forgot to put a smiley or something signalling sarcasm.

No more MMO's. I'm tired of some of my favorite franchises being turned into MMO's simply because they appear to be the most profitable genre.

I'm not really sure it would be a good MMO, but a large online Resident Evil game would be pimp, throw 50 or so people on a server to play for a few hours with Resident Evil style gameplay, people turning into zombies bah...if only...I can only dream.

And LotRO is actually a really good MMO, despite not having unique features. Lore actually goes a long way (as well a good community). They need to do a Star Wars MMO remake. NOT A KOTOR MMO! Seriously, if it was a KotOR MMO, it's going to do two things that made SWG's NGE really bad: 1) Everyone's going to be a Jedi, or Dark Jedi/Sith (if they're doing it during the Jedi Civil War with Revan). 2) If you're neither, you're going to be a Bounty Hunter/Mandalorian. No freakin' way was that cool. What made SWG neat was that it encouraged you to explore niche careers in the Star Wars universe. If you became a Jedi, it was a big feat. The downside to that was that Darth Vader would jump out from behind every corner to take you down. After three "deaths" as a Jedi, it was perma-death, and you'd have to forfeit your path as a Jedi. Apart from a Star Wars MMO, they should make a Pokemon one, and a Harry Potter one. Both of those would be pretty neat. I can see a Harry Potter one being made after the movies have been completed. Hopefully it's different, considering the institutional nature of the source material.

The harry potter idea sounds pretty cool, the only problem would be creating a valid world to explore and conquer. Ideally I would love to see a MMORPG based on "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George R R Martin, similar to the upcoming Dragon's Age by Bioware. I'll take Everquest III though.
