[QUOTE="Method214"][QUOTE="mitu123"] I want you to try BF3 on that.

mitu123

I have, i get 60fps on medium.

That was the beta, wait for the full version.

The full version will most likely run better, so i could even run it on high at maybe 30-40 fps, which will be good imo.

Shouldn't this be on the PC hardware forum?

Anyways, that seems surprisingly higher than expected. What gives?

commonfate

Beats me, but the cpu is the only thing that's demanding, even a graphics card from 2006 can run it.

High recommends a GTX 560 ti or Radeon 6950 or better though.

Dont be silly, macbook pros like most laptops get ridiculously hot, it would probably overheat. Also remember that macbook pro screens are lower resolution than gaming monitors i think the starting 15" is 1440x900

It was $2.5k. But its worth it, hell Windows even runs better on a mac, when i boot it up to run games, it runs smooth and fluid. Plus macs have a good resale value, i'll be able to sell it when the next MBP comes out for nearly what i paid for it, you cant do that with a custom built pc.

So in actuality, it would be you spending around $3K for a Mac every few months?

I spent $2.5k for my MBP this year, when i sell it next year, i'll get around $2.2k for it. I spend $300 on an upgrade. When intel ivy bridge macbooks hit next year, their in built gpus will be able to run games, so i can buy the cheaper 15" MBP.

Yep its 1440x900p, so i'll be able to run the game fine, the lower res helps, plus it still looks great.

There is still the heat issue and the fact that for 2500k a custom gaming rig could run it far better.

The lower end MBP 15" is $2k, i'll save the $200, thanks to ivy bridges in built gpu, i wont need a dedicated gpu to run games.

When i played the BF3 Beta, my MBP 15" didnt over heat. The the Mobile i7 quads in the MBP, 15" are about as good as the desktop 2500k.

Apple designs their products really well, I have a Macbook for iphone deving and kinda like it. PC gaming is best done on a self-built box though. Both monetarily and for performance. Good luck gaming on APU ... lol. They're as good as consoles ... which isn't saying much.

Seriously? I enjoy my MBP very much but I am not that delusional. And Macbooks like all laptops are notorious for getting hot while running graphics intensive tasks, so it might not overheat but it will get very hot

Good luck on selling your Macbook for 2.2k, honestly, good luck. I think the summation of this thread is pretty simply though, you can kick and scream all you want, but for the price you paid you could have gotten a PC that played games much better. Hell, you could have gotten an amazing top of the line gaming PC for $1000-$1200, built for you, no hassle and a decent high quality $1000 HP laptop. You could have bought an amazing gaming PC, all the current gen Consoles and if prudent even a netbook for Class.

..

Your mac will run games sure, but for the money you spent, if gaming was at all important to, (you as being on this forum proves it is) you could have better distributed it. This is coming from someone who bought a Macbook pro back when I was in Uni.

edit: For broken quote

PC specs for one of this years it games, MW3.

http://www.bluesnews.com/s/126784/modern-warfare-3-pc-details-minimum-specs

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
OS: Windows® XP / Windows Vista® / Windows® 7
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom™ X38750 processor or better
Memory: 16 GB free hard drive space / 2GB RAM
Video Card: Shader 3.0 or better 256 MB NVIDIA®GeForce™ 8600GT / ATI® Radeon™ X1950 or better
Sound Card: DirectX® 9.0C or later

This is what i dont get about PC gamers, you overkill on hardware, wasting tons of money, when you could spend less, or even buy an iMac or Macbook Pro, and install windows so you can play games, and whenever your not playing games, run OSX.
All these past PC games haven't been nothing to wow at either.

Method214

Well for crappy pure console ports thats weak. But try and get that computer to play real games like The Witcher 2, Battlefield 3, and proper versions of other quality games. Bioware even pumped up Dragon Age II to take advantage of hardware even though it was based on consoles and would murder those PC specs on Very High @ 1080p with 4x aa that you listed. Rocksteady is doing the same with Batman AC as well. The Witcher 2 is the most beutiful game I have ever seen and having it run at 1080p is mind blowing which proves you probobly don't even know what it is since no game has inpressed you. And like I mentioned Dragon Age II looks heads and tails better on PC than on console. Oh yeah, and did I mention those run at a silky smooth 60 fps, DA II on 360 can hardly keep up 30 fps at 720p choking half the time lol.

Just because Activision is the laziest money grubbing company doesn't mean they all are.

Yeah I doubt he would get close to 2.2K considering that ivy bridge update is most likely going to be a full update changing the macbook pro's to look more like the MBA. And you are right that for gaming a MBP is not worth it, there are other reasons they are worth it to some people but not that

The best way to go if you want to game and have a notebook for 1000$ is to buy a netbook and spend the 700$ on a gaming desktop. 700$ goes a long way these days.

Are we even discussing that Macs that can game on the same level as PCs? ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. Macs are overpriced pieces of trash that were only used by hipsters a few years back and show-offs now. Seriously. You can get a decent PC that will max all modern games for more or less 800 euro. That's not even half for what you will be dishing out for a pos Mac, that will also have much inferior components too. Seriously?

On topic: Did anyone expect high requirements for a game using an 11 year old engine? Funny conincidence, the majority of the people that will be buying this game are around the same age as the engine the game is running on!

I also like how the TC say we are wasting our money on custom built PCs even though they are cheaper and more powerful than a Mac built for games unlike a Mac.

Calvin079, i have an AMD 6750 1GB + a 2.2Ghz quad core i7, its more than enough, i run blops and bc2 fine.Method214

heh...looks like i spent less on f****** alienware and got better stuff >.> and yes a mobility 5850 is more powerful than a mobility 6750(just a rebranded 5750 like most of the 6--- series cards are) and there are only a couple of games that i cant max...ooo and idc about macosx...hence why i got win7...btw...it still cost less including the os...

and yeah while you dont need a super computer to run the game on min settings or heck even max settings...we are talking about a game that looked bad by fps standards in 08...
