Nintendo has changed the design of a character (class?) from a Native American, into a typical cowboy character who seems to be wearing the national flag on her bras, because let's face it we wouldn't recognize that she's American with just the dumb stereotypical hat. My personal view is that Nintendo are being extremely idiotic, and that Native Americans deserve to be a part of videogames. Not every character needs to be an American character.

Not like that Native American outfit portrays them any better.

That's looks worse than what I see out of the Chang family (Michelle and Julia) in a Tekken game.

I look forward to Nintendo plebs pretending this is an America thing because politically correct liberal ass america (which has merit, in other conversations about this type of stuff), and not 100% a Nintendo thing, which it clearly is. Fucking dolts.

How is this Nintendo again? Also this is just normal localization, they do it all the time. Probably didnt want to offend Mexico and other Spanish places.

Describe "Native American". 99% of Americans don´t know how a "native american" looks or should look like.

@mesome713: Read the OP, Nintendo is the publisher.

@raugutcon: Google it.

I like both outfits. Shame that they felt the need to put in the extra work. Don't understand why.

They did demonize Native Americans ages ago, I didn't know that this is still a thing.

Show me your source of Nintendo handling the localization though. Cause Square Enix and Silicon Studio does this all the time, this is nothing new.

Also i dont really see nothing wrong with the changes, again, im guessing this is to not offend Mexico and South America, this is a Spanish Store. Maybe they dont like this stuff, i have no clue about their openness.

I dunno. Maybe they just did it because they thought we'd like a cowboy outfit more. Again they both look cool.

I don't really know anything about Native Americans. Apparently they are being mistreated, an ongoing thing? Perhaps depending on who you ask. Again I don't know the details. So I can see them being very sensitive to anything that is based on Native American cultures. I didn't know it was an ongoing thing (I don't live anywhere near) but then it makes a lot more sense. A shame, because I always really enjoyed the fake Native American costumes and characters. Kind of like the fairytale versions of pirates, and princes, and knights, and ninja's can be very cool even though they're nothing like the real thing.

Hm maybe that's why we don't see many indian tribe type settings in games. I kind of had a game like that in mind. It's a shame when the real world interferes with video games. When you guys grow up, if ever, you better fix this world, so that we can have games like that without hurting people.

You have no idea how easily offended North American aboriginals are these days.

They clearly did this to avoid lawsuits.

I don't blame them in the slightest.

@mesome713: You are right, and wrong at the same time. Square shows more skin on Sony versions of their games, but they do cover up characters on Nintendo systems. But this is a completely new thing, where the character is changing races. Again, this is a Nintendo published game on a Nintendo system. They set the rules. The one doing the localization is only changing things to fit "Nintendo's image." I don't say this because I'm against Nintendo, some of the changes in other games were necessary, Xenoblade X is an example. But this one isn't.

@KungfuKitten: I have the same thinking of Native Americans as well, they are exotic to me. Just like the vikings.

What im saying is, Nintendo cant make Square Enix change their game. They can ask them, but just cause Nintendo is publishing doesnt necessarily mean they are making the changes. Sqaure Enix and Silicon Studio could still be behind this. Maybe they are changing it cause they are scared their game wont sell good.

I think only reason Nintendo is publishing it, is cause Square Enix said they didnt want to with all their other games coming in 2016. Would seem Square Enix has no faith in the game.

@mesome713: I disagree, and I think Nintendo has strong pull on what makes it into what they publish. Also, Square lets others publish their own games. Tomb Raider being published by MS is an example. Heck, even Bravely Default doesn't have its own website, but a part of Nintendo's.

I edited the comment since you edited, but I don't think this is something we can look into. If you did look, you're gonna see a lot of Nintendo hate. I did, and the only video with relation was heavy slander on Nintendo. The video narrator was infuriated Nintendo dresses underage girls properly. They talked about how they are against the principle of dressing underage girls, it was utterly ridiculous.

It's really either Square, or Nintendo. I believe it's the latter, you disagree and think it's the former. Neither is gonna come out and say "it's me, guys."

@ultimateimp: I understand the people against the censoring of the underage girls. I accept their criticism, and when well thought out, they have a point, but they also have to understand that sometimes we have to make sacrifices for the games we love.

Nintendo doesnt do this stuff because they want or have to, they do it because they love these games so much, they want as many as possible to enjoy them.

We're going somewhere else now, but whatever. What I saw about Xenoblade boiled down to people wanting to see a child dressing like a prostitute, or the pretentious morons who claimed to be against dressing children respectably by "principle." I completely disagree, dressing little girls as prostitutes while fighting huge monsters, or any of the weird fetishes that Japanese products are filled with. Just thinking about it makes me feel uncomfortable.

Games should appeal to all genders, when a game resorts to having this weird shit to appeal to sexually frustrated teenagers then they most likely are crap. A game, or story that is well written and well designed will appeal to all genders, and ages. Look at Mario games, they're rated E. But he appeals to people who are as old as I am. Super Mario 3D World is one of the top 5 games of this generation so far.

This bullshit thinking of "why do I buy games that don't have boobs, when I can buy one that has them?" is just that, bullshit.

@ultimateimp: Alright, it would seem this could still be Square Enix, i have no proof, but i do have proof that Square Enix handled the localization of Bravely Default even though Nintendo published it.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/01/03/bravely-default-censored-for-western-release

Says that it was the developers decision to make the changes for their game.

On the kids wearing sexy cloths, im not sure mate, were i live in Florida, a 15 year old can wear a thong bikini and go topless in public. It all depends on what is acceptable where you live.

Would i let my 15 year old wear cloths like that? No, but that doesnt mean others cant.

@mesome713: From the source of that article, click here. That's just poor reporting from IGN, the source doesn't say if it's Nintendo or Square definitively.

"Pretty minimal. It's not something I would get upset about, and I don't think it affects the story at all either; but it doesn't look lewd or obscene enough to warrant any censorship, let alone get an M-rating (if that's what Nintendo or Square feared)."

"While this doesn't look like a big deal, it can become a popular trend for modern JRPGs published by Nintendo."

"It's unclear if the NA version will get the same treatment as Europe's, but I hope knowing this can allow some noise to let Nintendo or Square know how we feel, and express it all at Miiverse or Club Nintendo."

@ultimateimp: Its says it in the very first sentence. Im sure Sqaure Enix would have corrected them if it wasnt the case.

"Square Enix has censored parts of the Western release of Bravely Default."

Whether Nintendo asked them to or not, who knows. But Square Enix does this all the time. So i would think this was all them.

Click on the link I gave, it's the source. IGN pulled that sentence out of their ass, the source doesn't say it's Square Enix definitively.

Native Americans don't look like Native Americans, many carry tribal IDs saying they're like 82% white and 18% from whatever tribe. This change is by all means as authentic as can be, so don't go painting a picture Nintendo of playing it PC to pander to the SJW crowd.

To be fair, this is a Japanese were talking about, not the western. What I'm saying is, Japan doesn't know much about Native Americans and since this isn't Nintendo's doing, it's Square Enix/Silicon Studio doing the changes mainly because they don't know what Native Americans look like and hardly anyone probably here in the U.S knows ether. Now western developers on the other hand, knows how and what Native Americans should be in games. Red Dead Redemption is a good example, it had Natives in it, Killer Instinct character Thunder is Native American and from those 2 games I mention, they were done by western developers, not Japan. Square Enix and Silicon Studio probably didn't want to get any back flashed if they did it wrong and I see nothing wrong with this changes.

Fun fact:
You would think the Tomahawk would use axes or at the very least a bow, but no, they use guns. On top of that, a lot of their skill names are related to missiles. Furthermore, the person who grants access to the class is named Amy Matchlock.

Hell if I know why SE decided to use Native Americans in the JP version, but we're getting cowboys. It makes more fucking sense and avoids a potential PR disaster in the process. Nothing to be mad about.

It's hilarious that you say this, someone in this thread linked to an article how some white racist people are upset that an American Football team is paying tribute to Native Americans, and those white people are quite mad that they are, that Nintendo should listen to that same crowd. That team, and Nintendo don't need to listen to those racist bunch, period.

Also, "SJW" is a stupid term.

And it should be noted that most Native Americans adapted to Cowboys so that that too is nothing of value was lost. Even Assassin's Creed 3 did it right.

My mom and me were watching TV and we came across a child beauty pageant in the USA and we were just shocked at how they treated these children and what they considered 'beauty' was eerie. The mothers were very serious and competitive, no room to care for how their children were really feeling or doing. It was probably edited in a way to make it more shocking and it was probably an extreme version of that, but man. I can't imagine those children growing up to be healthy after the treatment they got from their very competitive mothers. That was horrifying. And real.

What on Earth are you talking about?

"White racist people" angry about "being paid tribute to"

Someone over at either SE or Nintendo's American branch would hopefully be aware of why it would be a bad idea to leave things as-is. Hell, I'm hoping some people would realize why the Tomahawk class was poorly thought-out from the beginning with the whole using guns as their primary thing.

Nintendo's not listening to racists when they make moves like this, they're listening to their own sensibility.

You have no idea how easily offended North American aboriginals are these days.

They clearly did this to avoid lawsuits.

I don't blame them in the slightest.

They will go to cort for this thing?

Now i understand why no Wild Arms have been made.
