Yes, GTA in general is hard core... Because it's rated M and the fact that not many people finish them.

That's the requirements for a hardcore game? M rated and, for any reason, people don't finish it (including the possibility that it's too bad to finish)? The whole "hardcore" and "casual" gamers crap gets more ridiculous every day. That's the requirements for a hardcore game? Nah, it's real.
I don't see any grand mothers wanting to play this game or any parents letting their children play this. I can see men playing this. The ones that like gruesome drug soaked games. Kinda like me :P
while the DS is owned by the women and adults that said it should be banned last gen.Willy105no? The DS is owned by everyone. Gamers, casuals, moms, whatever.
Such a great title too. U also got to put into consideration that a good portion of DS owners are children. They should just make a PS3/360/PC version.

[QUOTE="manicfoot"]
For some reason it seems like a lot of GTA fans aren't buying it just because its 2D. In my group of gamers I'm the only one thats bought it and we're all big GTA fans. When I asked my friends why they're not interested in it they said stuff like "it feels like a step back" and "it was scaled down and gimped to run on DS." I much prefer GTA:CW to the PSP GTA's because it has a unique identity. Liberty/Vice City Stories were cool in their own way but they were exactly the same as the PS2 games and didn't feel fresh.
JLF1
That's the reason why I and a lot of my friends didn't buy it.
It is a step back. GTAIV was a living and breathing city, GTA:CW is not. I am well aware that it has a lot of the stuff GTAIV has but that doesn't change the fact that the game isn't the same experience as it's big brother. I don't play GTA game to enjoy the bad story the repetitive missions or the buggy AI. I enjoy GTA games for the Sandbox feel of driving around in a living city. That is something that the DS can not handle.
I'm not saying the game is bad because frankly the reviews state the opposite, it's a superb game. It's just not the game I want to play on the DS or the game I want GTA to be. It would be like having a 2D Gears game on the DS like Contra. It could be a kick-ass game and I would probably buy it but it would not be the game that most Gears fans want.
Well, obviously the DS version isn't going to be up to par with a game running on the PS3 and 360, but the Liberty City in Chinatown Wars is a "living, breathing city." Pedestrians have their own unique routines; you can follow them down the street and watch them talk to each other, hail cabs, buy food from street venders, or get in fights. The ambient noises are fantastic, from the general buzz of traffic to the scattered one-liners from the pedestrians. The game even uses day & night and alternating weather cycles. I was a little concerned myself that CW would be scaled-back and dumbed-down, but I found myself relieved and amazed at how much like the console GTA games Chinatown Wars is (except for the fine details, like buying clothes & what-not).
You shouldn't write this game off just because it's on the DS. It's certainly more robust than the original GTA games.
Walking around in Middle School with a PSP does in fact make you popular and cool. Willy105haha. Times really have changed. :P
I doubt Rockstar was expecting GTAIV numbers here. It would be nice to hear their reaction to the sales so far so that we can stop guessing.

Old-school ways still work (and always will) :PThe reason its not selling well is because it wasn't advertised well, so a lot of people that would of bought it didn't know it was even out. I was talking to some friends the other day who are fans of grand theft auto and mentioned the game and they didn't even know the game existed, so they went out and got it that day XD.Mike885
that is true for a gta game the advertising has been a shambles compared to gta4 and lost and the damned.
The one that sold more then 3 million? Yeah sure :|.guys its selling nearly at the same rate the second GTA on PSP sold

The thing is, this is one of those times were graphics matter for me. GTAIV looked a felt like a real city. GTA:CW will not no matter what is actually in it and graphics is a huge part of it. You can call me a graphics whore if you want but that won't chance me mind. It's not scaled down in what you can do but it is scaled down in what you can see.

I know it sounds silly, but you really don't see teenagers playing DSs in public. Back when I was in highschool, I saw people with PSPs all the time but I never saw anyone with a DS. It doesn't mean they didn't own one, they just didn't play it in public.
[QUOTE="manicfoot"]Um...you do know they came out on the PSP first. Only later did they jump to the PS2. You see, the PSP games are remakes of the PS2 games. hm... it sold very little the first month... thats true, but on the bright side, its drop-off rate was tiny.
most games have a big drop-off from their first month.
examples:
RE5 sold almost 1 million units the first month on the 360 alone, last month (its 2nd month) it sold less than 200k
Pokeman plat sold 805k units in march, but only 430k in april

IANAE, but I suspect the "Mario effect" or something of the like. Nothing on the PSP could be construed as being overly cute or kid-oriented, whereas with the DS...it's got a bit of a stigma to it, I think. Things with a negative image make you stick out more than something with a positive image makes you look cool (IOW, you have to work to be cool; whereas you can become a geek without even trying).http://kotaku.com/5259924/grand-theft-auto-chinatown-wars-second-month-sales-drop-in-npd+pds

Despite owning a DS, I really see no compelling reason to buy this game.
It seems pretty well made so it would be a shame for it to flop, but I doubt Rockstar are gritting their teeth over it having made enough money on GTAIV to write off the national debt of every county in sub-Saharan Africa.
You're doing yourself a disservice. A game based on the Drug dealing aspect alone is worth $30. This game is the best value currently on the DSDespite owning a DS, I really see no compelling reason to buy this game.
