The screens that were going around yesterday were pretty small. There are a few extra screens in the latest batch & they are big enough to show off just how beautiful this game is going to look. Originally I commented that the game doesn't look much better than the first.... I repent. There's more detail in EVERYTHING... the environment AND character models... and the color pallette is gorgeous! New Uncharted 2 Screens...

The game looks nothing like Gears in art style or design... the combat & story definitely do not have a Gears feel... the only thing the two games share is a cover system, so you're pretty far off base.

That would make it interesting to say the least... not sure how they would pull that off w/o it seeming shallow though. The first game was a AAA title w/o online but some online co-op would definitely fit the game nicely.

it would be awesome, throw in some cool hand to hand action along with solid gunplay, jumping and sliding into cover with a buddy while being pinned. Thats badass right there.

Looking fantastic. They probably won't incorporate any form of multiplayer, well I suppose it all depends on the story.

Lol, admittedly not... but you left yourself wide open for that one. Anyway, the graphics look gorgeous... if there's nothing special there, it's going to be hard to find anything special this gen. I wish more games would quit going for photorealism & create their own unique art style... b/c Uncharted 2 is already looking like a thing of beauty. I wonder when we can expect a release date announcement, and whether or not the game will look even better when that date rolls around...

The animations in the original Uncharted : Drake's Fortune are stunning. If they can implement some form of animation system when moving from cover to cover, and sliding along the ground and across terrain, along the lines of the dropped PS3 exclusive project, Eight Days, then we'd have one of the smoothest animations in videogame history.

Almost finished the first game. Maybe I'll finish it all tonight. Uncharted 2 doesn't seem to be leaps and bounds over the original game in terms of graphics, but that's okay since the first is still a stunner anyway. I just hope they tighten up the gameplay. Trying to fight heaps of henchmen that don't ever seem to die was really a pain in the butt.

HA! At any rate, looks better than Gears 1.2! Uncharted looked great but the environments did not pack anything near that level of detail in them. The textures, lighting, and art all look phenomenal. The detail on the char models are improved as well but that is a much less noticeable improvement.

Yea, the gameplay improvements are the ones I'm most interested in... my copy of GI hasn't arrived yet but from what I've read online, they've tuned up the melee combat quite a bit, and improved the cover system & animations... haven't read any changes made to weapon controls but those were pretty great in the first one anyway. I'm hoping for more complex puzzles... that and a new setting would be good enough for me, gfx aside.

This is just part one of the evolution of the franchise into what it's always wanted to be. In the next phase, Uncharted 3, Drake grows huge muscles, wears a bandana, and fights off aliens trying to destroy the human race.

From what I see in these scans, RE5 still looks better. Not to take anything away from Uncharted 2, because it still looks nice, but just not on the same level as RE5, methinks. Then again, Killzone 2 has 'em all beat.

All with his bare hands, and I love the snow and city levels. Its cool in the snow pic where he's hanging from the cable car or whatever, his hand is bloody, looks like he got shot and its bleeding and he put his hand there sweet.

You get a kick out of it? Anyway, two things: 1) Don't deny Uncharted was heavily influenced by Gears of War. I'm no big fan of Gears of War, but it's undeniable that the streamlined version it uses has had its effects since 2006. (GTAIV, upcoming Killzone 2). Unless you want to explain to me how Kill.Switch, Time Crisis or whatever directly influenced these "cover-system" titles without the help from Gears of War, be my guest. It'd be as futile as arguing that the original Blade movie had inspired slow-motion bullet time sequences instead of the Matrix, however. 2) The original guy quoted wasn't talking about the game design. He was talking about how murky brown these Uncharted 2 screens look, which is reminiscent of the Gears of War series. One would most likely come to that conclusion because: a) The original Uncharted was generally bright and colourful b) It's so easy to compare the two series, and incidentally Gears uses the colour palette shown in these screens.

you are going against a ps3 exclusive here, RE5 has no chance beating Uncharted2 in the graphics department, zero chance that is.

I don't think they'd have significantly more platforming elements, because from what I've read, they don't want to enter Tomb Raider territory. Both Naughty Dog and Crystal Dynamics seem to really respect each other's games, with one being more action-oriented, and the other being more puzzle-oriented. They both seem to like it that way. I know how you feel though. I love the Tomb Raider games and I love adventure games, so it would be cool to see more puzzle solving/platforming elements. I just wouldn't get my hopes up. I think for the most part the A.I and combat was good. It's just that the first title had an incredible amount of guys in any one instance, and you had to unload one and a half clips into them with an assault rifle unless you get them in the head. I'm all for headshots and all, but to punish the player for not getting one in is really unfair. You're trying to take down a laser sniper from afar and then there's about five guys already flanking you. Kudos to Naughty Dog for realizing you'd probably get owned if you're trying to be a one-man-army, but it's really not fun. Still, if they can truly iron out all the problems, it could definitely be my favourite title on the PS3. I have a bias towards exclusives, so though Prince of Persia and Tomb Raider reign in my eyes, I would be proud to own another title concerning Nate Drake. If the first didn't have those irritating issues, it'd be my favourite title right now. Heavenly Sword is my current favourite though.

Consider it denied. Ironically, there's more evidence that Gears of War 2's cover system was inspired by the first Uncharted's cover system.

I don't understand your argument. Because the mechanics of the cover systems in games pre-Gears's' were so different, that's supposed to mean their implementation of it was totally original and therefore any 'take cover and shoot' games thereafter are inspired by Gears? I don't follow that logic. Gears was already in development when Gears was released. I sincerely doubt they added something so crucial to Uncharted's gameplay simply for the sake of emulating Gears. [QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"]2) The original guy quoted wasn't talking about the game design. That's debatable. But if that's what he meant then whatever.

Yeah didn't you know that Nate was Chuck Norris in disguise, ;) and while being Chuck Norris I hope that Nate has some new tricks up his sleeve in the hand to hand combat, maybe implementing it more so into the game so it's satisfying and necessary compared to the first.

The last game had awesome animations while jumping over cover and flinching while being shot at. Hopefully they add upon the animations and the gameplay, cause even though you can tell they are there, the graphics aren't that much of an improvement from the first.

But even with just the small upgrade in graphics it still looks like it could beat most if not all of the games put out in 2008 in that department. So if the Gameplay is improved upon as I said, then this would definitely be a AAA non the less a 2009 Game of the Year contender for sure.

First of all, Kill.Switch has always been credited for the cover system... even when Gears came out. Only noobs credit Gears for the cover system. Secondly, maybe something's wrong with your screen??? Because these screens pack A LOT more color than either of the Gears games... The environments are alive with color and detail in a way that neither of the Gears games have showcased. Murky? Lol, yea right.

A) You've played the final game? B) you viewed HD/HQ screens to tell? C) never ever judge a game by early screens and small screens. No wonder your always picked on. And to state my opinion, game looks great..but its hard to tell from THOSE screens.

I would like to state that Gears 2 was influenced by Uncharted, from the bullet dodge reactions, destructible cover. Cliffy has mentioned uncharted in some of his gears 2 interviews, seeing how they're similar games..they learn of one another.

From what I see in these scans, RE5 still looks better. Not to take anything away from Uncharted 2, because it still looks nice, but just not on the same level as RE5, methinks. Then again, Killzone 2 has 'em all beat.

Lol, dude... RE5 does not look better than this. RE5 is so reminiscent of MGS4 it's not even funny. That's not a bad thing though... obviously means the game will look great.

[QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"][QUOTE="Sgt_Hale"][QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"]Almost finished the first game.

I was happy with the first one and the onslaught of enemies... I found the challenge fun. And the lead dev of the first game said that she wanted more complex puzzles. Exactly what that'll translate to, who knows... but I'm eager to find out.

untill we see proper Uncharted 2 screens and HD ones....RE5 is king. Uncharted 2 will look amazing, but Saying RE5 won't look as good as uncharted just sounds silly.

Hmm, finally we can agree, Eyezonmii. :P Feels good. :D

Anyways, RE5 is getting trashed because it's not exclusive, and fanboys from both sides want to be able to 1UP each other with "mine is better than yours". And it's not as fun for them, and they can't brag, if it's multiplat.

Consider it denied. Ironically, there's more evidence that Gears of War 2's cover system was inspired by the first Uncharted's cover system.Pariah_001

Sorry, I don't consider it denied. I just consider it completely idiotic. I'm not asking for evidence. All I ask for is a little common sense. A little bit of unbiased discussion. You can quote Nietzsche and other schools of philosophy, but when the PS3's...... "dignity" is involved (Jeez I can't believe I said that), it's like you close your ears, shout at the top of your lungs and pretend no other argument exists. Why some knowledgeable people like to drown themselves in petty closed-mindedness, it really confuses me. Even Voltaire wasn't so stupid as to outright deny Catholic doctrine simply because of the corrupted state of French-Catholic hierarchy.

As for Gears of War 2? Hey watch this. It could be quite enlightening:

I don't know much about Gears of War 2, and quite frankly I don't care. But I wouldn't put it past the idea that it may have been influenced by Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. A quick trip to Google states that Cliff B himself stated Gears 2 was a little inspired by Uncharted, and that he likes the title.

Should I start acting like a rabid lemming right now and pass that off as nothing really simple? Or should I be an open-minded person and say to myself, "Hey, it's normal. Influence is a part of the creative process."

I sincerely doubt they added something so crucial to Uncharted's gameplay simply for the sake of emulating Gears.Pariah_001

No. You've got me wrong. The entertainment industry works like this:

If someone does something right and makes it popular, everyone else will soon follow. If you really want I can give you detailed explanations from written literature, music, and film. Take my word for it, then you'd have to agree that the video game industry works the exact same way.

Kill.switch wasn't critically acclaimed nor commercially successful. As for Time Crisis: you're going to tell me that after over a decade of being a popular arcade title (has decreased in popularity since last generation), Naughty Dog decided to finally get inspiration from the series and amazingly ended up with a system which was strikingly similar to Gears of War?

So there are two trains of thought here:

- Uncharted, coming out a year after Gears of War, was inspired by its slick combat mechanic and swiftly applied it to the game.

- Uncharted, coming out a year after Gears of War, was inspired by the obscure kill.switch and the Time Crisis series of "cover" gameplay, and ended up with something achingly similar to Gears of War.

That's debatable. But if that's what he meant then whatever.FrozenLiquid

Not really, because if he did want to call Uncharted a rip then he forgot to mention Tomb Raider and suspisciously added "Batman". What, Uncharted ripped a Batman game? Riiiiiggghhttt.

---

I know why you're doing this but, I still have to say, I don't know why you're doing this.

I like Uncharted waaaayyy better than Gears of War. I think it has more likeable characters, a much more entertaining story, better visuals, and it has non-combat game mechanics.

Still, I'm not going to bet my life on the fact that it wasn't inspired by Gears. I'd bet my future daughter that it was, however.

And I'll love my daughter, very, very much.

You really liked it? I agree with GameSpot on the resilient enemies and the overwhelming number, because it was just incredibly unfair. They're like tanks, but two weak pistol bullets and Nate's on the verge of death. I think I have a decent trigger finger, but some of those instances I was playing for the umpteenth time. I dare not play the game on harder difficulties. But that's awesome that they're gonna add more complex puzzles. Makes me anticipate the game even more.
